Park Chan-wook has one of the most illustrious careers as a filmmaker in South Korea, with movies like “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,” “Oldboy” and “The Handmaiden” winning multiple prestigious Korean film awards. He returns this awards season with the unique Cj Entertainment film “Decision to Leave,” a thriller turned tragic romance that one would say goes against his usual style of filmmaking. However, his command of direction remains impeccable, winning him the Best Director prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. It may come as a shock to many that he has never received an Oscar nomination; will this be the year he could break into the Best Director category?
“Decision to Leave” stars Park Hae-il as a skilled detective investigating the murder of a mountain climber and begins to have intense romantic feelings for his main suspect wife, played by Tang Wei. While the film does not have a lot...

ABC reporter Will Reeve came up a bit short — er, shorts — during his Good Morning America live hit Tuesday.
During a segment on pharmacies using drones to deliver medicine to customers, Reeve appeared on camera from his home. Everything appeared normal during the set-up piece with hosts Michael Strahan and Amy Robach… until the graphics at the bottom of the screen went away, and Reeve looked like he was sporting nothing more than boxer shorts with his blazer and collared shirt.

ABC News’ Will Reeve got caught going pants-less on “Good Morning America” Tuesday and responded good-naturedly on Twitter.
“I have Arrived,” he tweeted before adding, “in the most hilariously mortifying way possible.”
He was responding to one of the many tweets that called him out for very clearly not being fully dressed below the waist during his morning hit, which was done remotely. Like most other on-air personalities in the age of the coronavirus and social distancing, Reeve was telecommuting, beaming himself into the nationally-aired show live from his living room.

On-air talent often jokes about only wearing business attired up top, even during in-studio hits, but the whole gag hinges on viewers not being able to tell.
Earlier on Tuesday, he responded to the original viral tweet about the slip-up.

The Hi-Pointe Theater, at 1005 McCausland Ave in St. Louis, is the best place to see movies. Something about its city locale, its nostalgia factor, its retro interior, and the fact that they sell wine by the bottle make me think that any pagan cult in town will be glad to know that Midsommar is currently playing there. Midsommar is an absolutely terrifying new film about a couple who travel to Sweden to visit a rural hometown’s fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult. Midsommar is the best horror film I’ve seen since The Witch and the best film of 2019 so far. I’ve seen it at The Hi-Pointe twice and that’s where I plan on seeing it a third time . Showtimes July 8th through July 11th are 5pm and 8pm.

Dwayne Johnson got his 2018 off to a huge start when “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” became Sony’s biggest hit in years with $961 million grossed worldwide. But he’s followed it with two straight box office underperformers: First New Line’s “Rampage” in April and now Universal’s “Skyscraper,” which opened this weekend to $25 million domestic and just $65 million worldwide from 57 countries.
With a $120 million budget before marketing costs, Universal and Legendary face an uphill battle toward profitability for this action film. (“Rampage” had the same reported budget and topped out under $100 million domestically — though it grossed an impressive $327 million overseas.”)
While audiences who did see “Skyscraper” were fairly positive with a B+ on CinemaScore, that’s below the A given to previous Johnson films like “Rampage” and “San Andreas,” meaning word-of-mouth is weaker.
What led to this disappointing result for Hollywood’s biggest box office star? There are several factors…...

Early reviews are in for “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the newest standalone space opera set in the galaxy far, far away, and the titular smuggler seems to have only just scraped by the wrath of his film critics with a 72% Rotten Tomatoes score, though not without a few bruises and blaster burns.
The two most recent installments, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” earned 85% and 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.
The film’s notorious production history was widely publicized over the past year, the most notable event being Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy replacing directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Ron Howard after alleged disagreements regarding the direction of the film.
Despite its infamous public troubles, Variety‘s own Andrew Barker notes, “Though burdened with a slow start and enough thirsty fan-service to power Comic-Con’s Hall H for a decade, it has a kicky,...

Everyone wins,” wrote Detroit News film critic Adam Graham. The film has 84 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. One critic said “Rogue One” has one of the “most impressive space battle in the series. One of the worst reviewed movies of the 2013 summer season, Grown Ups 2 still grossed a very healthy $131 million when it ran in theaters.
The attraction no doubt comes from the stars, of which this film is loaded. Adam Sandler (That’s My Boy), Kevin James (Here Comes the Boom), Chris Rock (2 Days in New York), David Spade (TV’s Rules of Engagement), Rob Schneider (The Reef) and Steve Buscemi (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone) star alongside Salma Hayek (Savages), Maria Bello (Carjacked) and Maya Rudolph (The Way, Way Back). And added to the cast this time around are Jon Lovitz (A League of Their Own), Shaquille O’Neal and Twilight heartthrob Taylor Lautner.

