Anne Hathaway built a strong portfolio in Hollywood with her leading roles in almost all genres. Like any other actor, Hathaway had her fair share of insecurities as an actress. Her fears peaked right after filming Love & Other Drugs, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal. However, they lasted only for two weeks as she got the call for the film One Day. Hathaway shared that her worry came with the territory of being an actor, where a lot of things were beyond her control.

While Hathaway and Gyllenhaal’s film received mixed reviews from critics, the film was a commercial success. It explored the story of a medicine peddler Jamie who falls for a young woman suffering from an illness that could eventually lead to Parkinson’s disease.

Both extremely bloody cat-and-mouse chases through massive mansions, Radio Silence’s horror movies Ready or Not and Abigail (now playing in theaters!) are certainly cut from the same cloth, but do they actually take place within a shared universe? It was a question the filmmakers were asked, and their response suggests that the answer to that question is Yes.
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff asked the question of Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who co-directed both 2019’s Ready or Not and this year’s Abigail. As they point out, an Easter egg nestled within Abigail confirms a shared universe connection.
Bettinelli-Olpin tells Collider, “There is a portrait in the background of one of the scenes [in Abigail] of Henry Czerny’s [character from Ready or Not].” Gillet chimes in to clarify, “It would be a grandfather. A great, great, great, great grandfather [of Czerny’s character].”

My head is clear."She added: “I feel like the ending of [Scream VI ] was a very good ending, and so I don’t feel like 'Ugh, I got left in the middle.'"No,...

Universal has a long history with vampire films, going back to the 1930s. Their latest, Abigail, offers a reboot of 1936’s Dracula’s Daughter, a hypnotizing work that still stands as one of the best follow-ups to 1931’s Dracula. Now, fresh from its premiere at the Overlook Film Festival, it looks like Universal has marked a successful return to their vampire lineup.
Many reactions from Abigail’s premiere praise the movie for being nearly endlessly entertaining, bringing something fresh to the genre while also giving off the vibe of some of our favorite vampire flicks from decades past:
Abigail is expertly choreographed insanity from Radio Silence that injects new blood into the vampire horror game. You'll be yelling until the very last plié.

DeWanda Wise was originally tapped to play Maria Rambeau, best friend to Carol Danvers, in 2019’s “Captain Marvel.” DeWise later said she backed out due to other filming obligations, but in an interview with Collider published Sunday, the “Jurassic World Dominion” star revealed a major reason had to do with the way Marvel actors work, which she described as “my own personal nightmare.”
“When I almost did Captain Marvel, there was a crew member, because I was going down the process, and they said to me, ‘Yeah, you know how it is, these movies, you hit your mark, you say your line, you go home’ … I heard that and I was like, ‘That is my own personal nightmare.… pic.twitter.com/n6TthhDBa9

One of the most anticipated movies in a contentious Red vs. Blue election year, A24’s Civil War made its grand splash Thursday night in the Texas democratic stronghold of Austin — and the media, on which this feature casts a spotlight, savored it like a stack of beef ribs.
The dystopian future movie is set in a U.S. in which a three-term demagogue president rules (sound scary familiar? He’s played by Nick Offerman). Civil War follows a war journalist, played by Kirsten Dunst, as she traverses a very hostile America.

The subgenre of "Christmas movies" has been a curious one of late. While new movies set during the holiday season or others explicitly concerning it are released every year (especially holiday horror), it feels like we haven't gotten a new classic, gotta-watch-this-every-year holiday movie in a while. That's because, in all honesty, most classics aren't made, they're grown; it takes a few years for most films to prove their durability, and some that are overlooked upon their initial release get rediscovered and slowly morph into seasonal staples.
Filmmaker Michael Dougherty is intimately familiar with this process, as it's happened to him at least twice with two movies about two different holidays. His anthology of Halloween hijinks, 2007's "Trick 'r Treat," barely got a theatrical release before word of mouth allowed it to gain a cult reputation strong enough that a sequel has been rumored for years, and may actually happen.

Brotherly love is hard to come by in the superhero arena. While some siblings live for a good old-fashioned team-up, others often find themselves at opposite ends, clawing their way up the family tree for favoritism and supremacy. When DC‘s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom swims into theaters, Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Orm Marius (Patrick Wilson) must set their differences aside and work together to save a kingdom from Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).
Promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is ramping up ahead of the film’s December 22 release in theaters, with horror mastermind James Wan again in the director’s chair. While Wan fills the sequel with many terrifying creatures from the blackest depths, he’s unafraid to inject humor into Arthur and Orm’s combative relationship dynamic. Wan discussed the upcoming film with Collider‘s Perri Nemiroff and compared Momoa and Wilson’s on-screen...

