The Super Bowl is coming, guys. This means it’s time to do the Super Bowl Shuffle. Don’t know how? Let this bizarre group of comedians, indie musicians, and Internet cats teach you how. Louisville radio host Sean Cannon assembled the team to cover the 1985 Chicago Bears classic to raise money to benefit Reading Is Fundamental. You can purchase it here and/or listen to it below. You’ll hear Lil Bub, David Wain, Comedy Bang! Bang!’s Scott Aukerman, Tom Scharpling, My Morning Jacket's Jim James (on sax), Les Savy Fav's Tim Harrington, comedian Kyle Kinane, Dave Hill, Man Man's Honus Honus, the Long Winters' John Roderick, and wrestler Colt Cabana. It’s so bad, you know it’s good.

Here’s a contradictory sentence: Ty Segall sleeps. If you’re familiar with the prolific garage god, you’ll find that hilarious. If not, then you’ll have to get in on the joke. Ty Segall, 26, is a garage rock pioneer who has made more than a dozen albums with the various bands (eight or nine?) he’s been in. He’s also working on his solo career, which has acclaimed albums Lemons, Twins, and Horn The Unicorn. Over the years, Segall has been touring, recording, and probably touring and recording at the same time with literally no time to sleep. So, there, you’re now in on the joke.
Sleeper, the hard worker’s latest, is a bit of a creative anomaly for Segall – one not even his closest fans could even predict. It’s highly ironic and completely unorthodox. It’s also incredible from start to finish,...

Grandchildren began as a solo project for Philadelphia musician Aleks Martray, who layered his acoustic guitar with a loop pedal. Since its inception in 2008 the band has evolved to a six piece, releasing their latest album Golden Age just last week. Golden Age was produced by Chris Powell (Man Man) and Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog), and the album draws on Martray’s many moves as a child of the military. ""I think when you live and travel all over the world from such a young age your mind constructs a sort of map that is an amalgamation of all of...

Given the obvious wealth of compatibility between Mister Heavenly’s main players—Man Man’s Ryan Kattner, Islands’ Nick Thorburn, and Modest Mouse’s Joe Plummer—it’s none too surprising that the band’s first full-length release, Out Of Love, opens with the sound of a Man Man/Islands hybrid moving to Plummer’s pneumatic beats. Lest anyone criticize the feral stomp of “Bronx Sniper” as the sound of Mister Heavenly resting on its death-obsessed laurels, the album quickly transitions into the most curious entry into the ongoing retro-r&B sweepstakes, an experiment in doomed romance and skeletal pop ...

The Senate’s new Super Committee apparently has incredible powers to manage that nagging debt problem. Jon Stewart identifies the comics-ready cast, including: Harry Reid, The Senator Drone, with a superpowered bow tie; Chuck Schumer, Prof. Kvetch, “drowning out opponents with his supersonic whine,” and Old-Man Man John McCain. He rounds out this clip by showing news reports about a poll that says Americans think members of Congress have been acting like “spoiled children.” True enough, but that says more about the categories those poll-creators amuse themselves with than it does about the debt wrangling. Why not ask if we think…...

Jackson Rathbone has been a busy guy these days between touring with his band, 100 Monkeys, and getting some acting in as well. Here Jackson talks to The Hollywood Reporter about his music, starting his own label and singing with Nikki Reed’s fiance, Paul McDonald. Read more after the jump:
THR: Having your music tie in, you probably pay close attention to the soundtrack of your movies. Could you tell me your favorite songs from the Twilight series?
Jr: You know, that would be really hard. It’s one of those things. I don’t run out and buy the soundtrack. I have seen the films and they are amazing with the songs in there. Radiohead, there is an amazing band the Twilight series has been able to garnish for their soundtrack, it’s all good music. The kind of music I listen to is very eclectic and out there, you got some Captain Beefheart, Man Man, or Frank Zapra. The kind of stuff that you know I really, if they put that on there, I might rush out and buy the album.
THR: If you had to choose one, I know this is a tough question, would it be music or acting?
Jr: I think I would just be a father then, in that case. If I had to make the choice between arts, I might just have to move back to Texas and just raise the family. I know I could never just do one.

