Ken Block couldn’t believe it. The mild-mannered Republican elections expert had seen a lot of things in his brief work as a consultant for former President Donald Trump’s campaign, after he was hired in late 2020 to find proof of mass election fraud that could stand up in court. This, however, was special.
A group of pro-Trump activists in Wisconsin were convinced they had found 740,070 cases of Wisconsin voters who voted twice — or around 22 percent of all votes cast in the state that year. The claim, which would have...

When former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, he hired Ken Block’s data mining firm to try and find evidence to back up the wild allegations Trump and his campaign were making about voter fraud. Instead, Block found none, and now his work could be used to help prosecute Trump.
“I’ve received subpoenas from both Jack Smith’s federal investigation into potential crimes related to Jan. 6 and also Fani Willis’ investigation of potential election crimes committed in Georgia,” Block told Rolling Stone in an interview. “All of my...

This was a five-day cruise from Miami through the Caribbean headlined by veteran acts like Switchfoot and Sister Hazel, and they were a bunch of college students who’d never played anything bigger than a basement house party. “We were about to write it off before we actually realized it was a real thing,” says Mom Rock singer-guitarist Curtis Heimburger. “We had no idea how we got asked.

Roku is officially dropping the Quibi name.
Roku announced that the content from its January acquisition of Quibi — the short-lived, short-form mobile entertainment startup founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg — will be rebranded as “Roku Originals.” The 75-plus original shows from Quibi will be available to watch for free on the ad-supported Roku Channel starting sometime this year, the company has said.
Roku Originals also will be the brand name for future original programming for The Roku Channel, which is currently available in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. The company said it will provide additional details next month about the launch of Roku Originals.

Roku snapped up the rights to the majority of Quibi’s multimillion-dollar portfolio original programming — more than 75 shows in all — and will make them available free to stream in 2021 on the Roku Channel.
Following Quibi’s decision last October to shut down after failing to attract a sustainable base of subscribers, Roku acquired Quibi Holdings LLC, the company that holds all of Quibi’s content distribution rights.
Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed. A source familiar with the agreement said Roku is paying “significantly” less than $100 million for the Quibi library, confirming an earlier Wall Street Journal report. Rob Holmes, Roku’s VP of programming, said in an interview, “We do think this deal represents a great value.”
“Fundamentally, we think that Quibi has created great, high-quality content,” Holmes told Variety. “It’s a great value proposition for our users… We’re pivoting from Quibi’s SVOD model to an ad-supported model,...

A new Vulture report has again trained a spotlight on fledgling streaming service Quibi, which turned three months old today, marking the conclusion of its 90-day free trial window.
The piece paints a picture of an uber-confident company prior to launch, in which founder Jeffrey Katzenberg was offering to pay producers a 20% premium over the costs of their shows. Despite snagging big names, however, Quibi has failed to drum up any breakthrough hits, and has even garnered viral ridicule on occasion -- namely for an unintentionally hilarious scene from the Sam Raimi horror short The Golden Arm, in which celebrated actress Rachel Brosnahan can be seeing pining over her prosthetic arm (below).
While some shows have received positive reviews, including the Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz-starring action-thriller Most Dangerous Game, others have already been given the axe, including Frat Boy Genius (a biopic inspired by Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel...

Quibi – allegedly pronounced “kwibby” – is the latest service to enter the streaming game, and its strategy is unique. The streamer’s mobile-only content is designed to be consumed in small chunks, or “quick bites,” but unlike its competitors such as YouTube, the shows on Quibi have big name stars and production values similar to what you’d find on a major network. Creators Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman are betting that in our modern society of short attention spans there is an audience for well-crafted entertainment that can be watched quickly while on the go. Interested in giving it a try? We’ve got a list of Quibi shows that we’re most excited about.

Update: Quibi has added one more series to be submitted for Emmys it’s Elba Vs Block, to compete in Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Category. Show stars Idris Elba and Ken Block as they go head to head to see who’s best behind the driver’s seat.
Exclusive: Quibi has firmed the list of 19 shows, and the accompanying stars and filmmakers it will submit for the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards. Deadline has the whole list of shows that fall into the short form comedy and drama categories, as well as Short Form Nonfiction/Reality, and Variety series. Quibi launched in April, and has found that a venture meant to generate content designed to be consumed in short bites by people on the go, has been challenged by landing right in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic that has rendered the world to a state of not going anywhere.

Quibi is not moving ahead with a planned series dramatizing the rise of Snapchat and its founder, Evan Spiegel, Variety has learned exclusively.
The project was announced at the SXSW film festival last year by Quibi founder and board chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg. It was to be based on the feature script “Frat Boy Genius” by Elissa Karasik, which was featured on the 2018 Black List.
“We want to tell a story that’s as compelling and interesting about Snapchat and Evan as ‘The Social Network’ was for Facebook,” Katzenberg said at the time.
The news comes just one week after the launch of the mobile-only streaming app, which aims to premium short form content to subscribers in brief chapters, or “quick bites.” Quibi CEO Meg Whitman said earlier on Monday that the app had been downloaded 1.7 million times since launch. The service launched with a 90-day free trial.

Updated: Quibi, the mobile-only streaming service from Jeffrey Katzenberg, said it hit 1.7 million installations within the first week of launch — higher than third-party estimates. According to analysts, the big-budget, short-form video streamer has had a relatively tepid reception in part because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Quibi said Monday that it reached 1.75 million downloads. By contrast, according to research firm Apptopia, the Quibi app had been downloaded and installed 1.15 million times as of Sunday, April 12. The service launched with a 90-day free trial.
Downloads have been fairly evenly split between iOS and Android devices, with about 87% of the installs from the U.S. and 6% from Canada, according to Apptopia data. Quibi’s app is available worldwide but the startup, led by Katzenberg and CEO Meg Whitman, is focusing its marketing and customer-acquisition efforts on North America.