Though Beyonce is in the middle of a long and hectic worldwide tour, she took time during her stop in Detroit to give the city a powerful tribute during its time of crisis.
While Queen Bey has covered Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" before, this rendition was particularly moving for Detroiters: It not only sounded amazing, but was accompanied by images of city history and its musical legacy, from Aretha to Eminem.
The rest of Saturday's performance at the Palace of Auburn Hills in metro Detroit garnered high praise from local fans as well as critics. In the Detroit News, Adam Graham called "The Mrs. Carter Show" Beyonce's best concert yet.
"'Halo' closed out the evening, and if there wasn’t one on her head by the end of the show, it’s only because her crown is simply too big," he wrote. "Bow down."

Comedy movie Here Comes the Boom takes one part of the story of Warrior and injects the kind of laughs Kevin James provides.
James plays 42-year-old high-school biology teacher and former college wrestler Scott Voss. When budget cuts threaten to cancel some of the school’s programs, including laying off the music teacher (Henry Winkler), Voss decides to raise money by fighting in mixed martial arts bouts. Naturally, everyone thinks he’s crazy, especially the school nurse (Salma Hayek). But we’ve got a feeling he’ll end up inspiring people.
Rated PG, Here Comes the Boom was directed by Frank Coraci, who also directed James in Zookeeper and helmed other comic actor Adam Sandler in Click, The Waterboy and The Wedding Singer.

It's great to see two of Detroit's superstars meeting in person, like when Eminem offers (adopted Detroiter) Prince Fielder a helping hand.
The rapper hosted the Tigers slugger at his studio in a Fox Sports segment before the ballplayer and his team suffered a painful defeat in Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday night.
"This is great, man, it's exciting," Eminem said in the segment. "Let's do it."
"Yeah, just four more wins." Prince Fielder replied.
"No I mean, let's do it. You need a pinch hitter?"
Eminem, who has been in town making a music video or two, went on to claim he was ambidextrous and could also pitch.
Watch the video above, which meanders through Detroit and Royal Oak, for Fielder's thoughts on the World Series and adorable shots with the family. A highlight is his sons' rendition of the "Gangnam Style" dance, which causes their father to...

Advantage: Phillip Phillips.
The "American Idol" final two duked it out onstage at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Tuesday night (May 22), battling for the 11th-season title. And Phillips — the Dave Matthews-type from Leesburg, Georgia — was a clear favorite over 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez, who appeared defeated by "Change Nothing," the ironically titled song she was given for her potential winning single, which didn't match up with her sassy, Beyoncé-in-training style.
Phillips' song "Home," on the other hand, was tailor-made for the 21-year-old. He performed the rootsy ballad with a full drum line and stole the show, earning the evening's only standing ovation from the judges following the song.

Joshua Ledet stepped out with Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" (his California song — Grobes hails from L.A.) and James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," the latter of which earned...

Skylar Laine is headed back to Brandon, Mississippi.
The 18-year-old country spitfire was sent home on Thursday's (May 3) "American Idol" results episode, after receiving the fewest number of votes following Wednesday's performance episode. Nearly 60 million votes were cast, host Ryan Seacrest reported during the show.
Laine found herself in the bottom two alongside Hollie Cavanagh. Now that the field is down to five singers, there was no bottom three.
When the news was delivered to Laine, she hugged Cavanagh tight at the center of the stage. After composing herself, she sang Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder & Lead" as the show closed.
Just one night prior, Jennifer Lopez told Laine she had victory in her grasp. "You wanna win, don't you?" Lopez asked Laine after she sang Dusty Springfield's...

Chalk up another standing ovation for Joshua Ledet.
But the standing O the 20-year-old from Westlake, Louisiana received at the close of Wednesday's (May 2) "American Idol" was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to the praise that was lavished upon him during the two-hour episode, which found the "Idols" performing two songs apiece: One from the '60s and a Brit-pop hit, all guided by guest mentor "Little" Steven Van Zandt.
Steven Tyler kicked off Ledetpalooza when following his version of the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" he told him, "You've gotta be one of the top two best 'Idols' of all time." But Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez went even further following Ledet's second performance.