Man Man’s silliness has always tended to exceed its music in terms of captivation. Sure, the records blaze by with unorthodox flash — but repeat visits tend to scrape away their idiosyncrasies. Luckily, the band’s preserved itself with a walloping live act and a self-imposed mythology; we are talking about a quartet of Honus Honus, Pow Pow, T. Moth and Chang Wang, after all....

There’s a hint of sarcasm in the title of Life Fantastic, the fourth full-length by Philadelphia art-rock polymorph Man Man. In a literal sense, the album is as stuffed with sounds and images as 2008’s Rabbit Habits. But there are also plenty of indicators that leader Ryan “Honus Honus” Kattner hasn’t been finding life all that fantastic lately. In spite of its slaphappy, Zappa-like vibe, “Piranhas Club” bristles with giddily bloodthirsty revenge scenarios; on “Shameless,” Kattner solicits drug-induced release—euphoria or euthanasia, it’s unclear—from his doctor after delivering the self-diagnosis, “I’m a wrecking ball ...

On Tuesday (February 15), organizers announced the lineup for the 2011 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, set for June 9-12 in Manchester, Tennessee. And, boy, it's going to be interesting to hear the purists' take on this year's bill.

Unlike earlier, decidedly crunchy editions of the fest, the 2011 lineup is topped by two of the hugest hip-hop acts in the business — Eminem and Lil Wayne — along with newly crowned Grammy champs Arcade Fire and the Black Keys. Other acts on the bill include Mumford & Sons, the Strokes, the Decemberists, Florence and the Machine, Big Boi, Wiz Khalifa and Robyn.
Of course, there are still some nods to Bonnaroo's roots: Fest vets Widespread Panic return once again, as do My Morning Jacket and the String Cheese Incident.

Happy Chinese New Year, everybody! From now until January 23, 2012, consider it the Year of the Rabbit (with the Year of the Tiger having just wrapped and the Year of the Dragon on the horizon). In China, the celebration of the new year is a 15-day affair, so hang out your red lanterns (to ward off the mythical man-eating beast Nian) and prepare to party.
The 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig) are each meant to inform the personalities of the people born during their particular years. People born during the Year of the Rabbit (which includes anybody born in 1975, 1987 and 1999) tend to be soft-spoken, sensitive, artistic and reserved. But which celebrities are denizens of the Rabbit? The list from 1975 includes 50 Cent, Eva Longoria, Enrique Iglesias, Jack White, "Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks, 2010 MTV Video Music Awards host Chelsea Handler...

Mister Heavenly, the wonder bunch comprised of Man Man's Honus Honus, Modest Mouse's Joe Plummer, and Islands/Unicorns' Nick Thorburn, with Michael "Scott Pilgrim" Cera thrown in on bass, just released a free digital single. It's got two doom wop tracks on it, "Mister Heavenly" and "Pineapple Girl."
The band will be playing two cities this weekend they have not yet visited -- first Chicago tonight, January 14th, at Lincoln Hall and New York City January 16th, at Bowery Ballroom. Subpop notes that the shows this weekend "yes, will feature the same line up as their Dec 2010 touring stint with Passion Pit." Hint, hint, that means Michael Cera's still touring with the band.

Michael Cera's transformation is complete. He started out as an obscure comic actor, made several movies, and then graduated into a full-fledged cool band dude that owns every Magnetic Fields album. Success! Cera will play bass guitar in Mister Heavenly, the newly-signed Sub-Pop band with members formerly of Modest Mouse, Islands and Man Man. The pedigree is rich. There will be no Cera-bashing here. The guy doesn't deserve it. Young people that find success doing exactly what they do, or pursuing creative projects that fit their molds perfectly (gross?) don't need to be the butt of one million hoodie jokes. That being said, Cera might be a garbage guitarist. I don't know! I liked his acoustic project a few years ago, The Long Goodbye, which basically amounted to a few decent songs he wrote with a comedy buddy. Watch this clip of Cera's first [...]...

