Exclusive: Nicki Minaj is set to executive produce and star in Lady Danger, a new animated series from Amazon Freevee based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name written by Alex de Campi, Deadline has learned.
Alongside Minaj, executive producers also include Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson under his G-Unit Film & TV banner, as well as Brian Sher, and Paul Young & Mike Griffin for Make Good Content. Starburns Industries is the animation studio.
Written by executive producers Carlton Jordan and Crystle Roberson, the series—set in the year 2075—follows a government field agent who is left for dead by her team after discovering a dangerous secret, only to be resurrected as Lady Danger, an afrofuturistic ass-kicking Agent of B.O.O.T.I (Bureau of Organized Terrorism Intervention), who must conceal her true identity while she fights villains who are destroying the earth and its vulnerable inhabitants.

A decade ago, filmmaker Duncan Jones was riding high thanks to Source Code, the 2011 sci-fi movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal that was a critical and commercial success. Jones was in a position to dream up something big for his next project, and he imagined Once Upon a Time in the Future, which would be a sprawling sci-fi film that he hoped would reunite him with his team behind his 2009 cult hit Moon.
Then life took some unexpected turns. Jones’ wife, photographer Rodene Ronquillo, was diagnosed with cancer, upending the couple’s lives. When the two got back to work, Jones ended up spending ...

Duncan Jones’ “Mooniverse” trilogy is coming to an end with the debut of his graphic novel “Madi: Once Upon A Time In The Future.” The book is the third and final entry in Jones’ science-fiction series that launched in 2009 with his indie film favorite “Moon” and continued with his polarizing 2018 Netflix original movie “Mute.” Each entry tells a different story set within the same universe. Jones’ “Moon,” starring Sam Rockwell in a dual role, was a critical favorite and has become a cult favorite over the last decade. Jones announced last summer he would complete the “Mooniverse” with a graphic novel, and now a Kickstarter has launched (via Empire) in which fans can purchase the final product and get a first look at the book.
“Madi” is billed as a “260-page road trip graphic novel” from Jones and writer Alex de Campi. The two collaborators partnered with artists such as Glenn Fabry,...

The writer-director turned to comics because his next story would have been too costly to film. He and his ‘Yoda’ Alex de Campi explain their very timely project
When film-maker Duncan Jones decided to tell the third story in his tangentially linked science fiction trilogy, following Moon (2009) and the 2018 Netflix series Mute, he ran into a problem: the tale he wanted to tell was so vast that it would need a crippling budget to get it filmed.
So Jones – the British-born, La-based son of David Bowie and his first wife Angie – decided to tell the final part of his so-called Mooniverse trilogy, Madi, in a whole new medium: comics.

Marvel isn't the only one exploring what would happen if one iconic character was pit against another iconic character. The Archie vs. Predator series from Archie Comics and Dark Horse Comics has returned with a brand new issue for its second run. With Riverdale in shambles, Veronica, Betty, and Predator-Archie—yes, you heard that correctly—must fight Predators on Mars if they want to return to any kind of normalcy. Archie vs. Predator II #1 is now out on shelves, and we have a look at the cover art and plot synopsis.
Archie vs. Predator II #1: "Riverdale has been destroyed.

Archie Vs. Predator (2015) is getting its sequel this summer, with Alex De Campi writing and Robert Hack as the artist. We’ve got the cover art for the new editions of the comic for you to checkout, but first, here’s a quote from Archie Comics co-president Alex Segura regarding the series:
"The first question people are going to be asking is, 'But...how?' and, for my money, that's the best mind-set to have when you're talking crossovers. Alex de Campi wrote an iconic, legendary mashup — but, I have to tell you, her idea for the sequel goes above and beyond. The fact that we got superstar Robert Hack to bring it to life is sure to make the end result one of the most bonkers, visceral and off-the-wall events in comic book history. Strap in. This is gonna be fun as hell."
Well that should definitely pump you up for this graphic novel!

Twisted Romance #1 suffers from a problem you often see with first issues. In an attempt to do too much you end up having an issue that does not do much at all. It opens up with a plotline that is often seen in classic noir and crime stories. A desperate woman seeks the help of a man who is known to get rid of problems. In this case, her husband has been overly enjoying time with another woman so she wants him gone.Enter Heartbreak Incorporated to help her with her problem.
Mackie who runs the Heartbreak Incorporated would never be confused with Humphrey Bogart or other Private Eye detectives. With his tight jeans, flashy shades, and lanky figure he looks the ideal design of the modern-day hipster. To complicate matters further his skills appear to come from a supernatural place.

