Gravitas Ventures, an Anthem Sports & Entertainment company, has acquired the U.S. rights to Connie Cocchia’s coming-of-age drama “When Time Got Louder.” The film will be released on Nov. 17 in select theaters and on VOD.
“’When Time Got Louder’ is a powerful story filled with emotion. It’s a great addition to the coming-of-age genre, and we can’t be more happy to bring it to audiences,” stated Cameron Moore, senior director of theatrical distribution, who negotiated the deal on behalf of Gravitas.
Willow Shields (“The Hunger Games” franchise) stars as Abbie, who is departing for college and leaving her parents (Elizabeth Mitchell and Lochlyn Munro) and brother (Jonathan Simao), who has autism and is non-verbal. As the film’s synopsis explains, “while exploring her independence and sexuality, Abbie finds herself torn between her new life and her love for her brother.” Ava Capri and Piper Curda also star in the film,...

Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to Megan Griffiths’” I’ll Show You Mine,” a Duplass Brothers Productions film, starring Poorna Jagannathan and Casey Thomas Brown. The drama will be released in theaters and on demand on June 23, 2023.
“I’ll Show You Mine” follows an author who has made a career by examining her own trauma as she sits down to interview her beguiling pansexual nephew Nick for a new book about his history as a model. Over the course of a weekend, the two challenge each other to confront and reveal their buried secrets.
“‘I’ll Show You Mine’ was made to engage in an entertaining way with universal themes–sexuality, the effects of trauma, and the need to release the shame that holds us back. It’s a deeply hopeful film that I think will really resonate with audiences and I just couldn’t be more excited...

She is a best selling author, celebrated for drilling down into her own trauma, supposedly open about the most intimate aspects of her life. He found brief fame as a model, but is now languishing somewhat, trading on old fan interest, dreaming of a comeback but hesitating to commit. Now Priya (Poorna Jagannathan) wants to interview her nephew Nick (Casey Thomas Brown) and get to the secrets he keeps from the world. What she’s not prepared for is a conversation which will expose secrets of her own, with both of them traversing dangerous territory.
Megan Griffiths’ provocative yet ultimately rather slight film draws on its characters’ shared history, allowing each to find holes in the other’s professional story and gradually pull it apart. Priya is determined to locate some hitherto unspoken scandal in Nick’s life we she can expose to make her book a success, after disappointment with the previous one,...

Sophie Wilder is in Mexico City filming Super Society 3 and hopes to get her own spinoff. While shooting, she catches her boyfriend and co-star, Adam, cheating on her with a crew member. As Sophie struggles to figure out how she can move forward, she meets Alejandro, a junior manager at a hotel used for the production. A deep friendship develops between Sophie and Alejandro as they try to figure out how things can develop in their limited time together.
Who doesn’t enjoy a good, well-made rom-com? Sadly, that’s not what Jonah Feingold’s At Midnight is. At times it seems like it desperately wishes to be a more modern retelling of Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy while also being a millennial-centred comedy about two unexpected people,...

Well, with all projects that soar high, one inevitably crashes back down to Earth.
“Top Gun: Maverick” breakout star Monica Barbaro quietly leads the Paramount+ rom-com “At Midnight,” an updated take on “Notting Hill” with a dash of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” framework. Unfortunately, with the film premiering February 10, audiences would be better off watching star-studded (and better filmed) Super Bowl ads on loop for 105 minutes.
Barbaro plays Sophie Wilder, a rising actress who leads a superhero franchise with her boyfriend of five years, Adam Clark (Anders Holm, who has made a career out of playing shitty boyfriends). When Sophie catches Adam kissing someone else in his trailer, she immediately dumps him and questions how she is going to finish the latest “Super Society” superhero installment. Production moves to Mexico, where Sophie and her posse including best friend Rachel and publicist Chris (Casey Thomas Brown) try to figure out how to...

During the mythical Golden Age of Hollywood, the romantic-comedy genre could be relied upon as a consistently entertaining, star-studded, and profitable performer at the box office, year in and year out. We've fallen quite a long way in the years since despite some recent breakthrough hits like "Crazy Rich Asians" or last year's double-whammy of "The Lost City" and "Ticket to Paradise." Instead of studios going out of their way to court genuine movie stars and put their charisma and charm on display for moviegoing audiences to enjoy vicariously, we've ended up in a place where those once-ubiquitous theatrical features instead struggle to justify their existence ... if they even make it to theaters at all.
That brings us to "At Midnight." On the surface, it has all the makings of a much-needed throwback date night at the movies, in the vein of "Roman Holiday" before it (which gets a shout-out...

