Terry Press is officially reuniting with Steven Spielberg.
Amblin Partners has tapped the veteran and widely regarded Hollywood studio executive in the newly created role of president of strategy and communications. The announcement was made jointly by Amblin founder Spielberg and CEO Jeff Small.
In the newly created role, Press will join the executive team and will oversee the strategy and execution of all elements of marketing, publicity, consumer products and communication strategy for the film and television divisions of Amblin Partners and Spielberg. She is not filling the job vacated recently by top corporate communications exec Dan Berger.
Press — known for her wit and sharp eye — served as head of marketing for a decade at DreamWorks Skg, the now-defunct studio launched by Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg. She oversaw the campaigns for Saving Private Ryan and best picture winners American Beauty, Gladiator and Universal’s A Beautiful Mind.

What a difference two years and a global pandemic make. Steven Spielberg, who a couple of years ago was quoted — his camp maintains he never said it or anything he might have said was severely taken out of context — drawing a clear line between theatrically released films and streamer films, has berthed his Amblin Partners into a partnership with Netflix that will cover multiple new feature films per year. It shows once again the Netflix-led progress toward dissolving the lines between streamed and theatrical films and symbolically it is a big deal for Netflix’s Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber.
The Netflix deal will co-exist side by side with the one Spielberg and Amblin have at Universal Pictures. Neither will have first shot at Amblin properties; Spielberg will make some films for Universal, and others to be made for Netflix. The expectation is that Amblin will generate multiple films per year for Netflix,...

Steven Spielberg’s global film and television studio Amblin Partners has announced a pact with Netflix that will cover multiple feature films per year. The deal, which will team Amblin and Netflix on select projects, will add to the big streamer’s deepening relationship with Hollywood studios.
Amblin chairman Steven Spielberg, in a statement shared with media, said: “At Amblin, storytelling will forever be at the center of everything we do, and from the minute Ted [Sarandos] and I started discussing a partnership, it was abundantly clear that we had an amazing opportunity to tell new stories together and reach audiences in new ways. This new avenue for our films, alongside the stories we continue to tell with our longtime family at Universal and our other partners, will be incredibly fulfilling for me personally since we get to embark on it together with Ted, and I can’t wait to get started with him,...

Amblin Partners and Netflix have forged a partnership, one that will see the company headed by Steven Spielberg produce multiple new feature films for the streaming service every year. The pact gives Netflix access to one of the most legendary directors in the movie business at a time when competition in the streaming space is growing fiercer with the launch of Disney Plus, HBO Max and other challengers.
The move is surprising and a sign of the major changes taking place in Hollywood, in part because Spielberg has previously been seen as something of a Netflix skeptic. In 2019, for instance, the director reportedly urged the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to bar day-and-date streaming releases from being eligible for Oscars. Sources close to the director, however, dispute that Spielberg ever tried to bar Netflix from eligibility. He later clarified his position in a statement to The New York Times,...

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and Netflix announced a partnership on Monday that will cover multiple new feature films per year.
No titles were immediately announced as part of the deal, but Netflix and Amblin recently collaborated on the 2020 Academy Award Best Picture nominee “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” They’re also collaborating on Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein film “Maestro,” which is currently in pre-production. Amblin is however keeping its theatrical agreement it already has with Universal.

Amblin Partners has signed a multi-year film distribution partnership with Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, as well as forged a series of new agreements that will expedite the company’s move into streaming.
The pact is in the five-year range, according to insiders, similar to Amblin’s previous deal with the studio, which was inked in 2015. The company had previously partnered on distribution of its films with the Walt Disney Company when it operated under the DreamWorks banner. Universal and Amblin have a history together. The studio been the home of many of Amblin founder Steven Spielberg’s biggest hits, including “Jurassic Park” and “Jaws.”
“My decades-long relationship with Universal truly transcends any single business deal, and to once again renew our corporate vows reaffirms that Universal is Amblin’s home,” Spielberg said in a statement.
The new deal also ends Amblin’s relationship with Participant, which had been a backer of the company.
