The race to be top of the British singles chart at Christmas has been an annual event every December since 1952.
On Friday 23, LadBaby broke a record they were previously tied for with The Beatles, achieving their fifth consecutive Christmas No 1.
The Beatles had been top of the tree since 1967 with a record four Christmas number ones, although that was equalled last year when LadBaby claimed their fourth win in four years with an offering called “Sausage Rolls for Everyone”.
LadBaby have now vaulted to the top with their fifth No 1, “Food Aid”.
The Spice Girls also notched an impressive three consecutive victories in the mid-Nineties, while Sir Cliff Richard also has a hat-trick to his name.
LadBaby, Aka Mark and Roxanne Hoyle, are actually having another crack at it in 2022, with the help of ever popular money-saving guru Martin Lewis, who, rather suprisingly, is joining them for a chairty cover...

For a few moments back in 2010, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson were failed talent-show contestants. But the U.K.’s The X Factor couldn’t let them go, and they instantly re-entered the competition as a group, which turned out to be a pretty smart idea, even if One Direction didn’t actually win (a singer-songwriter named Matt Cardle somehow beat them). For a potential 2012 Rolling Stone cover story on One Direction that never ran, Simon Cowell — a judge on The X Factor, as...

Has Ed Sheeran found himself in hot water over his 2014 single "Thinking Out Loud,"? The British singer is being sued by the family of Ed Townsend - co-writer of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" - who have accused Sheeran, 25, of stealing the melody, harmony, and rhythm composition of Gaye's 1973 hit, TMZ reports. A rep for Sheeran did not immediately respond to People's request for comment. Townsend's family weren't the only ones to allege similarities between the songs. Ed Sheeran has an unlikely ally in the $20 million copyright lawsuit against him over the song “Photograph.” “The X Factor” winner Matt Cardle, whose song “Amazing” Sheeran is accused of stealing, jumped to Sheeran’s defense on Thursday, calling him a “genius.” “Please read news articles closely. This is not my lawsuit,” Cardle wrote on Twitter. “I think @edsheeran is a genius & 100% deserves all his success.” Also Read: Ed Sheeran Slapped With $20 Million Copyright Lawsuit Over 'Photograph' Cardle’s collaborators on “Amazing” would beg to differ. Two songwriters have sued Ed Sheeran for more than $20 million, claiming that the British singer's hit song "Photograph" bears a "striking similarity" to a song they penned for a onetime winner of The X Factor, according to multiple reports. Martin Harrington and Tom Leonard filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on Wednesday, alleging Sheeran's hit sounds suspiciously similar to a 2012 song released by British singer Matt Cardle, who won the seventh season of X Factor. They're seeking a jury trial and damages in excess of $20 million, as well as royalties from the song. According to Harrington and Leonard, the chorus...

Ever since Marvin Gaye’s family won a court case against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over “Blurred Lines,” it seems the music industry has become even more litigious than ever.
Case in point- Ed Sheeran is now being sued by HaloSongs because they claim his song “Photograph” is a “note-for-note” copy of Matt Cardle’s “Amazing.”
Upon listening to both tracks, only the chorus can be counted as similar, though Ed’s line “Wait for me to come home,” finds no parallel in Cardle’s ditty. However, according to the complaint, "The songs' similarities reach the very essence of the work. The similarities go beyond substantial, which is itself sufficient to establish copyright infringement, and are in fact striking. The similarity of words, vocal style, vocal melody, melody and rhythm are clear indicators, among other things, that 'Photograph' copies 'Amazing.'"...

Picture this, Ed Sheeran: You’re being sued over your song “Photograph.” Sheeran has been slapped with a $20 million lawsuit filed by a pair of songwriters who claim that the 2014 tune infringes on their 2009 ditty “Amazing,” which served as the basis for the song of the same name by Matt Cardle, the 2010 winner of “The X Factor.” In the suit, filed Wednesday in federal court in California, Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard claim that the infringement took place “on a breathtaking scale,” including “verbatim, note-for-note copying.” According to the suit, the alleged infringement makes up “nearly one half of ‘Photograph.

