“The Suicide Squad,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “House of Gucci” lead the ninth annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild nominations (IATSE Local 706).
“The Suicide Squad,” released last August, was nominated in special makeup effects, contemporary makeup and contemporary hairstyling.
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “House of Gucci” also landed three nominations, while “Dune” scored two nods. This bodes well for all the films which made the Oscar shortlist.
As previously announced, makeup artist Michèle Burke, known for her work on the Mission Impossible and Austin Powers franchises, and hairstylist Joy Zapata, who worked on “A Star is Born” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” will receive the 2022 Muahs Lifetime Achievement awards. The Distinguished Artisan award will be announced shortly.
The winners will be announced on Feb. 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

When asked the best way to address 2020 Emmy winner David “Raven” Petruschin regarding gender and/or personal pronouns, you most definitely get a response fit for a Queen. “You can say David Aka Raven, or Raven Also Known as David. You can call me a c–t if you like!,” exudes the wonderfully blunt individual responsible for the ever-evolving visage of RuPaul Charles. And if last year’s Emmy win wasn’t enough, Raven is back for more as nominee again this year in the Outstanding Makeup in a Multi-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic) category. But it’s been a long road since the drag performer first appeared in the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” where she was runner-up.

David Petruschin is known to “RuPaul’s Drag Race” fans as Raven. The fan favorite competed in both Season 2 and “All Stars” Season 1 and has been working as RuPaul’s makeup artist for the past five years. Last year pushed Petruschin to work under new conditions when production resumed on “Drag Race” U.K, U.S and a new iteration, “Down Under,” amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He had to pivot to making up the queen of drag with new safety protocols in place, and he earned this third consecutive variety, nonfiction or reality program makeup Emmy nom in the process. (He won last year.)
How did you go from being a contestant on “Drag Race” to RuPaul’s makeup artist?
In 2016, I was asked to come and do Ru’s makeup. Up until then, I had only seen RuPaul in drag when the whole monster was done. I never thought I would see the inner workings.

Each year I think about covering RuPaul's Drag Race, so I'm finally doing it. Like Mad Men (and I bet this is the only time you'll hear them compared!) it's awash in fun movie references. Highlights from the past have included Raja's bucket of blood Carrie dress to Raven's "I'm giving Michelle Pfeiffer bitch" to Jinkx Monsoon's Grey Gardens fetish to Tammie Brown's demented Old Hollywood persona to numerous truly terrible movie star impersonations (I've never seen a worse Marilyn or Joan Crawford, for example, than this show has provided) and so on. I know. I know. It's the sixth season, "the sixening". The library is open if you'd like to read me because these books are overdue!

RuPaul's Drag Race is a competition based on the unbeatable criteria of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, but a quick glance at the show's contestant history proves that deadly good looks may be a part of the package. And sometimes the package is part of the deadliness. Ow-ow! Cue the chicken laugh, Detox.

Manila Luzon (a.k.a. Karl Westerberg) is one of the most ferocious queens in RuPaul's Drag Race history, and it's no surprise that the season-three alum made the roster for RuPaul's All Star Drag Race, which airs its third episode Monday night. Paired with Latrice Royale, Manila slayed during last week's comedy challenge with a thunderous impersonation of Madonna that completely outclassed the rest of the competition (even if Yara Sofia and Alexis Mateo took the win). And if I do say so myself, Manila has the coolest drag name in the history of the show. What two words better proclaim "Filipina pride"?
While the competition is certainly a lot of fun, it's difficult to watch without thinking about Manila's gorgeous partner and fellow Drag Race veteran Sahara Davenport (a.k.a. Antoine Ashley), who passed away last month due to heart failure at the age of 27. The...

Welcome back, hunties. As we recover from one bitch of a hurricane, we're left to reckon with another — the drag queens of RuPaul's Drag Race. As Raven points out, it’s not just about Charisma, Unique, Nerve, Talent (C.U.N.T.), but also Synergy (C.U.N.T.S.). And don’t you forget it. We’ve slimmed our ranks from twelve to ten (so long, Team Mandora!), and Ru’s next challenge? The “Gaff-In,” because a drag queen needs to stick it to a punch line. But first! We have a special mini-challenge, a get-to-know-you game called InDaButtRu, where each team is tasked with answering questions about each other. But because the drag queen definition of knowing your partner is different than, say, the Newlywed Game version of knowing your partner, the questions go something like this: “Raven, who would Jujubee say has a tighter tuck?” (The correct answer is Raven.