The dustbin of corporate history is littered with product launches that failed due to bad timing — innovations that either came along too soon (the Apple Newton), or alongside a similar one that more successfully captured the public imagination (Betamax losing out to VHS). Quibi is coming. That’s not so much a threat — like it might sound — but instead a warning for your personal Peak TV preparation purposes. The mobile short-form streaming service backed by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman is set to launch on April 6, with episodes of each of its series clocking in at a runtime of under 10 minutes. “Quibi” is an abbreviation for “quick bites,” you see, in case you missed the Super Bowl ad.
After inking approximately a gazillion deals with big-name talent and an unveiling at Sundance, Quibi is set to release approximately 175 series within its first year, 50 of which will be available during the official launch on April 6th, for $5 a month for its ad-supported service and $8 for no ads. And if you’re feeling ambivalent about Quibi the streaming service is offering people a 90-day free trial if you sign up before April 6.

Quibi’s April 6 launch is inching closer, and the mobile short-form streaming service made an aggressive sales pitch Wednesday morning at CES in Las Vegas.
The upcoming platform, created by longtime Hollywood and Silicon Valley power players Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, has raised plenty of eyebrows since its unveiling in 2018, and not just because the streaming service will only work on mobile devices. Episodes of each Quibi series will run under 10 minutes, and the platform, short for “quick bites,” has tapped a dizzying array of high-profile actors, content creators, and major companies to create or invest in the service. Katzenberg and Whitman told CES attendees during a keynote that the service will release roughly 175 series within its first year, which they say would equate to around three hours of new content every day. The service has already attracted $1.4 billion in investments, including from Disney and other studios

Exclusive: Jeffrey Katzenberg’s Quibi has lined up projects with the likes of Steven Spielberg, Steven Soderbergh, Guillermo del Toro and Antoine Fuqua. Now, it is turning its attention to other parts of the world including the UK.
Deadline understands that the short-form service is developing an adaptation of Harriet Tyce’s psychological thriller novel Blood Orange with Bodyguard and Line of Duty producer World Productions. It’s thought that the ITV-owned indie has set a writer and is adapting the book as a twelve-part series consisting of ten episodes.
The novel, which was published earlier this year by Wildfire and Grand Central Publishing, follows Alison Wood, a criminal barrister taking on her first murder case.
Alison has it all. A doting husband, adorable daughter, and a career on the rise – she’s just been given her first murder case to defend. But all is never as it seems.

Idris Elba (Luther) is taking to the road with renowned rally car driver Ken Block in Elba vs. Block, a new car-stunt series for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short-form video platform Quibi.
In Elba vs. Block, the duo go head-to-head as they pit a variety of cars against each other through increasingly outrageous stunts to prove whose car, and which driver is the best.
The series will be shot in London’s Docklands over eight episodes that will feature eight jaw dropping stunts, such as the Wall of Death, the Car Tightrope and the Flaming Obstacle Course.
“Ken is my driving hero… I’ve never worked with a driver as skilled as him so I’m a little intimidated by his talent. I love challenges, I love speed and I’m a ‘wheel man’ so let’s see how this plays out,” said Elba.

Newlyweds, how you doin'? Matt LeBlanc and stunt driver Ken Block appeared to crash a wedding at the famed St. Paul's Cathedral in London Saturday while filming Top Gear around the city. Jerry Seinfeld isn't the only person showing off classic cars on YouTube. Ken Block, the co-founder of DC Shoes and a professional rally car racer, has returned with the seventh installment of his Gymkhana series, in which he stunt-drives his way through Los Angeles in a customized 1965 Ford Mustang. The Gymkhana videos always carry brand partners in tow, and this time, Block's apparel company, Hoonigan, has partnered with Ford and Need for Speed: No Limits, an upcoming installment in the long-running video game franchise. This time around, the video is themed around notable Los Angeles landmarks. Block drives donuts around Randy's Donuts, snakes his way through Chinatown, pays homage to the Oj Simpson chase, and finishes his run with a drive past the Hollywood sign. The most notable feature of La to not be included in "Gymkhana Seven" is the traffic; Block pulls his drifting stunts through carless streets...

What do you get when you cross drift racing with soccer? The answer is "Footkhana", a new sport featured in a branded video starring DC Shoes founder Ken Block and Brazilian footballer Neymar. The Footkhana video pits Block against Neymar in a game of soccer, one in which Neymar dribbles at his feet and Block slamms his car into a soccer ball to make it fly into the net. You would think Block would have a significant advantage, since he can run over the opposition if they get in his way. Nonetheless, the video ends as soccer matches often do--in a draw. The video has already generated nearly two million views, and if the success of previous Gymkhana episodes is any indicator, it will soon score many more of them. 'Footkhana' is hosted by motor oil company Castrol, continuing the extension of the Gymkhana series beyond the DC Shoes channel.

Block’s Gymkhana series with its 200+ million views is a fun thrill ride that causes viewers to utter expletives as they look on in amazement at a man who’s mastered a piece of modern machinery and seemingly makes vehicles move at will in ways you never thought were mechanically possible. The latest online video offering from Volvo Trucks, however, is awesome, in the truest sense of the word. It’s equal parts fear, reverence, admiration, Enya, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
