Moritz Mohr’s debut feature Boy Kills World is probably the best of the action offerings people have witnessed in recent years. Released on April 26, the action movie starring Jessica Rothe and Bill Skarsgård follows the story of a deaf and mute orphan who seeks revenge for his family’s murder.
Jessica Rothe as June 27 in Boy Kills World (2024)
While the film majorly focused on Bill Skarsgård as the lead, Jessica Rothe stole eyes with her phenomenal action sequences as June 27, an enforcer working for the Van Der Koys. Certainly, Rothe’s role demanded her to go through extreme training to convincingly become the ultimate fighter in the film. The actress therefore revealed learning 17 forms of Martial Arts in preparation for her role.

A fiercely capable woman with ice water in her veins finds herself in a creepy-looking mansion, where she has to survive a supernatural threat over the course of one endless night and eventually ends up covered in gore and viscera? If I had a nickel for every time a horror movie directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence) came out in the last five years with that exact same premise, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but you know how the rest of the meme goes. If this past weekend's "Abigail" triggered a nagging feeling of déjà vu, well, that's probably because the vampire movie packing a nasty bite (you can read /Film's review by Bj Colangelo here) shares quite a bit of DNA with the directing duo's previous movie, 2019's "Ready or Not."
Apparently, the creative team decided to lean into those similarities even more.

Both extremely bloody cat-and-mouse chases through massive mansions, Radio Silence’s horror movies Ready or Not and Abigail (now playing in theaters!) are certainly cut from the same cloth, but do they actually take place within a shared universe? It was a question the filmmakers were asked, and their response suggests that the answer to that question is Yes.
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff asked the question of Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who co-directed both 2019’s Ready or Not and this year’s Abigail. As they point out, an Easter egg nestled within Abigail confirms a shared universe connection.
Bettinelli-Olpin tells Collider, “There is a portrait in the background of one of the scenes [in Abigail] of Henry Czerny’s [character from Ready or Not].” Gillet chimes in to clarify, “It would be a grandfather. A great, great, great, great grandfather [of Czerny’s character].”

If you are a horror fan then you might have heard about the director duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who gave us brilliant horror films like 2022’s Scream and 2019’s Ready or Not and now they are back with their new and even campier horror film Abigail. Written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, the new horror film is a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula’s Daughter and it follows the story of a group of kidnappers who are told to kidnap the daughter of a very powerful man and keep her in the house for 24 hours, but they quickly realize that the daughter might not be what she seems. Abigail stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Will Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito, and Matthew Goode. So, if you loved the horror, survival, and gory elements of Abigail here are some...

This article contains massive spoilers for "Abigail."
"Abigail" features a group of six mercenaries holding the eponymous girl (Alisha Weir) hostage in a manor. Who's really in the mousetrap here, though?
The trailer gave it all away, but Abigail is a vampire and has brought this group of six together for a feast — one they won't be leaving. It's like the inversion of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's previous mansion survival thriller, "Ready or Not." In that one, Grace (Samara Weaving), recently married into the wealthy Le Domas family, has to dodge her new in-laws as they play the most dangerous game. In "Abigail," a single, seemingly fragile girl hunts a group of people.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett previously directed "Scream" V and VI (Barrera starred in those movies before she was fired from "Scream" VII for pro-Palestine posts); "Abigail" inherits the meta-horror touch of "Scream." When the characters find out what Abigail is,...

Filmmaking collective Radio Silence says a script for Ready Or Not 2 has been written, and that it’s “an absolute f—ing banger.”
Confirming an earlier rumour that a sequel to 2019’s Ready Or Not is in development, the filmmakers collectively known as Radio Silence have said that a script has already been written. They also add that the screenplay is rather good – or a “an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel,” to quote one of them directly.
We’re guessing the censored bit was ‘flaming’ or perhaps ‘flipping’.
“It’s getting figured out,” co-director Tyler Gillett told Entertainment Weekly when asked about the sequel’s status. “That’s what we’ll say: Ready Or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute [flipping] banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made,...

