Maboroshi Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Junya Enoki, Reina Ueda, Misaki Kuno, Koji Seto, and Kento Hayashi.
Director: Mari Okada
Maboroshi Movie Review ( Photo Credit – Netflix Anime / YouTube )
What’s Good: The quality of the animation is quite impressive and proves that Mappa is just working at the peak of its abilities.
What’s Bad: The story never manages to set up characters and stakes in the proper way. Thus, when the climax arrives, it feels hollow.
Loo Break: The second act is a perfect loo break as the plot meanders between different characters and struggles to get to the point.
Watch or Not?: Watch only if you’re a Mappa fan.
Language: Japanese (with English subtitles).
Available On: Netflix
Runtime: 112 Minutes.
User Rating:
It is without question that Mappa is the most famous and most important studio in the anime medium, thanks to their many popular adaptations of famous manga,...

"You're wasting your time! Go away" Grasshopper Films has debuted the official Us trailer for a Japanese romantic drama titled Asako I & II, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year. This is actually just one 119 minute film, despite the title including what references to what looks like Part I & Part II. The title is actually a reference to the plot - where a woman from Osaka (named Asako) meets a man, falls in love with him, then he disappears. Two years later, she meets his perfect double. Erika Karata stars as Asako, along with Masahiro Higashide as both Baku & Ryôhei (of course), plus Sairi Itô, Kôji Nakamoto, Kôji Seto, Misako Tanaka, and Daichi Watanabe. This played to quite a bit of acclaim at Cannes, and stopped by a number of other prestigious festivals last fall. Everyone always talks about the cat. If you're in the mood for...

It's been less than three weeks since we brought you news of a tantalising new J-horror movie called Judge. On paper it reads like another Japanese death game/survival horror movie, based on the popular Manga series by Yoshiki Tonogai . Strangers wake up with no idea of where they are, accused of crimes they must atone for, by playing a deadly game that only one of them will survive. The deadly games they encounter are inspired by the seven deadly sins; Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride. The trailer doesn't give too much away but it does look suitably creepy, and the animal masks are a really nice touch. It's a low budget offering for sure but there's enough here to warrant our full attention over the coming months. Starring Koji Seto, Kasumi Arimura and Jiro Sato, Judge premieres in Japanese theatres on November 8th. Check out the...

Oh, Sadako 3D. How unfulfilled I was left after watching you. I waited many months for a proper U.S. release and Well Go USA fulfilled my want. Unfortunately, my excitement was drowned out by an offensive mish mash of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and The Exorcist: The Version You've never Seen.
A high school teacher named Akane (Satomi Ishihara) hears rumors of a cursed video clip circulating online. The clip is said to show a man, Kashiwada (Yûsuke Yamamoto), commiting suicide. Supposedly, anyone who watches the video is driven to commit suicide themselves. Akane refuses to believe the rumors until one of her students mysteriously dies after viewing it.
Akane soon discovers that Kashiwada intends to use the clip to cause chaos and death, which will help the spirit of Sadako (Ai Hashimoto) find a host body for her to possess.

Around these parts we are big fans of the Japanese Ring films. Hell, even the American version of The Ring was pretty good. Sure, the Japanese TV show sucked and the American The Ring 2 left Lots to be desired, so we're hoping Sadako 3D can right some wrongs.