Actress Raven-symone has hit back at tabloid speculation about her sexuality, insisting her love life is nobody's business but her own.
The former child star found herself under the spotlight this week (begs14May12) following a National Enquirer expose which suggested she had set up home in New York with rumoured girlfriend AzMarie Livingston, a contestant on Tyra Banks' reality TV show America's Next Top Model.
The article prompted an annoyed Symone to take to Twitter.com on Friday and lash out at the claims, although she refused to set the record straight about her sexual orientation, insisting the information should be private.
In a series of tweets, she writes, "I'm living my Personal life the way I'm happiest. I'm not one, in my 25 year career, to disclose who I'm dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm datings (sic) to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life.
"However that is my right as a Human BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I'm not harming anyone. I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life. Kisses!"

Reality TV judging: It’s important. I can only commit to a TV talent show if I believe there are tough, fair-minded judges keeping the circus under control. I believe I've expressed my love for Raven of RuPaul's Drag Race before. I loved her ferosh wit and confrontational showmanship long before she owned me for good with her "I'm giving Michelle Pfeiffer Bitch" competition moment. Now, she's the main attraction (if you ask me) of Drag U, the spin off show with TV's most absurd premise: drag queens do makeovers on biological women. It's really quite quite perverse when you think about it. It's essentially telling women that their men will be hotter for them if they look more like drag queens! Is this show trying to create a whole future generation of trannychasers?
Earlier this year on Drag Race Season 3 movie-geeks everywhere were horrified to realize that half of the young drag queen contestants on the show had never heard of the high school classic Heathers (1989). This basic pop culture fail did not automatically eliminate them from...

RuPaul’s Drag Race aired its final episode of season 3 last week, but that doesn’t mean that you have too long for more queens on Logo. No, silly, the reality show’s spin-off, RuPaul’s Drag U — the series that finds Drag Race alums making over what RuPaul refers to as “biological women” — returns for 10 brand-new episodes on June 20 at 9 p.m., and EW has exclusively learned the list of luminaries serving as guest judges this coming season. As you can see from the photo here, Glee’s Dot Jones — who plays fan-favorite Coach Beiste and is pictured with...

Although last week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race pared the field of queens down to the final three, tonight’s edition of the reality extravaganza won’t crown America’s Next Drag Superstar. No, we’re in that fun-fun filler week, where the show pumps out a retrospective episode that fondly looks back over the season. It’s called “RuPaul Rewind,” and EW has an exclusive preview of the opening to the episode, which — yes, yes, yes! — features RuPaul in a Burlesque homage that finds our mother-queen hilariously saying “Wagon Wheel Watusi” in the style of Cher and also stars Chaz Bono!

Shall we have a small screen comment diversion? There are two things in particular that are urging this post on. One: Gwyneth Paltrow as "Holly Holiday" wisecracking sexed up substitute teacher on Glee and Raja's increasingly commendable and now movie-spoofing creativity on RuPaul's Drag Race.
Let's take Raja first. Rita Rudner, who was the guest judge and comedy coach for this week's challenge (developing a comedy routine), was worried that people wouldn't have seen Carrie (1976) "I haven't seen it in 40 years" and therefore wouldn't get Raja's references. Oh Rita; the gays have seen Carrie! It's maybe not as obsessively worshipped as Baby Jane but it's up there. Raja came out wearing this.
Raja as Carrie, Raja as Herself
They're all going to laugh at you! (On purpose.)
I don't want to stress how much I love Raja and did long before he started referencing great movies like...

I discovered season two of RuPaul's "Drag Race" while convalescing on the couch during a New Year's bout of food poisoning. Thirteen episodes later and seven pounds lighter (best diet ever!), I had developed a new obsession: Raven .
Ok, his name is David Petruschin, but most people know him as the season two runner-up and a totally fierce West Hollywood drag queen. I wouldn't call my infatuation with him/her a bad thing, but I'm not sure it's healthy for a (98 percent) straight girl to lust after an (entirely) gay man in heels.
Is it?
I spent three insomnia-riddled nights watching clips of Raven (and those of my other favorites like Pandora Boxx) from the show, marveling at her beauty and versatility. The transformation these men go through is absolutely amazing. They go from beards and balls to perfectly contoured foundation and the fiercest tuck games in town. But when out of drag,...