The first reactions to Paul King’s Wonka, the prequel to Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, are in, with much praise for the film’s star Timothée Chalamet as the enigmatic Willy Wonka.
The origin film follows Chalamet’s Willy Wonka from his beginnings selling candy in a small shop to his rise as an eccentric genius chocolatier and the creation of his fantastical chocolate factory.
“#Wonka/ #WonkaMovie is a winning confection, filled with perfect amounts of charm, whimsy & poignancy, powered by pure imagination & bright, nimble musical numbers,” wrote Courtney Howard. “Timothée Chalamet is a charisma factory. His full committal is intoxicating. Hugh Grant in exceptional Idgaf mode.”
Gizmodo senior reporter Germain Lussier wrote that Chalamet “alone is reason to see the film,” adding “He’s infinitely charming and a blast to watch.” However, he wrote, “The movie around him isn’t as good but it’s enjoyable.

While many rolled their eyes at the thought of a Willy Wonka origin story, the talent of those involved started to win people over. Writer/director Paul King achieved perfection with his Paddington movies and Timothée Chalamet is in the midst of an all-star rise to the top; thankfully, those ingredients seem to have mixed into a lovely family movie just in time for the holidays. Wonka had its world premiere in London today, and the first reactions have begun to emerge.
We’ve assembled a handful of Wonka first reactions below and will update with more as they come in.

Timothée Chalamet’s highly anticipated “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” prequel musical “Wonka” has finally been unveiled to critics and entertainment journalists, and the first reactions are calling it a “winning confection” and “an instant holiday classic.”
“Wonka,” directed by “Paddington” and “Paddington 2” filmmaker Paul King, casts Chalamet as a younger iteration of the famous chocolatier. The film is set years before Wonka opens his world-renowned chocolate factory and follows the young man as he fights to open his first shop. The supporting cast includes Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman and Hugh Grant.

When the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai Crane kicks its way onto Netflix, it could leave some questions unanswered in the interest of continuing the story in possible spin-offs. Speaking with Collider‘s Perri Nemiroff, Cobra Kai showrunners Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald said “closure” isn’t part of their grand plan for the Miyagi-verse. This statement is bold in an entertainment landscape where fans typically like things wrapped up with a big, red bow. However, some stories can’t end in a universe with limitless potential.
Hinting at Cobra Kai spin-offs, Hurwitz, Schlossberg, and Heald told Nemiroff, “We will never give actual closure when it comes to anything. We love working in the ‘Cobra Kai’ universe, so there’s always potential to revisit that world. We’re certainly thinking about other ideas within the Miyagi-verse, and it’s only a matter of time before...

It’s Time for Our Annual ‘Trick ‘r Treat 2’ Update; Michael Dougherty Teases a “Really Great Script”
The legend of Trick ‘r Treat has only grown and grown in the years since its original release in 2007, with Michael Dougherty’s seasonal anthology becoming something of a holiday horror classic. Sam is of course at the center of the property as a true Halloween icon, with various toys, costumes and decorations filling up stores like Spirit Halloween every October.
But while the world of Trick ‘r Treat has been expanded upon with various comics, we’ve still never gotten the sequel we’ve been waiting over 15 years for. It’s become an annual tradition to get an update on the status of the project each and every October, with Dougherty revealing at Beyond Fest just last year that Trick ‘r Treat 2 was in “very active development” at the time.
It’s now one year later. And we’re less than a week away from Halloween. Like Santa Claus...

Gareth Edwards’ hotly anticipated sci-fi epic The Creator has finally been unveiled for its first audience, with a press screening taking place Monday evening in Hollywood.
With full reviews of The Creator still to come, the first, albeit brief, reactions on social media have been pouring in following the screening and well ahead of the film’s Sept. 29 wide release. The consensus appears to be that The Creator could be a classic.
Judging by the early social media reaction from film journalists and critics, there is almost universal praise for the way The Creator looks and the stunning work of cinematographers Oren Soffer and Greig Fraser. Many of those who saw the film on Monday described it as one of 2023’s best films.

Patricia Arquette's new movie has been inspired by Hunter S. Thompson. The 55-year-old actress is making her directorial debut with a film adaptation of 'Gonzo Girl', which is based on the novel by Cheryl Della Prieta, and Patricia has now revealed that the movie has actually been inspired by the legendary writer, who died in February 2005, aged 67.Patricia told Collider's Perri Nemiroff: "I always loved Hunter S. Hold on to your habits, because the scariest sister, the berobed baddie herself, queen horror of all horrors in The Conjuring Universe -- Valak -- is back on the big screen. "The Nun II" had an advance premiere last night ahead of a September 8 wide release, and early buzz is pouring in from critics.
Directed by Michael Chaves, who helmed "The Curse of La Llorona" and the third "Conjuring" film, "The Nun II" will pick up right where the first film left off. In Corin Hardy's "The Nun," a novitiate nun named Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) teams up with Maurice, a village hottie nicknamed Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet), and Father Burke (Demián Bichir), the Vatican's local exorcist, to wage holy war on the sinister demon Valak (Bonnie Aarons), who has taken root in a decrepit Romanian monastery. It's 1952, and none of the events of the preceding or subsequent Conjuring films have yet taken place.

