Life is brutal in the zombie apocalypse. AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has killed off dozens of characters over the course of its 11-season run, from series regulars to beloved guest stars. Character deaths can deliver shocking gore (like when Emmy nominee Tyler James Wilson’s Noah has his face ripped apart in a revolving door) or a final heroic moment (as when Tony and Emmy nominee Tovah Feldshuh’s Deanna sacrifices herself while delivering a defiant scream). But the most memorable ends are the ones that rip at the hearts of viewers and leave them in a puddle of tears.
As “The Walking Dead” rockets toward its November 20 series finale, here are the top five most emotional deaths from the past 11 seasons.
Carl Grimes

It’s the end of the world and they know it in “Radioflash,” a neither-fish-nor-fowl tale of survival after a massive, seemingly permanent power failure. At first this seems a fairly straightforward “what if” scenario of one family’s coping with the rapid breakdown of society in an unprecedented emergency. But first-time feature director/co-writer Ben McPherson eventually throws in more conventionally exploitative elements that push things toward the realms of thriller and quasi-horror, without actually embracing those genres.
The result is an offbeat conceptual mixture, albeit one that’s somewhat frustrating and occasionally tedious, if beautifully photographed by Austin Schmidt. It opens on 25 U.S. screens Nov. 15. As if anticipating the cries of fanboy types sure to be irked that the film doesn’t identify sufficiently as sci-fi, horror, or thriller, McPherson opens with an elaborately misleading sequence that signals all three, trapping heroine Reese (Brighton Sharbino) in a surreal escape-room nightmare.

IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. rights to “Radioflash,” a survival thriller starring Dominic Monaghan and Brighton Sharbino, Variety has learned. The company will release the movie on Nov. 15.
The film imagines a dystopian future, one in which an electric-magnetic pulse strikes America, knocking out all the power and pushing the country into the Dark Ages. Reese (Sharbino), a tech-savvy teenager and her father Chris (Monaghan) flee the city, and seek refuge with her grandfather deep in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Safety proves to be hard to come by.
“With a genre film, the type we have seen before, the challenge is to make it different,” director Ben McPherson said in a statement. “I wanted this film to be unpredictable and disorienting so that the viewer like the protagonist never knew what was around each corner. There is never a moment in the film where we are certain about who we can trust,...

Domestication: It’s not for everyone. In Marianna Palka’s latest film, “Bitch,” the concept of the domestic drama is gleefully upended, thanks to a natty twist on what it means to be expected to act a certain way. The filmmaker and actress stars in the film as beleaguered housewife Jill Hart, who snaps after her suburban existence is ruined by revelations that her dum-dum husband (Jason Ritter, playing hilariously against type) is cheating on her, all while their kids run roughshod over her.
Jill takes this domestication thing to crazy ends, literally assuming the psyche of a vicious dog, one who doesn’t care — and doesn’t have to — about the demands of her thankless life. While Bill and the kids attempt to manage this entirely unforeseen situation, Jill basically runs wild in the basement, finally free to give into her own worst impulses and be the bitch she’s always wanted to be.

With screaming kids and an unsupportive husband, a mother reaches a psychological breaking point in Dark Sky Films' official trailer for Bitch.

"Maybe Jill is doing you a favor? Maybe it's the life you're supposed to be living..." The official trailer has debuted for a bizarre dark comedy film titled Bitch, from indie writer/director Marianna Palka (Always Worthy, Good Dick), who also co-stars in the film. The film is about a woman who assumes the psyche of a vicious dog as her checked-out, philandering husband attempts to keep the family together. Palka stars as Jill, and Jason Ritter stars as her husband (the same duo who co-starred in Palka's Good Dick in 2008, though I don't think these are shared universes). The cast includes Jaime King and Brighton Sharbino, with appearances by Sol Rodriguez, Roger Guenveur Smith, Eric Edelstein, and Martin Starr. This looks totally wacky and biting (no pun intended) and comedic in the weirdest of ways. Worth a quick look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Marianna Palka's Bitch,...