TV @ The Movies is a series that came to life because we always perk up when movies or movie actors are name-checked on the small screen. Who and what fillters into pop culture? And in what form?
Are any of you watching RuPaul's Drag Race Season 3? In the latest episode The Supermodel of The World gave her competing "gurls" scripts to film a movie trailer "Drag Queens in Outer Space: Return to Uranus". The acting in the final trailers was so hideous I didn't even remotely wish the fake movie was real and given that it was called "Drag Queens in Outer Space: Return to Uranus," that's a fail.
Shangela & Mimi discuss their upcoming performances
Shangela and Mimi Imfurst already hate each other and have become immediate rivals. This is because they're both crafty disingenuous camera hogs and nothing drives people crazier than seeing their unflattering traits reflected in other people.

Dancing with the Stars
If this show does one thing well, it would be casting the widest possible net of celebrities and, um, “celebrities” known to film, television, stage, sports, and train-wreck reality shows. This time around, we’ve even got a “political” daughter.
Here’s the cast for this season: David Hasselhoff, Michael Bolton, Brandy, Margaret Cho, Rick Fox (NBA), Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing!), Florence Henderson (Mrs. Brady is 76-years- old!), Kyle Massey (Disney kid), Bristol Palin (Alaska’s fav?), Audrina Partridge (The Hills), Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, and Kurt Warner (NFL).
I have to say, the ladies were the standouts this week. Brandy and Audrina were pretty good, and Jennifer Grey was phenomenal. There was a touching moment when they showed her in rehearsal as she was learning the steps to a Dirty Dancing song and she broke down, remembering Patrick Swayze.

It’s a mixed bag for the gays this week as we have more Ragan on Big Brother (who’s your saboteur, baby!), less Ryan on The Real World, and I learn to appreciate – sort of – Brent on the Beekman Boys.
But Real World’s Knight shows his homophobic side, Preston cries because he can’t use power tools (but does Lady Gaga drag so he cares!) and my DVR ate Project Runway so I can’t recap what happened!
Oh, well, as long as Jujubee is present on RuPaul’s DragU, how bad can things really be?
Big Brother
Once again, the cartoonish Head of Household competition is down to “I tell people my wife has a disease and I’m a genius” Matt and out Ragan.

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
I imagine there are many perks to being Kathy Griffin’s assistant: jet-setting around the globe, meeting celebrities and pseudo-celebrities (I’m raising my penciled-in eyebrow at you, Snooki), and hanging around a really funny lady.
Oh, and having your nether regions waxed.
On this week’s D-List, Kathy hocked her wares to sell out three shows at Madison Square Garden, then worked on meeting her book publisher’s demand of selling 600 books at a single book signing, and getting herself “vagazzled.”
With a trip to the salon for a Brazilian once over and some sparkly bling just north of the money shot, Kathy was ready to get the word out and her pap smear on (under the watchful eyes of an audience and the media, of course) to spread the word about cervical cancer.
Naturally, Kathy wasn’t satisfied until her nervous...

Basically, we’ve been in drag withdrawal for a while now, and we can’t tell you how good it feels seeing Ru and Jujubee and Raven and Ongina and the rest of the Drag Race alums back on TV where they belong.
Thanks to the wisdom of Ongina, another impressionable person discovers

To open the series premiere of RuPaul’s Drag U, RuPaul described the little drag university she’d lovingly created. “Deep in the Titty-Caca Valley,” said the diva, “a school was formed to help biological women unleash their inner diva, and let the world have it!” The ladies, she continued, were “ready to change their lives through the miracle of drag.” Yes, girls and other girls, RuPaul has taken her glamorous lady-eye and turned it toward frumpy gals who need a little help from the other side. The other side, of course, being their lady-boy friends and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants,...

Face it: Summer television is A) not gay enough (True Blood can’t do it all!), and B) sadly devoid of the presence of RuPaul. But thank your lucky stars, because tonight TV gets gayer and draggier — and RuPaul reemerges! That’s right: It’s the much-anticipated premiere of RuPaul’s Drag U, the Drag Race spin-off that features some of the original show’s fave queens making over straight ladies — RuPaul calls them “biological women” — who are in dire need of some Tlc and a new look. What exactly was it about the first two seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race that made for such incredibly watchable television?
I think it was three things: (1) some very likable contestants who gave you a real feel for the genuine artistry of drag; (2) the fact that the contestants took the competition very seriously, and as a result, you cared what happened to them; and (3) the ever-fascinating RuPaul, who has the personality of a freight train.
At least two of those three things are back in a Drag Race spin-off reality series, RuPaul's Drag U, premiering Monday, July 19th on Logo at 9 Pm/8C.
The gimmick of Drag U is that each week three women who are unhappy with their lives are invited to attend "Drag U," where three Drag Race drag queen favorites will act as "professors," giving the women a "drag" make-over. At the end of each episode, RuPaul and...