Hi! Welcome back to the Needle in a [Comic] Haystack, where I tell you all about the incredible and awesome comics you’re missing out on because there is a literal ocean of them. Today we’re going to deal with a series written by Alex De Campi, with art by a bunch of different artists, called Grindhouse.
Do you remember the old grindhouse movies? They were blackspoiltation films, women-in-prisons flicks — things that were titillating, slapped together, and, well, very grindhouse-y. People have tried to emulate these old movies for years, most of the time not doing a very good job. Perhaps the most famous example of this was the Grindhouse Double Feature by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. That’s another part of Grindhouse flicks – most of them were double features.
Which brings us to De Campi’s excellent series. You might recognize the writer. She’s done tons of comics: No Mercy,...

A lot has happened recently at DC Comics. They’ve announced plans for their Rebirth which drew mixed reactions – including from myself a couple of months back. They went on to announce a talent workshop with the idea of being able to bring in some fresh faces in comics to help breathe new life into their properties. Then earlier this month they announced a new imprint called Young Animals headed by Gerard Way, which I and many other people praised. Things coming down the pipeline from DC Comics seemed to be showing promise and certainly the return of titles like Doom Patrol have me excited.
Then last Thursday happened.
First, news broke that Shelly Bond, Executive Editor of the Vertigo imprint who had been with the imprint since its inception, had been let go as a result of “restructuring.” Vertigo editors will now be reporting directly to the top brass at DC.

This past year has been one of the most memorable of my life for many reasons, one of them being the abundance of amazing entertainment in the horror genre. Thanks to great movies, books, podcasts, performances and more, I'll always look back at 2015 fondly.
Archie vs. Predator: Riverdale is one of the last places in comic books that you’d expect to find a character’s decapitated head stuffed into a vending machine, but anything goes in Dark Horse’s four-part Archie vs. Predator series. Author Alex De Campi expertly intertwines humor with horror in this limited series about a teenaged Predator looking to add Archie and the gang to its kill list, making for one of my most enjoyable paneled-paged reading experiences of the year. A must-read for longtime fans of both the Archie and Predator franchises, this blood-splashed story is funny, fierce, and surprisingly heartfelt.

There's never been a better time to be a fan of Archie comics. In addition to the decades of great back issues in existence, exciting new crossovers continue to come out as well, including Dark Horse's brilliant four-part Archie vs. Predator series. At Comic-Con, Daily Dead had a chance to catch up with Archie vs. Predator writer Alex de Campi, who discussed bringing a teenage Predator into Riverdale to hunt Archie and his pals.
How did the idea of bringing a Predator into Archie's world originate?
Alex de Campi: The Archie bullpen. I wish I could say I was the person crazy enough to think it up, but Archie had done Glee, which got Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa into it, because he was a Glee writer, too, and then he did Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and became their creative director and good things happened. Then...

No Mercy #4
Written by Alex De Campi
Art by Carla Speed McNeil
Colors by Jenn Manley Lee
Published by Image Comics
After a truly horrible night in the last issue, the main players in No Mercy see their situation as it is: bleak. Sitting in the middle of nowhere with nothing (substantial) to eat and no water to drink puts them on edge. The mostly silent Kira goes on a tirade against Gina, but Travis is there to help her through such an emotional event. He’s such a help that they decide to run into the wilderness by themselves. It’s almost too easy to write them off as coyote fodder. Hopefully, they’ll reappear as their polarities make them some extremely entertaining characters.
Elsewhere, Chad is fed up with waiting and recruits DeShawn and Tiffani to scale a mountain to get to the closest village. In typical No Mercy fashion,...

Archie Vs. Predator #3
Written by Alex de Campi
Pencils by Fernando Ruiz
Inks by Rich Koslowski
Colors by Jason Millet
Published by Dark Horse Comics
It didn’t take long for the Predator to cut a swath through the idyllic town of Riverdale. It’s to be expected; it’s literally in the name. “Predator.” After taking out most of the background Archie characters, the alien menace has its sights set on the central Archie gang. However, after last issue’s bloody events, how long do Archie and his friends have left?
After significantly trimming down the cast of characters last issue, writer Alex de Campi is able to focus on the surviving characters in greater detail. Betty, Jughead, and even Dilton Doiley take the stage and move the plot forward in significant ways. Dilton steps up in a big way this issue, to the point where he steals the issue from everyone else.

This is my overview of the Image Comics Spotlight panel. I get there a few minutes early to make sure I can hear everything and have a good line of sight to take pictures for potential announcements. While I wait for the panel to start, I look around the open ended theater to check the turnout for the panel. The first few rows are filled to capacity already, and people try and find seats where they can. The panel begins and our panelists for the day are Adam McGovern (Nightworld writer), Becky Cloonan (Southern Cross writer), Brandon Graham (8House: Arclight writer), Valentine De Landro (Bitch Planet artist), and Alex de Campi (No Mercy writer).
Each panelist goes through the books I named above and tells us a few short points about why we should be reading these books.