It seems life in plastic may really be fantastic, if the first reactions to Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” are to be believed. After the world premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday night, fans are more than tickled pink by Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie’s performances.
Though we know it seemingly follows Barbie’s (Robbie) journey to self-discovery in the real world — which begins with her hilariously asking her Barbie friends if they “ever think about dying” in the trailer — the film’s core plot has largely been kept under wraps. We know that, in this world, Barbies do everything, while the men are just Kens.
But, according to those who have seen the movie (which Gerwig directed and co-wrote with Noah Baumbach), the “Little Women” filmmaker’s latest directorial outing is “a stunning achievement” that expertly addresses both the long-lasting love for the doll, and the criticisms of her over the years.

When not even Gerri can keep herself from being washed away by the “tsunami” of “Barbie” marketing that has flooded the cultural discourse over the last two months, it’s clear a major movie event is afoot. But until Sunday night, following the “Barbie” premiere in Los Angeles, any kind of critical reaction to Greta Gerwig’s latest feature – her third film as a solo director – has been absent. So what’s the early word from those lucky enough to attend the lavish debut event?
Well, it’s a little incomplete. For industry observers, awards pundits, and Film Twitter devotees hoping for an early consensus from the top critics and industry veterans, it might be better wait until next week when the “Barbie” review embargo lifts after Warner Bros. finally shows “Barbie” to critics in New York and Los Angeles on a wider scale. But at least some prominent voices...

Barbie may have started as a simple toy in 1959, but she quickly branched out into a plethora of careers. Doctor, airline pilot, painter: Barbie’s done it all. But while numerous film franchises have entered the world of Barbie, the doll herself has thus far been relegated to direct to video and streaming features, starting with Barbie in the Nutcracker in 2001 and all the way through Barbie: Skipper and the Big Babysitting Adventure earlier this year.
But with the release of 2023’s Barbie, the multifaceted woman finally gets to the big screen, thanks to director Greta Gerwig and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Gerwig and co-writer Noah Baumbach have crafted a meta-textual story in which Robbie and Gosling play just one of many Barbies and Kens, among luminaries such as Issa Rae (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocolypse), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Secret Invasion), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and...

Downtown Los Angeles was full of Ken-ergy for the premiere of Barbie, where the first public screening showed off the new Margot Robbie film.
First reactions are now coming out on social media for the feature from filmmaker Greta Gerwig based on the Mattel doll. Formal reviews from critics will come at a date closer to its July 21 release.
The film, thanks to its its meme-able moments and sharp marketing campaign, has become one of the most talked-about of the summer ahead of its domestic debut, when it will open against Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The box office showdown, dubbed Barbenheimer, has sparked numerous jokes about the very different tones and ambitions of the two films. (One, a take on a classic doll; the other, about the father of the atomic bomb.)

Tom Cruise is back in theaters with the latest installment of Mission: Impossible and the initial reactions of the film following its world premiere in Rome are in.
Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One was directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also co-wrote the film alongside Erik Jendresen. The film also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Henry Czerny.
Journalists that attended the premiere in Italy have taken to social media buzzing about the action flick with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff calling it “another winner for the franchise.”
“Yet again, the production value is Through The Roof with some of the most well-defined and exhilarating set pieces photographed in ways that truly make you feel like you’re in the middle of the action. The emphasis on capturing things in camera makes a Huge difference, and you can feel it,” Nemiroff tweeted.

The world has anxiously been awaiting the release of Tom Cruise’s latest series of death-defying stunts, and judging by the first reactions to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One… we’ve got a hell of an action film to look forward to. Although Dead Reckoning is the first part of a two-part story, it sounds as though it holds its own as a solid movie. I can’t wait to see this one on the big screen for myself. Tom Cruise rarely disappoints.
Check out the first reactions to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One below! We’ll keep this updated as more reactions come in from its premiere in Rome.
#MissionImpossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is fantastic.
Dynamite, timely story. Excellent new characters. Huge variety of action and a final set piece that ranks top 2-3 all-time for the franchise.
It gets a little dense at times but...

Tom Cruise’s latest daring adventure as Ethan Hunt has been met with an initial deluge of online praise from viewers following its premiere in Rome, Italy.
From director, co-writer and producer Christopher McQuarrie, “Dead Reckoning Part One” stars Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales and more alongside Cruise. The first installment of the two-part film clocks in at two hours and forty-five minutes.
A yellow Fiat 500 featured in the film made an appearance at the premiere. So… what’s the initial word? Well, little surprise, the first reactions are generally positive, with marks going to the production value, the use of artificial intelligence as the villain and the film’s big train-based action sequence.
Kate Erbland argues that the action thriller “does the best job yet of recent “part 1 of 2!!” features in feeling like its own film while setting up for the next half.
