Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is a movie star. "The Marvels" has been cited as another sign of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fall from dominance, but everyone loves young actor Iman Vellani as this spunky heroine. /Film even named Kamala the best movie hero of 2023 and proclaimed her the future of the MCU.
Of course, Kamala comes from Marvel Comics and was co-created by G. Willow Wilson, Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie. The comics made a bizarre move of synergy in 2023; between Kamala's Disney+ show "Ms. Marvel" and the theatrical run of "The Marvels," she heroically dies in "Amazing Spider-Man" #26 (by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.), published in May 2023.
Wells' "Amazing Spider-Man" isn't exactly a fan-favorite (the stink of breaking up Peter and Mj has carried across his run) and this was a low point. It was the cheapest of cheap melodrama and Kamala perished while pulling guest star duty.

Captain Marvel is a superhero who has gone through some tumultuous times. The character otherwise known as Carol Danvers might be an A-lister now, but it took a long time to grant her the status she's since become synonymous with. When she first debuted in "Marvel Super-Heroes" #13 back in 1987, Carol was known as Ms. Marvel. She was created, in part, to capitalize on the women's liberation movement that had been taking the country by storm for nearly 20 years — but the effects of the movement wouldn't create lasting change for her character for a while.
Carol's bizarre journey was recently catalogued in the insider book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios." It didn't take long for her to get her own solo series, "Ms. Marvel," in the late '70s, but she was frequently written by men, few of whom fully understood the feminist movement they were meant to be embodying.

One of the most exciting comic book industry announcements this year has been the formation of Dstlry, a new creator-owned publisher where the creators own part of the company, including writers and artists such as James Tynion IV, Scott Snyder, Jock, and more. Taking its name after the whiskey aging process, the debut publication is cleverly titled The Devil's Cut, and is a collection of 11 short stories, eight of which lead into full series.
One of those teams creating a full series is James Tynion and Christian Ward, who have been working on a haunted house epic titled Spectregraph, which is also the first story in the collection. We're thrilled to exclusively reveal a new direct-to-consumer variant cover for The Devil's Cut from Christian Ward for "Spectregraph" available only through www.dstlry.co, along with some incredible concept art!

Much like the Goonies, superheroes never say die. Exciting comic book news comes from Entertainment Weekly this Friday, with word that Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani is co-writing a new Ms. Marvel comic as a part of the character’s embiggened reintroduction to Marvel Comics. Before we share the details, you should know that Marvel recently killed Ms. Marvel after the character sacrificed herself earlier this year in Amazing Spider-Man #26. Ms. Marvel’s death elicited mixed reactions from fans, but like most things in comics, there’s always a plan.
Vellani will co-write a new Ms. Marvel comic alongside Ms. Marvel TV writer Sabir Pirzada. Carlos Gomez and Adam Gorham supply the art, with Sara Pichelli creating covers for the series.
“This was way scarier than joining the MCU for me,” Vellani tells Entertainment Weekly. “Those projects feel like they live in their own dimension, so I guess I can separate myself easier.

How the hell has Kieron Gillen never written a summer event comic before?
Gillen is the writer behind Eisner- and Hugo-nominated comics such as perennial Den of Geek favorites Once & Future and The Wicked + The Divine. But even before that, he was part of that mid-aughts wave of Image writers who took over Marvel’s flagship books. Gillen wrote a couple of excellent Utopia-era X-Men books (Generation Hope and Uncanny X-Men), as well as a beloved run with Kid Loki that helped inspire one Disney+ show and a relaunch of Young Avengers with Jamie McKelvie that is likely going to have an impact on the MCU further down the line. And yet, somehow, his first blockbuster comics crossover is out in 2022.

Ms. Marvel Episode 1
Kamala Khan has arrived in the MCU with her own Disney+ show introducing us to Ms. Marvel, Jersey City’s newest hero. As a canonical fangirl, there are more Easter eggs than usual in this first episode alone, with a special emphasis on Ms. Marvel’s connection to Captain Marvel. In a world where Marvel characters are on the news and there’s an Avengers fan convention for the irl heroes, there are so many references we probably won’t ever find them all, but we’re doing our best. Let’s dig in!
Opening Credits
The opening animation is like the short animated films actor Iman Vellani has made herself, which are also Marvel-themed. They are incredibly endearing. You can see them here. And, of course, within that there are a ton of Marvel Comics and MCU Easter eggs, which...

MI5 agent Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell) became such a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan favorite upon her introduction in Captain America: The First Avenger that she ended up getting her own spinoff show on ABC in 2015. Sadly canceled too soon, Agent Carter wouldn’t be the last we saw of Peggy: she later popped up in Avengers: Endgame. But Marvel wasn’t done with Peggy just yet, and she returned triumphantly last year in Marvel’s What If…? animated series as a multiverse Variant who took the Super-Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers, transforming into the superheroic Captain Carter.

