Peter Ho-sun Chan received the Asia Star Awards’ ‘Special Achievement Award’ in recognition of his contribution to the Asian film industry at the Busan International Film Festival on October 4.
Korea’s Choi Min Sik was named Actor of the Year at the ceremony, while Asia Star Awards were also given to Kim Soo Hyun and Cecilia Liu.
Chan’s latest directorial title Dearest recently played at the Venice, Toronto and Rio film festivals, and is also screening at Busan, London and the Hawaii International Film Festival. It opened in China on September 26 and grossed $32.5m (RMB200m) in its first week.
Hong Kong’s We Distribution has sold the film to a slew of Asian territories including Hong Kong (Edko Films), Korea (b.o.m.), Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei (Clover Films) and Japan (Happinet). Versatile Films is handling international sales outside Asia.

Jet Li, star of countless classic martial arts movies, teams up with the producer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Kung Fu Hustle for Badge of Fury (aka Badges of Fury) a crime drama caper that is more caper than crime… Even though, at least on paper this would seem like a perfect Hong Kong action flick:
When a spate of murders erupt across Hong Kong, two kick-ass cops are assigned to the case. Chaos soon escalates when they reach a dead end and the detectives must play a deadly game to lure the killer out.
You see from that synopsis I was expecting something special, along the lines of New Police Story or (an undoubtedly sub-par) Infernal Affairs,...