Writer-director Jonah Feingold’s “At Midnight” sadly isn’t so much concerned with reinvention as it is with following a formula set by its cinematic forbearers. This spin on “Notting Hill” and “Roman Holiday” (the latter is channeled and referenced throughout) shows a silver screen superstar and a hotel employee falling in love and giving their lives the push they need to achieve their dreams. Although it’s tempting not to mess with perfection, innovation through tweaks to the narrative and characters would’ve changed this Paramount Plus feature from expected to extraordinary.
Sophie (Monica Barbaro) is used to saving the world on screen, starring in a blockbuster superhero franchise. Ironically, she can’t manage to save herself in real life, and gets little recognition from anyone but her beloved, beleaguered manager Chris (Casey Thomas Brown) and her sassy, unemployed best friend Rachel (Catherine Cohen). "I wish we could go somewhere we didn't have to hide…" Paramount has revealed the trailer for a romantic comedy titled At Midnight, which will be debuting directly for streaming on Paramount+ in February. This is one of these movies they're rushing out on Valentine's Day in hopes that couples might choose to watch. At Midnight is a cringe romance about two people who have made a "safe" choice not to fall in love. Despite their radically different lives, will they finally admit it's time to let the love flow after they meet in a hotel in Mexico? Of course, why would the plot show us anything else. Diego Boneta and Monica Barbaro star as Alejandro and Sophie, with a cast including Anders Holm, Casey Thomas Brown, Catherine Cohen, Fernando Carsa, Whitney Cummings, and Maya Zapata. This looks really bad. It's pretty much just a ripoff Redbox version of Forgetting Sarah Marshall,...

Today, Paramount+ has released a new trailer for the romantic comedy "At Midnight." The film stars Monica Barbaro ("Top Gun: Maverick") as a young movie star named Sophie who catches her actor boyfriend Adam (Anders Holm from "Workaholics") cheating while they shoot a film. He's the big name, and she isn't, so keeping this quiet is important for her career. While she nurses a broken heart, she (quite literally) runs into the hotel manager Alejandro (Diego Boneta from "Father of the Bride"), and sparks begin to fly.
To keep it all quiet, as the cast resides at Alejandro's hotel, Sophie and Alejandro secretly meet at midnight for dates. Of course, they begin falling for each other, and of course, the old flame starts looking to get back together. It's coming out on the streaming service just in time for Valentine's Day from writer/director Jonah Feingold. It also stars Whitney Cummings...

Six months after debuting its final season, Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” has just revealed to Gold Derby the names of the 12 cast members who are eligible for the ensemble prize at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Two-time SAG Award winner Michael Douglas is joined by former nominees including Paul Reiser and Sarah Baker, plus new addition Kathleen Turner. See the alphabetical list below.
“The Kominsky Method” has a strong track record at the SAG Awards. Its first two seasons both earned three nominations for ensemble, Douglas and Alan Arkin. Arkin departed the series before the final installment, so he will not be eligible. Gold Derby anticipates the series is competitive to hold onto its other two nominations, though, with both the ensemble and Douglas in sixth place in our current combined odds.

Title: Copperhead Director: Ron Maxwell Starring: Billy Campbell, Angus Macfadyen, Augustus Prew, Lucy Boynton, Peter Fonda, Casey Thomas Brown Its title a slur for Northerners who opposed the American Civil War, “Copperhead” marks the third film from director Ron Maxwell (“Gettysburg,” “Gods and Generals”) about the United States’ bloodiest armed conflict. In theory, movies like this produced outside of the Hollywood system have the potential of some measure of additional freedom, being unburdened by casting dictates and endless studio notes that often polish down history’s rough edges. Unfortunately, in reality, Maxwell’s film is a drawn-out, schematic melodrama rife with somnambulistic speechifying, and a work every bit as turgid and baldly [ Read More ]

Once again revisiting the Civil War with Copperhead, director Ron Maxwell (Gettysburg, Gods and Generals) shows a flair for mythologizing via beautiful panoramas of upstate New York landscapes but less so, unfortunately, through his film's inert story and flat performances. Based on Harold Frederic's novel, Maxwell's tale concerns farmer Abner Beech (Billy Campbell), whose opposition to Lincoln's "unconstitutional war" inspires rebellion from son Jeff (Casey Thomas Brown) and local abolitionist Jee Hagadorn (Angus Macfadyen)—whose daughter, Esther (Lucy Boynton), is fancied by Jeff. The result is an unsuccessful balancing act: presenting man of principle Abner (nether pro-South nor pro-slavery) as a virtuous victim of discrimination despite resisting a war vi...

He penned the season 4 premiere, “Hole in the Wall,” which introduced a season-long mystery somehow involving Arlo (Raymond J. Bonus: it also included a reference to Yost’s Speed screenplay (did you catch it?).
