By the conclusion of the 22nd Food Network South Beach Food & Wine Festival (Sobewff), 450 chefs had participated in 110-plus events attended by more than 60,000 food and beverage industry professionals, foodie fans, fine-dining fanatics, lovers of burgers, tacos and fried chicken, and the culinary-curious masses on the hunt for tasty bites and sips and a Guy Fieri selfie.
The wizard behind this culinary oz in the sand is Lee Brian Schrager, arguably one of the most influential people in Miami’s food scene as the founder of Sobewff and chief communications officer and senior vice president of social responsibility for Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, the largest liquor distributor in the United States.
Every winter, he makes magic happen in the Magic City as the event has transformed into being as much about culinary television, book and endorsement deals and celebrity chef sightings as it is about wine and food.

A Columbia, Missouri man who once appeared on the Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible show has been arrested and charged with murder in a four-year-old cold case.
Jeffrey McWilliams was arrested Tuesday on charges of second degree murder, first degree robbery, and armed criminal action in relation to the murder of Augustus Roberts in December 2017.
The Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible sees host Robert Irvine attempt to turn around failing restaurants in two days. He worked with McWilliams on his McLanks eatery in July 2019, giving the place a makeover that prevented the visit from shutting down.
McLanks serves what it calls “American comfort food.” The restaurant was reportedly vandalized shortly after it appeared on the Food Network.
Reports last June indicated that the show was planning a “revisit” episode to guide its reopening after it was shuttered by the pandemic in February 2020.
McWilliams waived his arraignment Wednesday in court after his arrest Tuesday.

“Chopped,” that Food Network perennial, is getting a few new ingredients.
When the Discovery-owned outlet launches two new versions of the long-running series on streaming-video hub Discovery Plus, it will do with an aim to win younger audiences to its cause. “Chopped 420” gives four chefs the chance to incorporate cannabis or cannabis-infused ingredients into their recipes while “Chopped Next Gen” focuses on younger chefs. Both series last five episodes.
Executives have considered what mainstay series might work as a spin-off aimed at niche crowds, says Courtney White, Food Network’s president. “Chopped,” she says, had the right dishes on the menu. “I think you have to have a really powerful franchise to be able to experiment this way,” the executive says.
In “Chopped 420,” comedian Ron Funches challenges four chefs to create an appetizer, entrée and dessert from a mystery basket of ingredients. They will vie for a $10,000 grand prize.

Food Network is cutting down the number of episodes for the upcoming fourth season of its holiday series “Christmas Cookie Challenge,” because of a crew member tested positive for Covid-19 this week, Variety has learned. The season will be six episodes long instead of its usual eight.
Sonic Dog, the producers of the show, offered Variety a statement (posted in full below), saying, “At episode 6, unfortunately, an employee tested positive; after contact tracing, the producers decided to wrap production. The series was not ‘shut down’ by any outside party; rather, Sonic Dog elected to wrap three days early to allow staff, crew and cast to return home as opposed to extending the schedule.”

In June, two perennial Food Network shows, Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and Robert Irvine’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” went back into production. It was the first time either show shot on location since the coronavirus pandemic brought all television and film production to a dramatic halt in mid-March. They were filmed under strict, new Covid-19 protocols with reduced, mask-wearing crews — all of whom, according to Food Network, tested negative for coronavirus after filming was completed.
Courtney White, the president of Food Network and Cooking Channel, says the network agreed to restart production after creating specific plans for each show. “It isn’t one-size-fits-all,” White tells Variety. “But we did start with: Where can we film with the smallest footprint, the smallest crew — where everybody is very comfortable, and everybody’s on board? Obviously in this scenario, everybody feels different about their own personal willingness to step out of their house.

Robert Irvine will add some new ingredients to Food Network as part of a new two-year deal with the Discovery-owned cable outlet.
Irvine will lead new episodes of his series “Restaurant: Impossible” and develop mid- and short-form video segments for both linear and digital venues, including Food Network’s Kitchen app. He will also work to help struggling restaurant owners in a new spinoff series, “Restaurant Impossible: Back in Business,” which is slated to debut July 30 at 9 p.m. eastern.
“I’m beyond grateful to have had Food Network as my professional home for so many years – and positively thrilled that our partnership will continue for the foreseeable future,” said Irvine, in a prepared statement. “The biggest thanks, however, I reserve for our fans, whose enthusiasm and support make it all possible. We have a lot of work to do, with more restaurants than ever needing a helping hand.

Restaurant: Impossible has had a very interesting journey. Originally debuting on the Food Network in 2011, the show aired until 2016. After three years of being off the air, the show returned in 2019. The show’s premise is both heartwarming and entertaining. During each episode, the show’s host, Robert Irvine, attempts to revive failing restaurants on a budget of $10,000. Not only is the goal to improve the restaurant’s look and overall functionally, but Irvine also aims to make the restaurant profitable. With his expertise and the help of experienced designers, Irvine and his crew get to work. As you

Robert Irvine is best known for his work as a celebrity chef as well as a host of several shows appearing on the Food Network. Foodies know him by name and he’s become an iconic figure on national television. Fans have enjoyed his contributions to food shows which include “Restaurant Impossible,” “Dinner Impossible,” “Worst Cooks in America,” Chopped,” “Restaurant Express,” “Guy’s Grocery Games,” and much more. He doesn’t talk about his personal life or his career unless it relates directly to food preparation so although we know him upon sight, there isn’t a lot about the man that we know.

Match #1: Ace Austin beat Eddie Edwards, Petey Williams, Jake Crist, Aiden Prince and Cousin Jake – 6 – Man Scramble Match
My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This was all sorts of fantastic moves. Everybody had a dance partner if they wanted one, which helps things quite a bit. It’s a shame that Eddie got stuffed in this match at the last minute, but this definitely proves that Eli Drake is truly out of Impact, since he was supposed to wrestle Eddie originally. In honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, the Uso is launching a six-month salute to military spouses.
Kellie Pickler performed God Bless America with the American Military Spouses Choir
The Salute to Military Spouses campaign aims to raise public awareness of the challenges and contributions of our nation’s unsung heroes by giving the public, influencers and military stakeholders concrete ways to lend their support and voice to issues that matter to the military spouse community.
“This national salute celebrates the powerful role military spouses play in ensuring the readiness and morale of our nation’s military,” Uso CEO and President J.D. Crouch II said. “Being married to a service member is more than marital status; it’s a way of life that requires selfless sacrifice. Our six-month spotlight will honor that commitment while rallying the public to support the needs of the often-unheralded military spouse.”