"I don't want to lose my best friend..." Good Deed Entertainment has revealed a trailer for a charming coming-of-age indie comedy titled Growing Up Smith, about a 10-year-old Indian boy living in America. Newcomer Roni Akurati plays Smith Bhatnagar, a likable youngster growing up in America in the late 70s with his Indian family. He falls for the girl next door, and goes all-in chasing her every way he can. The cast includes Brighton Sharbino as his love interest, plus Jason Lee, Anjul Nigam, Hilarie Burton, Poorna Jagannathan, Shoba Narayanan and Jake Busey. This looks adorable and amusing, but doesn't seem like anything to really write home about. But I'm always up for a good coming-of-age film. Give this a shot. Last year, The Walking Dead strained the patience of fans with one ratings gimmick after another. First, there was the incredulous Dumpster incident where Glenn survived (because zombies never go for the face?), then there was Daryl getting shot with his own crossbow. And finally, the coup de grâce, the cliffhanger of “Who did Negan kill?” that gave audiences 202 days to both speculate on the victim’s identity and become desensitized to the inevitability. Things became so dire that HitFix’s own Alan Sepinwall washed his hands of the show completely. Warning: Spoilers From Season 7 Of The Walking Dead Beyond This Point. I was still tentatively on board. The Walking Dead has pulled itself out of bad decisions in the past and after sinking six years into this relationship, I wasn’t willing to walk away just yet. Until after the Season 7 premiere. Now it’s official. I’m breaking up with The Walking Dead.

The world of The Walking Dead is a cruel one. That’s the lesson its showrunners have impressed upon viewers time and again through six seasons of Walker attacks, bloody beheadings, surprise crossbow bolts to the brain, and—how could we not mention it—bludgeonings by psychopaths wielding barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bats.
That’s why you won’t find much fun in the selection below. The Walking Dead isn’t really a birthday-parties-and-puppies kind of place; it’s more a viscera-and-machine gun sort of deal.

Miracles from Heaven means well, and I mean that sincerely. It promises an uplifting, feel-good story about the nobility of paying-it-forward, doing right by your neighbors and the power of faith and adversity against the hardships of the world. And believe it or not, it doesn’t necessarily feel like a gospel lesson in the process.
Unlike its hokey, sermon-heavy evangelical cinematic peers like God’s Not Dead or Heaven is for Real, there’s an honest, hard-wrought underlining integrity to the film earned by respectable performances from Jennifer Garner, Martin Henderson, Kylie Rogers John Carroll Lynch and Eugenio Derbez.
It’s melodramatic at times, sure. In fact, a lot of the time, as its never truly prone to subtlety. But there’s an occasional moment of raw emotional intensity, or genuinely affecting physical turmoil, that doesn’t often feel as cheap or manipulative as you’d think. In the right contexts,...

Faith-based films may be on the rise in Hollywood, but for “Miracles From Heaven” star Brighton Sharbino, faith is part of everyday life. “I feel so blessed that I’ve gotten to work on ‘Miracles From Heaven’ and all these amazing films,” the actress told TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell in a recent interview. “Every day is a miracle to me.” The actress stars alongside Jennifer Garner, Martin Henderson and Queen Latifah in Patricia Riggen’s film about a family whose daughter Anna (Kylie Rogers) is miraculously cured of a mysterious disease following a fall from a tree. The Walking Dead “Strangers” opened with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Tara (Alanna Masterson) making amends, as the former has decided not to hold the latter's past association with the Governor against her. More mercy is shown towards Carol (Melissa McBride) by Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman), who has accepted the fact that she killed Karen (Melissa Ponzio). As for what happened with Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) and Mika (Kyla Kenedy), Tyreese would rather forget about it.
'The Walking Dead' Recap
After his chat with Tara, Rick seeks out Carol, looking to make amends for exiling her from the group upon learning that she’d taken Karen’s fate into her own hands. Carol, not inclined to remain bitter, acknowledges that she was able to survive, just like he’d predicted. When Rick asks her if she’s willing to rejoin the group, she nods.