Mister Heavenly is the modestly named new band comprised of Modest Mouse's Joe Plummer, Islands' Nick Thorburn, and Man Man frontman Honus Honus, aka Ryan Kattner. They just played their debut show Tuesday night in Seattle and then hit Portland Wednesday night, each time joined by Michael "Scott Pilgrim" Cera on bass.
Cera's really going all out for indie rock type casting, after his roles in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" and "Scott Pilgrim." And don't forget his admittedly adorable duet with Ellan Page in "Juno." It seems to be working out pretty well.
As for his role with Mister Heavenly, he's slated to join them on their entire first tour, but it's not clear that he's an official member of the band. "They call their genre 'doom-wop' -- 'low frequency, extremely slowed-down music atop traditional doo wop harmonies,' Nick Thorburn explained to The Guardian, "'or something."'...

Fresh off his stint as a fictional bassist in a terrible band in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Michael Cera has become a real bassist in an awesome-sounding band called Mister Heavenly. The band is a sort of indie rock who’s-who with members of Man Man, Islands, and Modest Mouse, and they’re currently on tour with Passion Pit. You can be certain that this is the most Pitchfork-y, indie thing we’ll ever write. Cera played his first live show with the band this week in Seattle and plans to travel with them for the duration of the tour. The band, who is signed to Sub-Pop records, says he’s not an official member, he’s just working with them for this tour, so don’t worry, he’s not going all Jared Leto-30 Seconds To Mars on us and forget his acting altogether. Michael Cera is an accomplished young actor whose career highlights include the cult television classic "Arrested Development" as well as starring roles in films like "Superbad," "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" and the just-released-on-Bluray "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World." Many of those movies are music-centric, and in "Scott Pilgrim," Cera even plays a bassist in a band. Now he is taking that fiction into the real world, as Cera has joined the indie supergroup Mister Heavenly as their bassist. The group made its debut on Tuesday night (November 30) at a club in Seattle, and they have signed a deal with legendary indie Sub Pop. The band is fleshed out by Canadian mastermind Nick Thorburn (of Islands and Unicorns fame), Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse) and Ryan Kattner (also known as Honus Honus of Man Man).

The indie world just imploded. Michael Cera is now the touring bassist in the indie supergroup Mister Heavenly. The band features Man Man’s Honus Honus, Islands’ Nick Thorburn, and Modest Mouse’s Joe Plummer. Pitchfork presents us with video of the band playing in Portland. Cera is in the red hat. Warning: Underwhelming video Cera-wise, as it is sort of light on Cera. But you do get the idea. Also, great song! Did I say “underwhelming”? I take it back. I’m going to give this a “whelming.” Did you see how aggressively Cera picks that bass? Every note counts. He also seems to be having an unabashed good time. As well he should. That’s a pretty sweet gig. Could the amount of indie ass thrown his way have possibly doubled? Good for you, Cera? Most importantly, he seems to be wearing the same hat pictured in this photo,...

We usually don’t put out news articles aimed at individual people, but today we had to make an exception. Austin's Fun Fun Fest added a third day to it's usual two day program, just when you thought there was no more room on Austin's calendar. The line up is decidedly more noteworthy than past years too, with The Hold Steady and de-evolution pioneer Mark Mothersbaugh and crew on board. I look forward to the children's book he grandly announced on twitter [New yorker].
Weird Al Twittered: "Like Madonna, Hitler and @michaelianblack, I've written a children's book. Out next year on HarperCollins."
Other notables on the line up this year at Fff Fest include: Mgmt, Dirty Projectors, Best Coast, Man Man, Bad Religion, Gwar, Mastodon and RJD2.
Founder Graham Williams has proclaimed, "My cup funneth over." The festival is held November 5 - 7, 2010 at Waterloo Park in Austin, TX.