Has it really been five years since the release of Ready or Not? The film, which starred Samara Weaving as a young bride who her spouse’s wealthy family hunts as part of a ritual, received positive reviews and didn’t do too badly at the box office, so where’s the sequel? Well, directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and producer Chad Villella — collectively known as Radio Silence — told Entertainment Weekly that they’ve been working on Ready or Not 2 since the release of the first movie and tease that it’s “an absolute f***ing banger.“

“Ready or Not” directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are ready for their horror movie’s sequel — and they say the new script is a masterpiece.
The collaborators and producing partner Chad Villella (aka Radio Silence as a trio) told Entertainment Weekly in an interview out Monday that they’ve been working on “Ready or Not 2” since the original came out in 2019. Plus, it sounds like they’ve got an “absolute f—king banger” on their hands.
“It’s getting figured out,” Gillett explained about the film, which has yet to be officially greenlit. “That’s what we’ll say: ‘Ready or Not 2’ is getting figured out. ‘Ready or Not’: Radio Silence Filmmakers Tease the “Absolute Banger” of a Sequel That’s Taking Shape
It was first reported a couple weeks ago that Ready or Not 2 is now in development, with Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan, Insidious: The Last Key, Escape Room, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) in talks to direct the sequel to the 2019 box office hit. Additionally, we had learned that Samara Weaving would be returning to star.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with Ready or Not directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin in the wake of those reports, and we’ve now got an update straight from the source.

You might often feel like you’re already living through an apocalyptic nightmare, but I assure you that E.L. Katz’s new culty survival horror Azrael is way weirder and more wild than anything you’re doomscrolling through late at night. Written by Simon Barrett, and starring genre badass Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Azrael is a blood-soaked and buck wild revenge tale set in a fractured world. It’s got everything you could ask for in a post-apocalyptic horror flick. It’s got cults, it’s got shotguns, it’s got seething anger, and (best of all) it’s got weird hellscape creatures lurking in the forest that rip people to shreds...

Plot: Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.

This SXSW round-up is a bit like our living (and growing) scrapbook from this year’s big event. We’ll continue to update the article as more video interviews and entries become available.
The SXSW festival has changed and changed again in its 35-plus years. Originally begun as “just” a music festival, the event has become an intersection that’s ever expanding. Bringing in the best of film, television, gaming, and even the cutting edge of technology, it is sometimes hard to quantify what isn’t SXSW these days. Even the Film Festival is now the Film & TV Festival. Still, Den of Geek tried to cover it all, so here’s a look at all the exciting projects we got an early glimpse at in our studio.

Ready Or Not 2 is reportedly in the works with Samara Weaving returning to reprise her role from the first film.
2019’s Ready Or Not was one of the best horror films we’ve had in the last five years. It was fun, had some great kills and a killer plot with an ending for the ages.
The film followed Samara Weaving’s Grace as she marries her dream guy, Alex, whose family owns a successful board game company. On her wedding night, Grace finds herself as the victim of a particularly cruel game that the family plays.
Industry insider Jeff Sneider reports in his newsletter (via the lovely folks at Bloody Disgusting) that a sequel to the hit film is now in the works. Weaving is expected to return to play Grace once again, but the project is still in the early stages of development so not much else is known at this time.

While the experimental premise of “Azrael” is commendable on paper — a wordless, gore-filled revenge indie about a woman escaping a religious cult, as well as zombies of some sort — the film finds itself unable to visually convey many basic tenets of its story. In struggling to reconcile image and meaning, it ends up yielding an uncanny experience that invites too many dueling interpretations, and not nearly enough emotional certainty.

Samara Weaving blew up on the scene when she was the lead of the horror-tinged action flick Ready or Not. She’s claiming her spot as the hybrid scream queen/action heroine with Azrael, a midnight movie that has plenty of great action and effects, carrying it through a thin premise that wouldn’t be particularly entertaining were it not for these excellent technical elements.
In the movie, Samara Weaving plays a woman who is on the run from a religious cult that wants to sacrifice her to an ancient deity in the woods. What makes Azrael stand out is that it is set in a world where no one speaks. It’s the latest in a string of dialogue-free genre films (after No One Will Save You and Silent Night), and while it justifies the gimmick better than most in the past, it doesn’t always work.

Billie Eilish was almost cast in new horror movie 'Azrael'.The 'Bad Guy' hitmaker is yet to make her debut in a feature length film, but 'Azrael' director E.L. Katz has revealed how one of the main characters was created with the 22-year-old pop star in mind. She told Collider: "So, Azrael, [Simon Barrett] wrote that in what felt like two weeks or three weeks or something."It was something I’d never read, even from him, and it was almost like all of his sensibilities distilled in this austere experiential thing with no fat at all."I loved it and I just wanted to see it get made. At first, Simon was going to direct it. I wanted that to happen. We wanted Billie Eilish to be in it, or something.”The movie stars Samara Weaving in the lead role, and she suspects Eilish...