Ed Sheeran's hit song "Photograph" is a total rip-off ... according to a new lawsuit filed by two songwriters. According to legal docs, Sheeran's "Photograph" blatantly copied huge chunks from the song "Amazing," written by Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard for 'X Factor' season 7 winner Matt Cardle. Interesting to note ... the songwriters hired the same attorneys that won a $7.4 million judgment against Robin Thicke and Pharrell's "Blurred Lines." They're suing for copyright...

Maybe it's the pressure. Or the hot stage lights. Or the tantalising proximity of Simon's high-waisted trousers. But it wouldn't be a series of The X Factor without rumours of romances. Already this year we've had the usual nudges and winks wiggling their way out from Boot Camp.

The Great British Bake Off's final was the biggest original TV show in almost five years.
The consolidated ratings show that 15.1 million (a 55.8% share) tuned in to see Nadiya Hussain win (via Broadcast).
That makes it the biggest non-sport event on TV since 17.7 million watched Matt Cardle win The X Factor in December 2010.
The final was also BBC One's highest-rated show since 16.4m (57%) watched an episode of EastEnders on February 19, 2010.
The Great British Bake Off frequently topped the UK TV ratings throughout its run, with overnight figures of 13.4 million viewers for the final previously released.
As the show has been so successful, Mary Berry has announced plans for a second attempt at remaking it in the Us for ABC.

We're down to our final three on The X Factor - Andrea, Ben, and Fleur, in case you've somehow missed the news - and the final is just days away. Days. But of course the one thing we all want to know is what the winner's single will be - is it going to be a surprise triumph or a horrific failure?
All this speculation got us looking back at the X Factor winner's singles of the past - the good, the bad, the terrible. And, of course, we just had to rank them, didn't we? Read on for our view of how they all stack up...
10. 'Hallelujah' - Alexandra Burke
One thing we discovered when we began this ranking is that the quality of the winner's single is no reflection of the quality of the artist. Take this monstrosity. Alexandra is obviously hugely talented and could have had an amazing first record.

He said: ''There is different reasons I like different seasons. I think because this one has been so fun from the beginning to now - it is one of my favourites. ''But the year we had Katie Waissel, Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction and Cher...

The boy band were formed by Simon Cowell on the pop star search show in 2010, going on to finish in third position behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. Louis Walsh had some bolts on his neck. Mel B and Cheryl growled at the camera, and Simon Cowell attempted to move his latest round of Botox by raising his eyebrows. Yes, it was a truly horrifying Halloween edition of The X Factor - although perhaps not for the right reasons.
A large amount of the 'Fright Night' special was spent building up the tension about a spooky, scary twist. It was hard to get too excited about the "shocking" twist for two reasons.
1. We were all told about it on Friday. It was on the front page of The Sun, for heaven's sake.
2. The twist was a person being eliminated. This Happens Every Week. It's not even remotely exciting.
After a decade on air, every possible twist and alteration to the mechanism of voting off singers week by week has been and gone. So it's probably about...

Fleur East is being advised by J.B. Gill. The 'X Factor' hopeful has already attracted some former contestants, including the 2008 runner-up - who was a member of boy band Jls - and 2010 winner Matt Cardle. In an interview with Hello! magazine she said: ''Matt Cardle has messaged me, given me some encouragement. ''Also J.B. from Jls, who is a very good friend of mine, has been advising me.'' Fleur is mentored by show chief Simon Cowell and appreciates the advice he gives and is thankful that he ''has her back''. She added: ''He's the boss man and he knows what he's talking...

The X Factor 2014 started its Live Shows with a No.1s Week theme. It's almost as if they wanted us to make the obvious joke about there being a large steaming pile of No.2s on the Fountain Studios stage. But we wouldn't be that crass.
It feels too early to be overly harsh about the Class of Series 11 - we've got a couple more months of this to endure yet - and this wasn't the worst crop of X Factor contestants we've ever been gifted. The real problem with this weekend's shows was that it felt like we'd seen it all before. About 10 times before, to be precise.
Simon Cowell couldn't even be bothered to tuck his shirt in on Saturday night's show, which pretty much embodied the shoulder shrug attitude from the producers and judges this year. Will this do? I guess it will have to, because it's this or the bloody Voice.