This article contains Eternals spoilers.
It’s not hard, when a Captain America or an Iron Man movie hits, for Marvel to have a comic on shelves that new fans can be pointed toward as an accessible way to get to know the characters. The same can’t be said for The Eternals. In a lot of ways, Jack Kirby’s most bizarre creations – god-like beings, created by the all-powerful Celestials to do battle with the deformed, wild Deviants – have endured despite their relative scarcity. The sum total of what can be reasonably called Eternals stories only runs to about 50 issues. So the task of centering them ahead of their big movie debut in November is both a blessing and a curse, even with an all-star cast and an Oscar-winning director at the helm.
Enter Kieron Gillen.
Gillen is a Marvel veteran and no stranger to the company’s cultural juggernaut side.

There’s more to Disney Plus’ new series “Loki” than Tom Hiddleston’s admittedly unmistakable charm, as great as that may be; the Marvel version of the mythical figure, which debuted in 1963’s “Journey Into Mystery” #85, has more than half a century’s worth of comic book history of mischief and troublemaking behind him, with his crimes ranging from the near-genocidal to the utterly mundane. If the TV show has left you wanting more, then here’s where to find it.
‘Loki’ Omnibus Vol. 1
The earliest appearances of Marvel’s Loki are a strange thing to revisit from today’s perspective; he’s at once more archly, stereotypically evil, while also managing to be almost cartoonishly unthreatening.

To say the Disney Investor Day was a big deal would be an understatement. In addition to announcing multiple new films and projects, Lucasfilm and Marvel offered up confirmations and announcements for the future of their respective franchises. And for Marvel, that included introducing some new superheroes to the mix. Like Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel.
Initially announced at San Diego Comic-Con last year, Kamala will head her own Disney+ series that will follow her adventures as Marvel’s first Pakistani-American superhero. Kevin Feige confirmed that newcomer Iman Vellani will play the titular superhero, who since making her comics debut in 2014, has become one of Marvel’s most beloved characters.
But some of you might still be asking who Kamala is and, more importantly, why her story is one that Marvel wants to spotlight. Since nothing is announced accidentally, we know that whoever is joining the McU will be important to its future.

When Kevin Feige announced that “Baby-Sitters Club” actress Xochitl Gomez would officially portray the character of America Chavez in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” comic fans were thrilled. But as for the wider world, there was a lot of confusion. Who was America Chavez? What does her character add to a film that already includes big Marvel characters like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch?
If you’re one of the people asking those above questions, we’re here to help school you on this awesome superhero you probably have never heard of. Aside from a short-lived 2017 solo series, America has mostly been a side character in comics like “A-Force,” “Ultimates,” and “West Coast Avengers.” So it’s not surprising that a lot of people haven’t heard about her. But it seems like Marvel is finally letting her have the spotlight, and we’re betting she’s going...

Carol Danvers is bringing two fan-favorites on board for the highly anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel. Ms. Marvel – who holds Danvers’s previous moniker – and Monica Rambeau – the first woman to hold the title Captain Marvel – will both join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige announced the news during the news during the Disney Investor Day call.
Monica will make her debut when Teyonah Parris (Dear White People) plays her in WandaVision, the mysterious and highly stylized Disney+ show that seems to be taking on a version of the “House of M” comic storyline, while also taking some cues from I Love Lucy and The Brady Bunch. Notably for Carol Danvers fans, “House of M” is when Carol first truly saw herself as a hero. She retained her memories from the alternate universe, and the experience inspired her to get her life together and become the mighty Captain Marvel we all know and love.

On Friday, word got out that Xochitl Gomez (of Netflix’s Babysitter’s Club) was joining Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to Marvel’s trippiest pre-Endgame movie. And with a title like that, and the presences of Marvel’s foremost reality bender, the internet collectively gasped “America Chavez!” together. But who is she? And why is she such an obvious addition to the cast of Doctor Strange 2?
“Ms. America” Chavez is a relatively recent addition to Marvel canon. She was introduced by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta in 2011’s Vengeance. She was raised by her two mothers in a utopian pocket dimension. Her moms both appeared to die closing black holes that threatened her city, and inspired by their heroism, she abandoned her reality for the multiverse.
When she arrived on the main Marvel Earth, she joined the Teen Brigade and fought, among others, a teenage Loki.

The person most responsible for the creation of the Kamala Khan version of Ms. Marvel is worried that the upcoming live-action “Ms. Marvel” on Disney+ is going to have a hard time depicting her super-powered abilities.
“I think there’re some characters who are very much set up for the big screen; they’re very naturally sort of cinematic. But with Ms. Marvel, we really weren’t interested in creating something that had very obvious film potential,” writer G. Willow Wilson told Polygon. “She’s got very comic booky powers. God bless them trying to bring that to live-action. I don’t know how that’s going to work out in a way that doesn’t look really creepy.”
Khan’s powers include the ability to enlarge or shrink any part of herself she wants. She is the second superhero to use the “Ms. Marvel” moniker, adopting the name as a tribute to Carol Danvers,...