So much seems to happen in No Mercy, it’s surprising it isn’t filled with more pages than other books. At the same time, the storyline is simple enough to really make the reader connect with the characters and want the moral ones to succeed. This issue is simple enough: Chad and Charlene are trying to escape from the coyotes while stranded in the bus. They’re aided by The Quiet Kid, who we learn is named Anthony, and everyone’s favorite modern hippie, Travis.
On the bus, we discover just how strained the relationship between Chad and Charlene truly is. As we’ve seen in the previous two issues, Chad has no issue with only doing what’s best for him. In this issue, we see that...

Archie Vs. Predator #2

Published by Dark Horse Comics
Now that we’re halfway through Archie Vs. Predator, it would make sense for pieces of the overarching plot to begin to take shape. If Archie Vs. Predator was a bad comic, it would fail to accomplish this task. If it was a good comic, it would already have done it and be content with itself. As it happens, Archie Vs. Predator is not simply a good or a bad comic, but an absolutely insane one. Our outdated notions of “quality” have no bearing on a comic such as this, and require a more in-depth analysis in order to fully understand its secrets.
The first issue, while fun and unique, felt very much like the prologue to a bigger and bolder story. The newest issue only cements that fact.

When all the dust settles from issue #1, No Mercy #2 picks up with the survivors from the bus crash trying to work together to fend off all possible threats. First there are a few members of the party who are badly injured or even dead. The dead bodies bring the biggest threat, coyotes.
Alex de Campi is beginning to wield a survival story. On the surface it seems like a straightforward story—wait for daylight, find some help and get out. Not everything is so easy in de Campi’s world as one lone adult must wrangle the suffering and destroyed psyches of many extremely smart eighteen year-olds. Perhaps there are a few of them who have the wherewithal to survive the night and fend off the elements but who...

Imagine being a custodial worker in a bunker that’s the last livable place on Earth. The air outside is unbreathable, and a select group of humans are in cryogenic slumber around you. Also featured in our latest round-up is a bit of good news for Revolution fans and the cover art and synopsis for another unexpected showdown in Riverdale.

Never ever let it be said that Archie Comics is content to let their flagship character stagnate. Coming off of the tragic death of Archie Andrews in Life with Archie, and the atmospheric, zombie-infested Afterlife with Archie, you’d think that Archie Comics would want to take a breather, and make something a little more traditional. Instead, they’ve teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to set Archie on a collision course with el diablo cazador de hombres - the devil that hunts men – in Archie vs. Predator.
From the first page onwards, writer Alex de Campi makes it clear that she’s having the time of her life writing this. She knows how ridiculous this concept is, and lovingly embraces that fact. Her passion...

The only perilous thing that happens is the bus running off the road and crashing into a ditch. No problems here.
De Campi takes us on the journey with myriad characters. There is the traveling hipster, girl with her first smartphone, creepy guy, and apathetic bystander, amongst others. A few weeks ago I put together a list of crazy comic book crossovers, and one of them featured Archie meeting The Punisher. If Archie thought The Punisher was bad, just wait until he gets a load of Predator. This is some awesome and amusing comic cover art for an upcoming series called Archie Vs. Predator, and here are the details:
America's favorite teen meets the galaxy's fiercest hunter! Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for Spring Break, where party games and beach games are soon replaced by the Most Dangerous Game! What mysterious attraction does the gang hold for the trophy-collecting Predator, and will the kids even realize they're in danger before it claims them all?
The comic was written by Alex de Campi, and the cover art was created by Fernando Ruiz, with variant covers below by Eric Powell and Francesco Francavilla.

Remember my review of Snowpiercer?
Well, I do, and that’s all that matters, because I had a revelation recently about that comic-turned-movie. You see, at my place of employment, they’ve been showing holiday movies, as retail outlets are wont to do when they’re trying to sell TVs (even though it’s damn grocery store). And they’ve been showing a movie that, even as I try desperately to ignore it, has gradually transformed from a painfully-deformed specter of childish inanity to a foreboding, hideous larvae. This movie is, in fact, The Polar Express. Or, as it was originally called, Snowpiercer Part One! That’s right, I’m on to your games, Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis. You clearly read the then untranslated French graphic novel Snowpiercer about a seemingly unstoppable train howling across an alien wasteland of snow and ice and whose passengers represent humankind and decided...

Archie comes have gotten a little weird at times. Like the gang meeting the Punisher, a recent critically acclaimed zombie version, and even the recent death of the title character earlier this year. Things are about to get even weirder with a new four issue miniseries in the spring of 2015 when Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead meet the Predator.
IGN points out that the comic is not going to be as fun as the art style might imply and that the comic with in fact be as violent as any of the Predator films. The comic will be written by Alex de Campi and drawn by regular Archie artist Fernando Ruiz.
The plot begins with the gang on spring break in Costa Rica and Betty running off into the jungle after a fight with Veronica. While in the dense jungle it becomes clear that she is not alone and their...