Since its arrival, the zombie apocalypse horror-drama has seen much success but from where I stood, it appeared that the show was struggling a bit with capturing the little things that made its graphic novel so hard-hitting, nasty and just a hell of a story, with well-rounded characters.
To me, it seems The Walking Dead has improved a little more with those details with each season that comes. Is this perhaps due to the shift of showrunners over the past three seasons? Seeing as though when Frank Darabont exited as showrunner after season one, Glen Mazzara took over until he himself exited after season three, leading Scott Gimple to assume the role for this fourth season.
Regardless of what played out behind the scenes, the 16 episodes that make up this rather effective fourth season sees The Walking Dead at its best yet, correcting past...

Do you like zombies and hate cancer? If so, then Zombie Apocalypse II “Cancer fears the D!” is an event you’d likely dig. Taking place in Detroit at the Tangent Gallery/Hastings Street Ballroom on June 28th, this event benefits the American Cancer Society via The Walking Hope. In addition to an abundance of entertainment for a good cause, fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead should be really excited by one of the items up for auction at the fundraiser.
While enjoyers of the The Walking Dead have been able to get autographs from a good amount of the cast over the past year or so at conventions, even the most die-hard fans would be hard-pressed to get an item signed by 25 people affiliated with the hit AMC show. We caught up with Brighton Sharbino last month to talk about her role on The Walking Dead Season 4, but that took place before her big part in Episode 414, which was easily one of this season’s best episodes. Our friends over at The Walking Dead Cast recently interviewed Brighton and plenty of discussion took place around that episode, so we wanted to give our readers some of the highlights:
When you are playing Lizzie and as long as they’re not being super aggressive, if they are just hanging around, what does Lizzie see when she looks at a zombie?
Brighton Sharbino: I think that Lizzie sees them like people, not like a specific person, but in one episode she said that there was someone or something… she still thinks they are somewhat alive. I think it’s a hard concept for her, where her hard-wiring doesn’t wrap...

Sunday's (March 16) episode of "The Walking Dead" was about as perfect an episode as the show has ever had. That can be owed in large part to the phenomenal performance of Melissa McBride, who has had an exceptionally amazing season this year.
It's wonderful to look back and see how much McBride has developed Carol from Season 1. She's one of the few original characters still on the show, but unlike Rick and Glenn, she was never a fan favorite. It's taken McBride's strong portrayal of Carol to turn her into someone who is arguably the most engaging and interesting character on the show.
"The Walking Dead" isn't a series that gets much awards buzz, even though it's increasingly critically acclaimed. It won an Emmy for special effects in 2012 and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2011 for Best Drama Series, but the actors have never been recognized. This year, that...

It’s The Walking Dead episode that has everyone talking, and now the woman at the center of it all — Melissa McBride, who plays Carol — gives her take on the events of last night’s episode, “The Grove.” [Spoiler Alert: Read on only if you have already watched Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead.]
Carol made another controversial decision last night, shooting her “adopted” daughter Lizzie in the head after Lizzie stabbed and killed her sister Mika to prove that she would come back to life. “We can’t sleep with her and Judith under the same roof,” Carol told Tyreese before going through with it. “She can’t be around other people.” And that was that.

*a few spoilers for the episode here. Director:Michael Satrazemcs. Writer: Scott M. Gimple. Cast: Melissa McBride, Chad L. Coleman, Brighton Sharbino and Kyla Kenedy. Season 4 showrunner Scott M. Gimple wrote the fourtienth episode of "The Walking Dead," titled "The Grove." Gimple, in this viewer's opinion, has a great knack for finding a theme and running with it. Tonight's theme dealt with how a stressful situation e.g. a zombie apocalypse can affect children. Some rise to the challenge in a psychopathic way, while others fall apart. Both personality types did not do well in "The Grove." And, this episode brought a lot of bloody drama to a fairly static episode. This episode stuck with one story in the zombie apocalypse. Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman), Carol (Melissa McBride), Mika (Kyla Kenedy) and Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) are still heading up the railway tracks to Terminus. They find shelter in an old farmhouse,...