Talk about warts and all!
The good thing about reality TV is that it’s allowed viewers to see real-life gay and bisexual men in “real” situations. The bad thing about reality TV is that it’s allowed viewers to see real-life gay and bisexual mean in “real” situations.
Not really. We actually think it’s terrific that reality television has allowed viewers to see a much, much more diverse range of gay and bisexual men – racial and otherwise – than they ever see on scripted television.
And some of the most interesting things viewers have seen have been the relationships between two gay or bi men, whether they’re a couple, brothers, or just “frenemies.”
The bickering! The back-stabbing! At first glance, you might cringe and think, “Did they really have to show that? What will people think?”

RuPaul's Drag Race ended its second season this week, as RuPaul chose Tyra Sanchez, aka James Moss, as the winner over Raven, aka David Petruschin, the runner-up, a controversial decision that has caused some fans to moronically accuse RuPaul of racism. Because of that, the series has been renewed, as has its behind-the-scenes show Untucked, while an already-announced spin-off, RuPaul's Drag U, airs this...

This has to stop.
On Monday, RuPaul revealed the winner of the second season of his RuPaul's Drag Race reality TV show, and it turned out to be Tyra Sanchez.
The choice was controversial. A sizable number of viewers were rooting for the quick-witted Pandora Boxx , who had been eliminated earlier in the season, but who won the Miss Congeniality Award in the reunion show ("by a landslide," RuPaul said).
Others thought plucky, amiable Jujubee would have made a better "Next Drag Superstar," or even foul-mouthed, but always flawlessly-executed Raven.
There are plenty of good reasons to second-guess the actual pick, but racism on the part of RuPaul isn't one of them.
But weirdly, that is precisely what a disturbing number of people are saying, on the Drag Race Facebook page and even here in the comments at AfterElton.com.
What's the evidence? Despite selecting multi-racial casts this year and last,...

Did you watch the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race earlier this week? For the final challenge they had to do a catsuit clad catfight and a music video "scene" with RuPaul straight outta 80s era Dynasty. I fully expected the series outcome but I was still disappointed. Scary/beautiful Raven was robbed. She was great all season long but for the finale challenge she was the only contestant who understood and nailed the 80s.

I believe this is the first time in the history of the English language that anyone has said "I'm channelling Kelly LeBrock." Or at least the first time anyone's thought of doing so since the mid 80s when LeBrock had her flash-in-the-pan as the ideal female in The Woman in Red (1984) and Weird Science (1985).

Some fierce drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race stopped over at PopEater to talk about their show (the finale aired on Monday) and dish on some celebrities. JuJuBee, Raven, and Tyra Sanchez were the final three contestants left on the show and after spending a month living with some cut-throat bitches looking to win the title of America's Next Drag Superstar, they learned a few things about trash-talking. As I live-blogged the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race last night on LogoTV.com, via my Twitter account, there was quite the debate raging: Who should effing win this big ol' mess of a drag competition? Some reality competition shows are over the hill -- and it shows -- but the comparatively young RuPaul's Drag Race is so fun and fresh-faced that it doesn't even need to make use of its own gauzy lenses. Tonight, we'll find out whether Jujubee, Raven, or Tyra Sanchez will take home the top prize, and frankly, I'm more invested in this outcome than I ever was in the shows that Drag Race parodies (like America's Next Top Model and Project Runway). As a run-up to next week's two-and-a-half-hour finale extravaganza -- that's one hour of the actual show, one hour of reunion, and a half-hour of spin-off Untucked -- last night's episode of RuPaul's Drag Race wasn't just a regular installment of main stage action, of course. Rather, it was "The Main Event Clip Show," a sprite look back at the highs and lows of the season. Last night's episode of RuPaul's Drag Race wasn't totally devoid of the dearly, dearly departed Pandora Boxx, who unfortunately bit the dust two weeks ago. The hour opened with the ladies seeing the lipsticked message my favorite queen left for them on the workroom's mirror: "Lick this boxx, bitch." Even post-elimination, Pandora is still bringing the funny to Drag Race! Thank goodness! The episode featured the "fantastic final four" -- Tatianna, Jujubee, Raven, and Tyra Sanchez -- fighting it out for RuPaul's trio of fake Diva Awards.