Dark Horse Comics and Archie Comics have announced Archie Meets Predator.
The Alex de Campi-written four-issue miniseries will feature the latest face-off with the alien bounty hunter - this time against the all-America teen.
When Jughead wins a trip to Costa Rica for Spring Break, the gang look forward to a relaxing holiday.
But when a fight with Veronica sends Betty crying into the nearby forest, it turns out that she is not alone.
De Campi described the comic - which is illustrated by veteran Archie artist Fernando Ruiz - as "completely insane".
"Let's take this gentle, beloved, classic teen cast and hunt them down and slaughter them one by one," she told USA Today.
"Seriously, if you wouldn't jump at the chance to write something like this, you need your head examined."
De Campi is known for Dark Horse's Grindhouse series.
She recently brought her groundbreaking digital series Valentine to Thrillbent.

Alex de Campi loves explosions and obscure film noir. She hates writing bios. She writes the comics Smoke/Ashes and Grindhouse for Dark Horse Comics. She has directed a bunch of music videos for indie bands famous and not so famous. Alex de Campi's vision was one of Thrillbent's strongest influences and helped Mark Waid recognize how successful a platform devoted to digital comics could be. De Campi has joined forces with Waid's digital comics company, Thrillbent, for the release of Valentine Volume 2. The second volume has launched on the one-stop showcase for creator-owned digital comics. Valentine Volume Two has been serialized on Thrillbent - with a new chapter posting every Thursday. For Volume 2, de Campi has reunited with artist Christine Larson, who worked with her on Volume 1. I recently had the opportunity to chat with Alex about the re-relese of Valentine, volume two and more. It’s been...

I recently got to chat with the writer of Valentine, a comic that you can currently catch up on at Thrillbent.com. The book stars a young man named Valentine, who, all upon happenstance, ends up realizing the world around him is just the tip of the iceberg. I was able to sit down with writer Alex De Campi to talk a bit about the recently released volume 2, as well as the beginnings of the book itself.
Matt: I guess the first thing would be, what interested you in that time frame with Napoleon? Was it just because you wanted to try something different?
Alex: Well, there is a reason that it is in the Napoleonic era that doesn’t become clear until much later, because it allows me to do a really cool twist at some point. So there are reasons, but I love history, history is awesome. I especially love military history,...

It’s 2014! Have you made your resolutions for the new year? Well good for you!
You’re doomed to failure, naturally, but by all means, commence your futile efforts. I will savor your anagnorisis in the same way an ophiocordyceps unilateralis organism relishes the very exquisite climax in which its spores burst forth from the parasitic structure growing inside of and possessing the host ant.
My New Year’s Resolution for 2014? I’m So glad you asked. I plan on executing more comics! Sure, I won’t make any friends with this resolution, but who needs friends when you’ve got the promise of countless tears shed in the name of my brutal and razor sharp critical analysises! Wait… is it analysi? Analysae? Now I’m just being anal.

First of all, the single most important thing we learned from comics and media coverage in general in 2013 is that people will read anything if it’s organized into a numbered list of bullet points.
Now, here are ten examples of why I loved sequential art last year.
1. Science is both awesome and terrifying.
The comic book reading public really discovered the joys of science this year, and the results have been fantastic. From Vertigo’s Federal Bureau Of Physics, a scattered adventure in anti-gravity and bubble universes, to the Discovery Channel-esque explorations of The Wake (Vertigo), physics and biology and chemistry have absolutely become “cool”—even the basis, once again, for science fiction stories about actual science. Rick Remender and Matteo Scalera recently floored us with the intense and no-holds-barred Black Science (Image), a kind of cautionary tale of multiple dimensions involving frog aliens and robot Indians and...

So, Twitter news (cue most of you scrolling down past this part)… I recently griped on Twitter about Warren Ellis and Scott Snyder (one is the writer of ‘Transmetropolitan’, the other writes ‘Batman’). My gripe with Warren Ellis is that he’s moved on to writing novels and really doesn’t interact much at all with the comic book community as a whole, as well as letting his primary publisher, Avatar Press, fall to ruin with bad horror comics like ‘Crossed’. Snyder, on the other hand, ended his incredible run on ‘Swamp Thing’ far too soon in favor of writing the higher-profile and more expensive ‘Superman Unchained’, as well as publishing his excellent new sci-fi horror ‘The Wake’ through the loathsome Vertigo Comics.
I did Not expect to have a conversation with either of them, but I (sorta) did! Warren basically shot back with curt, colorless responses that pretty much...
