Alfred Hitchcock is undoubtedly one of the most influential filmmakers that has ever lived and his films have made a mark on filmmakers today. He has an unusual yet affecting way of inducing suspense and intensity in his films and his works like Psycho, Rebecca, To Catch a Thief, Vertigo, North by Northwest, and The Birds are proof of that.
Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo is one of his most acclaimed films
The latter is one of Hitchcock’ most audacious films and actress Tippi Hedren was the lead of the film. The director is known for his rigorous process of bringing his vision to life and this proved to be an excruciating experience for Hedren as she got pecked at by real birds following a last-minute switch-up made by Hitchcock.

Everyone has done jobs they're not particularly proud of in their past. For actors, any of these past works are in the public eye, even if some go on to be largely forgotten. This includes the fan-favorite horror genre, from cheap, grindhouse and direct-to-video schlock to big-budget misfires. Beyond the quality of the movies, some actors just didn't have particularly pleasant experiences behind-the-scenes, leading them to distance themselves from their projects after completion. Every actor has a handful of films that they wish they hadn't signed on for, and with the benefit of hindsight, several have gone public with their regrets.
From established genre icons disappointed at their respective franchise returns to newcomers trying to get their start, horror has no shortage of movies Hollywood stars want off their resume. In a particular instance, one actor's horror movie experience led them to not only regret their participation, but quit acting altogether.

Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds has become such an acknowledged classic and even cultural touchstone that it is easy to forget how revolutionary it was upon its 1963 release. For the Master of Suspense himself, it was a departure in many ways from his previous work while still a testament to his craft and devotion to “pure cinema.” It all but single-handedly created, or at least redefined, an enduring horror subgenre—the animal attack film. Finally, in creating this subgenre, The Birds explores themes of humankind’s place in the world and the unpredictable power of nature. It is also a particularly meaningful film for me as it was my first Hitchcock film and was introduced to me by my grandmother, who was a great fan of classic cinema in general and Alfred Hitchcock in particular. I saw the film during a memorable stay at her home when I was around...

The Birds officially turns 60 years old in 2023 from its release date on March 28, 1963. It’s an excellent film that blends dramatic stakes with Alfred Hitchcock’s masterful use of suspense, but does it belong in his top five most significant movies? It all depends on how we define that, which is why his longtime fans are only partially right that The Birds is a top-five Hitchcock film.

"The Birds" is a classic movie, but if you go back and watch it in the context of Alfred Hitchcock's filmography, it's also somewhat bizarre, even by his standards.
Most of Hitchcock's best-known films are tales of murder and madness that could be classified as crime thrillers or works of psychological horror. "The Birds" is a full-on monster movie. Yet it's one that has a slow build around a series of inscrutable and not entirely relatable characters, led by Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren), a San Francisco socialite who's had her name in gossip columns and who's not above going to elaborate lengths to carry out a practical...

The origins of electronic music in cinema go back to the first half of the 20th century. This mix is a homage to some of those moments. It begins with a 1930s Pathé archive example of an early version of what would become a synthesizer, before moving into Dmitri Shostakovich’s first use of theremin on screen in the 1931’s Alone, directed by Grigori Kozintsev. Originally a silent film, Alone gained a soundtrack by Shostakovich just before release once film sound was made available in Russia. Bernard Herrmann’s iconic use of the theremin in The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) has a wonderful moment in this mix wherein we hear the studio sketches of this score’s creation. Taken from the 2018 reissue of the score, this recording presents studio outtakes and rehearsal moments during the production. Herrmann can be heard in the background prompting different actions from his orchestra.

Lauren Conrad is without a doubt one of the queens of Halloween costumes, and this year, her crown takes the form of crows. On Thursday, the author and designer revealed her costume for this year, and it's a throwback to Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 film The Birds. Donning bird hair ornaments and faint red streaks, Lauren is channeling the protagonist of the movie, Melanie Daniels, and the scene in which Melanie is brutally overcome by a horde of bloodthirsty birds.
Lauren describes the costume on her website, writing, " As seen on the movie poster, my costume depicts the famous bird attack that leaves Ms. Daniels terrified and full of bird scratches." She also dressed her 1-year-old son Liam in an adorable bird costume to complete the homage. If you want to re-create this gorgeously gory look, you can follow Lauren's Diy instructions on her blog.

Last year, Kiyoshi Kurosawa made one of his most purely fun pictures, Before We Vanish, adapted a play by Tomohiro Maekawa into a genuinely zany science fiction film, a chance at a bigger budget the Japanese filmmaker relished through a clever homage to 1980s blockbusters, an elastic tone of silly graveness, and vibrant dashes of special effects. Kurosawa has unexpectedly returned to this same material (another play by Maekawa, who co-wrote the script) with a new film set in the same world: Foreboding, a 5-part miniseries shown in Japanese TV last September and trimmed by an hour into a straightforward but terrific and phantasmal thriller that premiered at the Berlinale. The premise is the same across the films: in advance of an invasion, aliens are quietly inhabiting the bodies of normal people, finding human guides to escort them around, and harvest “concepts” (work, love, death) from the minds of those...