"The Five-Year Engagement," starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, doesn't adhere to the same predictable romantic-comedy formula audiences are used to seeing. It doesn't open with a comedic meet-cute, and there's no quirky first date: The film follows Violet Barnes (Blunt) and Tom Solomon (Segel) after they're already engaged.
When we meet the characters, their hurdle is how to survive a long engagement due to Violet's budding postdoctoral career.
While some critics believe the movie is a half-hour too long, most agree that the talented cast of comedians brings the honest, insightful script to life. While "Five-Year Engagement" may not be the "Bridesmaids" of 2012, the reviews suggest the film will be a weekend hit.

After two weeks of shocking elimination episodes, "American Idol" took a break from the surprises Thursday (April 26), sending perpetual bottom-dweller Elise Testone home.
Testone, the 28-year-old from Charleston, South Carolina, had faced elimination so many times that "Idol" mentor Jimmy Iovine joked she had a "vacation home" in the bottom three.
Testone came up on the short end of the reported 58 million votes cast following Wednesday's performance episode, where she took on Queen's "I Want It All" and a very wordy rendition of Jimi Hendrix's "Bold as Love." Ledet racked up two more standing O's from the judges on Wednesday's (April 25) "Idol," which found the contestants singing two songs apiece: one from Queen, and another of their own choosing.
That brought Ledet's unofficial standing ovation season total to 12 — that figure according to Skylar Laine, who ribbed him backstage for receiving a dozen standing O's over the course of the season.

"Bad Romance" turned out just plain bad for Colton Dixon on Thursday (April 19), as the 20-year-old Tennessean — who had never before landed in the bottom three — was voted off "American Idol."
Dixon found himself at the bottom of the 53 million votes cast following Wednesday's performance episode. Dixon, the Mohawk-mullet-wearing emo-rocker who entered "Idol" initially only as a show of moral support for his sister, performed a goth-lite version of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" on Wednesday's show, as well as an emo reading of Earth, Wind & Fire's "September."
When given the news he had been voted off — and would indeed be going home, since the judges used their one-and-only save for the season last week to rescue Jessica Sanchez from oblivion — Dixon said sorry to his fans.

Whitney Houston was one of a handful of singers whose voice was so inimitable that "American Idol" judges would often discourage contestants from singing her songs.
But the tables were turned Wednesday (March 7), when the ladies of the Top 13 were asked to sing songs from Houston's catalog. Some were up to the task, including Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine and Erika Van Pelt, while others — Elise Testone and Shannon Magrane among them — proved why Whitney is often best left untouched.
Guys, meanwhile, dug into the Stevie Wonder songbook, marking the first time Wonder's songs have been used as a theme since the fifth season of "Idol." But it was the girls who stole the show, and the season continues to look like it's leaning in the ladies' direction. "We...

Whitney Houston was one of a handful of singers whose voice was so inimitable that "American Idol" judges would often discourage contestants from singing her songs.

Heejun's in. So are Phillip Phillips, Skylar Laine and Shannon MaGrane. Adam Brock? Not so fast ...
"American Idol" revealed its top 13 finalists on Wednesday (March 1), swiftly dismissing half its field after this week's live performance episodes. The cuts were harsh, as Ryan Seacrest delivered the news in typical no-nonsense fashion, crushing the dreams of some contestants while making others' come true.
A reported 33 million votes were cast, down from the 40 million made at this point in the competition last year.
Phillip Phillips was the first one through to the voter-approved top 10 and got a few minutes to soak in the moment by himself before he was joined by Jessica Sanchez, whose purported vocal issues didn't affect her performance on Wednesday one bit, and tiny Hollie Cavanagh, who...

No female has won since 2007, but the ladies proved on Wednesday that it may be their year to take back the crown.
By Adam Graham
Jessica Sanchez on "American Idol"
Photo: Fox
It was ladies' night on "American Idol" Wednesday (February 29), and if the performances of the Top 12 females are any indication, it could be the ladies' season as well.
Indeed, Tuesday's shaky performances from the guys may have had fans worried about this year's installment of "Idol." But several ladies turned in big, show-stealing songs on Wednesday that restored faith to the season at hand. And while no female has won "Idol" since Jordin Sparks took the crown back in 2007, this could be the year a woman puts an end to that dry spell.
Fittingly, this potential female domination comes at a time when the biggest force in pop music is Adele, and the chart-topping diva's presence loomed large over Wednesday's show.

