“Young and the Restless” star Tracey Bregman has her Daytime Emmy back. The star’s original Emmy was destroyed in 2018 when she lost her house during Malibu’s Woolsey Fire. As she appeared Tuesday on CBS’ “The Talk,” Bregman was surprised with a replacement statue from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Bregman won her Emmy back in 1985 for the category that was then known as Outstanding Ingenue/Woman in a Drama Series. She appeared on “The Talk” to help celebrate her 40th anniversary on the show (which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year). Her on-screen husband, Christian Le Blanc, made a special appearance to surprise her with the new Emmy.
“It has been one of the most extraordinary and heartfelt experiences of my career,” Bregman said. “I tried not to go into the “ugly cry” in the air. Thanks to my ‘Young and Restless’ family, NATAS,...

Few people working in television feel the ebb and flow of market dynamics as keenly as international distributors. These executives are on the ground of market consolidation and buyers’ fluctuating fortunes — harsh realities that can have a deep impact on what they can acquire and sell. Today, distributors are more than just traders of shows — they’re a significant part of the production process and in talks as early as conception stage in order to provide the financing many international dramas rely on to become a reality. Yet as a recession looms and the perennial streaming partners of recent years quietly put their purses away to recalibrate their strategies, how are distributors conducting business? Why are we seeing so much distributor consolidation? (Banijay acquired Beyond International just weeks after this discussion took place.)
Variety’s inaugural international TV distribution roundtable delved into these questions. Participants included Jens Richter, Fremantle Intl.

Warning: spoilers for The Politician below!
The Politician manages to pack in so much drama in eight episodes that it's easy to forget the show's biggest storyline: the class presidency. Ben Platt's Payton Hobart, a senior at a Santa Barbara, CA, high school, spends the first season solely focused on gaining this position of power at his school, to the point of unhealthy obsession. Landing the presidency is barely even the first step in his long-term plan to become president of the United States, which also includes getting into Harvard and marrying his long-time girlfriend, Alice (Julia Schlaepfer). But when he finally gets the presidency he's been fighting for, the victory is a hollow one, and it's all because of the relentless drama that precedes it.

On Netflix's latest dark comedy, The Politician, ambitious high schooler Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) finds an unlikely friend in the cancer-stricken wallflower Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutch), a girl from the wrong side of the tracks with only her Grandma Dusty (Jessica Lange) to care for her. But there is a lot more going on with the Jackson family than meets the eye . . . so much so that it bears a striking resemblance to the Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blanchard case from a few years ago. How closely does art imitate life? Here's what to know.

In 2015, police found the body of Dee Dee Blanchard outside her home near Springfield, Mo. She had been stabbed multiple times and her physically and mentally disabled daughter, Gypsy Rose, was missing from their home. According to neighbors and friends, Dee Dee had always told...

It’s been a while since Ryan Murphy had a little fun, hasn’t it? After spending the past few years on very worthy but decidedly serious fare like The Assassination of Gianni Versace and Pose, he’s now firmly back in Glee territory with The Politician — premiering this Friday on Netflix; I’ve seen five of the eight episodes — a lighthearted satire that combines Murphy’s signature acid-tongued wit with a quirky refinement that recalls the films of Wes Anderson. In fact, if you can imagine Anderson’s Rushmore remade by Murphy, with a bit of Election sprinkled in for good measure,...

Is Ryan Murphy trolling gay culture vultures? It appears to be so. The latest teaser for “The Politician,” Emmy-winner Murphy’s first Netflix series as part of a new pact with the streamer, boasts gay icons for days. Check out a new spot from the series, which debuted during the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards telecast.
As previously announced, Judith Light (Emmy-nominated last year for Murphy’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”) and Bette Midler, stepping into Murphyland for the first time, have joined the cast. The lineup also includes Broadway star Ben Platt and Gwyneth Paltrow in the leads, opposite Bob Balaban, Lucy Boynton, Benjamin Barrett, Zoey Deutch, Dylan McDermott, and, of course, Jessica Lange as a gimlet-eyed whippersnapper named Dusty Jackson.
A 2017 Tony Award winner for Best Actor for the hit musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” Platt plays a well-to-do high-schooler with aspirations of becoming president of the United States.

Netflix has shared the first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s comedy series The Politician, and this series is set in the crazy and cutthroat world of high school politics. This obviously isn’t how high school politics really is, but the way it’s presented in this series certainly makes it a lot more interesting and entertaining! The trailer managed to get me interested enough to check it out when it’s released.

Political fights are no stranger to the halls of high school, but Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix series is looking to take that escalating conflict a few bloody steps further with his new series “The Politician.”
“Dear Even Hansen” breakout Ben Platt tackles his first major series role as Payton Hobart, a fatally ambitious high school student whose plans to rule the student body are just a stepping stone on the way to ruling the country. Along the way, he works as an Asb fixer of sorts, sniffing out problematic running mates and trying to crush his rivals at every turn.
Along the way, he’ll have to contend not only with students, but the adults in their orbit, namely Rose (Jessica Lange). It appears as if what begins as a simple race to sway the school quickly turns into a literal bloody battle to control hearts and minds. It...

While the details about the majority of those films and series are being kept under wraps in the most Murphy-like way, TheWrap has rounded up everything we currently know about the projects that have been formally announced.

Ryan Murphy's first Netflix series, The Politician, now has a release date and a fully confirmed cast.
Ryan Murphy, never one to be accused of having too few concurrent television projects, has procured a platform for yet another series. This time, Murphy’s work will manifest as an hour-long comedy, called The Politician, which has just landed a comfortable home for itself on Netflix. The series, which is set to spend each season trailing the comical and satirical career of a fictional pol played by Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen) has been shaping up with an impressive all-star cast that continues to grow.
The Politician was previously the center of a weeklong bidding war amongst streaming outlets such as Amazon and Hulu, but of course wound up with Netflix. Already the recipient of a two-season straight-to-series order, The Politician is a collaborative creation of Murphy and regular colleagues,...