Kamala Khan will become part of the McU with a Ms. Marvel TV series on Disney+. She's a perfect fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A Ms. Marvel TV series is coming to streaming service Disney+, based on the Hugo-award winning and critically acclaimed comic book series of the same name. The first Muslim superhero to headline her own series for Marvel, Ms. Marvel has already made it to the small screen as part of the Marvel Rising animated series, but this will be her first foray into live action.
Created by writer G. Willow Wilson, editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, and artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan, a nerdy Muslim Pakistani-American teenager living in Jersey City who gained powers after coming into contact with Terrigen Mist. Descended from Inhumans, the mist unlocked her ability to shapeshift, like Daisy/Quake on Agents of Shield.

The title says "quiet" but this episode of Young Justice: Outsiders is mostly loud. Its quality is only adequate, though.

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 20
"This Be The Verse" by Philip Larkin has been quoted a couple of times in comics - once that I can remember in Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine, and once in Multiversity. And now, the famous line has at least been paraphrased by Young Justice in "Quiet Conversations," an episode that's almost entirely about the screwed up family dynamics driving about half of the show.
There are four stories that get some attention this week. Fatherbox is taking over Cyborg's body, and Black Lightning, Forager...

Packing plentiful heroes and villains, here's the full list of characters in Marvel's Avengers game
Due to be published by Square Enix next year, Marvel's Avengers will allow players to take control of numerous Marvel comic book heroes as they face off against fearsome foes. We don't need us to tell you that the prospect of playing as Earth's Mightiest Heroes is an exciting one.
Avengers, which is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, sounds like the story will have quite a massive scope to it, and so far, a handful of iconic characters have been confirmed to appear. There are sure to be more announced in the coming months, and perhaps there will even be a few surprise appearances that we won't know about until we play the game.
For now, though, here's the full list of heroes and villains you can expect to see in Marvel's Avengers.

In one of the non-life-threatening surprises in Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel cut her hair and pushed back against the gender binary.
Warning: This article contains Major Avengers: Endgame spoilers. We have a completely spoiler free review right here.
As long as she has been Captain Marvel, people have been talking about Carol Danvers’ hair. Avengers: Endgame is no exception.
In the lead up to the epic movie, there was a bit of a dust-up about Captain Marvel’s looks. Some fans were surprised to see that our fresh-faced hero, last seen heading off into space in the '90s with a very no-frills look, seemed to have picked up some makeup on her way across the galaxy toward Avengers HQ. My personal head canon? Her friend in the comics Dazzler, the mutant/intergalactic pop star taught her how to do a perfect matte lip.

Melo & Castellucci are still killing it on Female Furies, DC's latest update of Jack Kirby's Fourth World concepts.
I know we've been over this before, but Adriana Melo is something else, man.
In Female Furies #1, there was a really hardcore Jack Kirby vibe to the art. Melo's faces especially had that Kirby smile on Heggra, with her lips peeled back off her mouth in what can only be understood as taking immense joy in someone else's suffering. That is, of course, exactly what the King wanted conveyed about the monsters from Apokalips, so well done, right?
DC sent us over a preview of Female Furies #3, and we've moved past Kirby homage and into something all Melo's own. Beautiful Dreamer (of the Forever People) has been captured by the Furies and Granny Goodness, and they're using her powers to try and wipe impure thoughts of unnatural...

Back at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, those lucky enough to be attending the Marvel Studios panel got the world’s first glimpse at Brie Larson’s look in Captain Marvel through a piece of concept art which displayed Carol Danvers in her iconic red, blue and gold costume. As these things do, this then leaked online via secondhand pics snapped on phones but the official version never materialized. Until now, that is.
Marvel’s director of visual development, Andy Park, took to Twitter today to share the concept art properly, taking the opportunity to gush about how much fun he had working on the upcoming movie as well as citing the two comic book artists that inspired the McU’s design for Captain Marvel the most.
“I absolutely Loved creating this design of @brielarson as #CaptainMarvel ! Based on the awesome comic book looks by [Jamie McKelvie] & [Kris Anka]. It was a pleasure taking...

Late last month, two behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Avengers 4 were leaked online that showed Brie Larson, who will soon enter the McU as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, wearing a suit that rung unfamiliar with those used to her current Jamie McKelvie-designed look. And because the internet is the internet, it took no time at all for people to start posting their knee-jerk reactions to the... Read More...

Back in late January, the Twitter account Geeks Worldwide posted a pair of first-look images of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel on the set of Avengers 4. The photos featured Larson as wearing a black, green, and silver costume, as opposed to her now-iconic Jamie McKelvie-designed red and blue flight suit. As the pics began making the rounds online, some Marvel fans chose to voice their... Read More...

Here's your first look at Brie Larson in the Captain Marvel movie costume...
The Captain Marvel movie was announced ages ago, and that March 2019 release date feels further off than it probably is. Brie Larson will play fan-favorite cosmic powered badass Carol Danvers in the film, which will be an origin story set in the 1990s. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) are directing from a screenplay by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. As far as hard details, that's about all we have to go on.
But it's amazing what a single image from a set can tell you. We've been waiting forever to see what Brie Larson will look like in the Captain Marvel costume, and the first set photos have surfaced.