Everyone knows that the best week of X Factor every year is Judges House. Don't talk to us about Six Chair Challenges, this is the real deal.
Blending heartbreak, tears, Sinitta dressed in only some palm leaves and ludicrous Louis Walsh decisions, it's a microcosm of the entire show squeezed into one handy bite-size chunk of weekend telly.
But who deserves to make the cut and who should be going home on an EasyJet flight from Barbados with nothing more than a Dermot O'Leary hug to comfort them?
Here are the Top 12 acts who we believe must make the Live Shows.
The Boys
1. Andrea Faustini
First name on the team sheet. This Italian pug-lover simply has to be in Mel B's Top 3. His rendition of 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength' at Boot Camp left us a blubbering wreck and he's also the No.1 contestant we would most like to give a cuddle.

After only four weeks of X Factor we're already starting to develop unhealthy obsessions with acts that we love and acts that we love to hate.
Next month we'll be heading to the Live Shows and we've already got a good idea of who we'd love to see getting a glitzy makeover and a bellowing Peter Dickson introduction.
Here are 9 acts we'd love to see every Saturday night this autumn.
1. Raign
Cheryl Cole's Kryptonite and nemesis, Raign is about as naturally likeable as a sharp kick in your naughty bits. But that's also what makes her so incredibly perfect for the Live Shows.
With an ego that would make even Simon Cowell blush, this melodramatic eccentric is exactly the sort of person the show's missed in recent years. Put it this way, we'd rather have Raign than a dozen Nicholas McDonalds.
2. Jake Quickenden

Fame Academy may only have lasted two series, but boy, did it burn bright. And even though it was over ten years ago that it was on our screens, we're still belting out David Sneddon's utter tune 'Stop Living The Lie' at our DS karaoke sessions.

As a country, England is going through something of a rough patch. The combined effects of economic instability, a distrust of our politicians and the typically bad English weather have all led to our little island going through a turbulent few years. To make matters worse, England’s woeful World Cup stint meant that even the prospect of some footballing heroics in Brazil wouldn’t lift our spirits.
House prices may be sky-high and the football squad may end up coming back from Brazil without a single victory but this shouldn’t mean that we lose faith in our country and the many great things it stands for. From the trivial to the grand, the comic to the magnificent; there are many things to love about our sceptered isle – this is what keeps us loving our country in spite of its atrocious weather, political...

It was nervous and shellshocked Big Brother contestants who used to be told "it's all panto", but the phrase could just as easily apply to The X Factor. The singing behemoth has always been an over-the-top production, a ludicrous parade of contestants and a fantasy world of dance routines and sparkly outfits. To be honest, that's part of why we love it - it just wouldn't be as much fun without a bit of excess, would it? But it's also why The X Factor seems to lend itself to the exuberant world of the stage.

The winner of this year's X Factor will release their single during the week of what qualifies as the 2013 Christmas No.1.
The ITV show has avoided the festive chart battle for the last two years, but the Official Charts Company has announced that the single will release on Monday, December 16 - following the contest's final the day before - with the No.1 being revealed the following Sunday, December 22.
2011 winners Little Mix and 2012 winner James Arthur both reached the top spot, but their singles were released the week before Christmas.
Matt Cardle's Biffy Clyro cover in 2010 was the last X Factor winner's single released during Christmas No.1 week and it topped the charts.
In 2009, however, Joe McElderry was beaten to No.1 by an anti-Simon Cowell campaign's push for Rage Against The Machine's 1993 single 'Killing In The Name'.

Cardle was seen wearing a brown jacket with a pair of maroon coloured jeans and smart brown brogues.

Matt Cardle has said that he was "disappointed" not to be featured on a recent X Factor advert.
The 2010 winner was notably omitted from the mash-up ad, which remixed several of the show's biggest stars, despite including some acts who have proved less successful than Cardle so far.
The singer said that he was mainly upset for his fans who had voted for him to win three years ago.
He told Unreality TV: "I was a bit disappointed not for myself but for the fans who'd voted for me.
"The year that I won X Factor was the highest ratings they've ever had. Something like 19.5 million people watched the final that year.
"So I feel bad for them if they would've wanted to see me in the video, but you know, I had my own stuff going on at the time.