The term “scream queen” gets thrown around a lot, even applied to actors who have only done a handful of horror films. But if any young performer deserves the title, it’s Samara Weaving. Not only does she star in the very gruesome post-apocalyptic horror-action movie Azrael, directed by E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills) and written by Simon Barrett (The Guest), which just premiered at SXSW 2024, but she’s been in The Babysitter, Scream VI, and Ready or Not, among others. In fact, when we ask Weaving at the festival whether she likes being referred to as a “scream queen,” she answers quickly, “Yeah, why not? ‘Scream Queen’ is great. I’ll take it!”
For Weaving, the appeal of horror movies goes beyond the guts and gore most often associated with the genre. “It’s such a good vehicle to explore so many things,” she tells Den of Geek. “For [Azrael], it...

Samara Weaving has earned modern scream queen status with roles in films like The Babysitter, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Mayhem, Ready or Not, Scream VI, and the upcoming horror action movie Azrael, plus a few episodes of the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series. Since Weaving has worked in both the Scream and Evil Dead franchises, she was asked during a new interview with Collider which horror franchise she would like to be a part of next. Her answer: Nightmare on Elm Street.
The filmmakers behind Azrael had originally wanted to cast Billie Eilish in the role Weaving ended up playing. So when she was asked the horror franchise question, she said, “Nightmare on Elm Street. I can do it. Unless Billie Eilish gets it now.“

In a future some time beyond the Rapture, a sect of penitents renounces the gift of speech in the hopes of secondary salvation. However, their survival depends on more than piety, and when a sacrifice goes awry, one former believer is out for vengeance in director E.L. Katz’s (Cheap Thrills) unusual survival horror, Azrael. Azrael (Samara Weaving) and Kenan (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) are on the run. At first, we don’t know what from, but just as quickly as we are introduced, they are captured by a group of voiceless religious zealots and dragged to a blood sacrifice to appease the evil things living in the surrounding woods. Azrael is to be surrendered first while Kenan is taken back to the village, presumably for a subsequent ritual,...

“A revenge ghost story with elements of a monster movie” is how Irish helmer Damian McCarthy describes his latest chiller, which is set to bring “plenty of scares and a few a few laughs” to SXSW’s late-night line-up. A supernatural horror centered around spooky trinkets, Oddity follows a blind medium (You Are Not My Mother’s Carolyn Bracken) as she uncovers the truth behind her twin sister’s death with the help of a terrifying wooden mannequin.

On the way from 20th Century is a heist thriller titled Eenie Meanie, and Deadline reports that Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream 6) and Karl Glusman (Watcher) will star.
Shawn Simmons (“Wayne”) is directing the film, and Simmons also wrote the script.
Deadline notes that Eenie Meanie is likely to debut on Hulu.
“The film follows a former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.”
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are producing.
A favorite in the horror world, Samara Weaving has a handful of projects headed our way soon, also including horror movie Azrael and the 1980s-set action-thriller Bella.

Samara Weaving is buckling up for 20th Century Studios forthcoming heist thriller Eenie Meanie. Sitting shotgun for the project is Karl Glusman, with writer-director Shawn Simmons at the helm. Producing the fast-paced thriller is Deadpool franchise alums Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
In Eenie Meanie, Samara Weaving plays Edie, “a former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.” (via Deadline)
Glusman hits the pavement as John, Edie’s recurrent boyfriend. Despite their differences, Edie feels compelled to pull John out of the flames of a terrible situation.
As one of my favorite actors in the business today, Samara Weaving is a force of nature. For some of her best performances, check out Joe Lynch’s Mayhem. The 2017 action-comedy is like Office Space meets The Raid and is a must-watch.

How does one repay a team of producers for launching its highest grossing film of all time? Give them the key to the studio — literally.
On Monday, “Barbie” producers, LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara inked a first-look deal at Warner Bros., which distributed the $1.4 billion-grossing movie. So, to celebrate, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Co-Chairs and CEO Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca decided to resurrect an old tradition, started by WB co-founder Jack Warner.

As we now know, it’s a vampire movie – in which its central bloodsucker is a vicious child ballerina.
“It just felt like, ‘This is the iconic feel of the movie’,” co-director Tyler Gillett tells Empire of the ‘vampire ballerina’ idea. “The imagery is this young girl, in a tutu,...

Majestic and stunning. Pierpaolo Piccioli staged a presentation for Valentino during this week’s Paris haute couture Spring Summer 2024 shows — attended by such names as house ambassador Florence Pugh, Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Jenner with daughter Stormi — that reiterates the importance, grandeur and amazement of the handmade, highlighted by the house’s seamstresses who precede the designer in the final greeting to the audience.