"American Idol" revealed its final 10 semifinalists Thursday (February 23), rounding out the Top 24 that will compete for America's votes during season 11's live episodes, which begin next week.
The remaining 10 contestants were chosen from the pool of 42 sent to Las Vegas to compete for the chance to perform on the live shows. The first 14, including Heejun Han (Heejun Han!), were unveiled during Wednesday's episode.
Thursday's show picked up with the cliffhanger from Wednesday, regarding the fate of 27-year-old Adam Brock. The teary-eyed Brock made it, of course; "American Idol" can be cruel (see last week's brutal "Gotcha!" twist), but it's not cruel enough to let a contestant hang in the balance for a full day and then not let him through.

Rest easy, America. Heejun Han made it through.
Han, the biggest personality to emerge on "American Idol" so far this season, was revealed on Wednesday's (February 22) episode as one of the 24 seminfinalists who will make it through to the live episodes, which begin next week. From a final pool of 42, 14 semifinalists were unveiled during Wednesday's episode; the final 10 will be made public during Thursday's one-hour episode.
Joining Han — producers cued "Hey Jude," which almost sounds like "Heejun," when he made it through — on the guys' side are the incredibly named Phillip Phillips; tiny soul man Creighton Fraker; former family band singer Reed Grimm; gospel-voiced Joshua Ledet; and the mohawk-mulleted Colton Dixon. Representing for the ladies are Erika Van Pelt, Jen Hirsh,...

Contestants audition during "American Idol" Vegas week
Photo: Michael Becker / Fox
"American Idol" opened with 70 contestants Thursday (February 16) and ended with 42, as the Las Vegas cuts — referred to alternately as "brutal," "painful" and "deep" — lived up to their billing.
Some who made it through on the strength of their performances were later told they, in fact, didn't make it through, a new twist. The twist wasn't given a name, but it should have been called the "Gotcha!" — as in, "Oh, you thought you were going to go on to achieve your dream of being a singer? Gotcha!"
In Vegas, contestants were asked to form groups and sing songs from the '50s and '60s onstage at the Aria hotel, home to the "Viva Elvis" show.

After last week's singing-free edition of "American Idol," it was all singing on Wednesday's (February 15) episode, which ran through highlights of Hollywood Week's Group Night and Solo Day.
The two-hour episode began with 185 contestants divvied into 42 groups; an hour later, only 98 contestants remained. And by the end of the episode, the field had been narrowed by another quarter, and the remaining contestants were on a bus to Las Vegas.
The cuts came fast and furious, and among those dismissed during Group Night included "tent girl" Amy Brumfield, who seemed to infect everyone with whom she came in contact with some sort of illness; Symone Black, whose dramatic fall off the stage earlier in Hollywood Week provided "Idol" with a built-in...

Group auditions begin on "American Idol"

Group Night Drama took hold of "American Idol" on Thursday (February 9). The whole episode, in fact, zeroed in on the Drama — the infighting, the personality clashes, the late-night bleary eyes — and didn't make any time for actual, you know, singing.
Luckily, there were enough distractions to keep things interesting. A mean sick bug seemed to be going around with the contestants, and Patient Zero was Amy Brumfield, whom you remember as Tent Girl, or the girl who lives in a tent in the woods in Tennessee. Brumfield was down and out for most of the episode, battling flu-like symptoms, while those she came in contact with were also given a mean case of the pukes. Lesson:...

When it comes to "American Idol," everyone wants to go to Hollywood. But the euphoria from that Golden Ticket doesn't last long for contestants, as the slash-and-burn process of the notoriously cutthroat Hollywood Week takes hold.
This year, 309 contestants made it through to Hollywood, and the whittling-down process started immediately. Wednesday's (February 8) "Idol" focused on the beginning of Hollywood Week, when 68 contestants were shown the door by the end of day one.
Among those going home was Jane Carrey, daughter of actor Jim Carrey, who failed to make much of an impression with her timid take on Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Lookin' Out My Back Door." Because of her family ties, Carrey was one of the most noteworthy contestants from the audition episodes,...
