Actor Mark Ruffalo is known for his humanitarian works, and is also one of the celebrities asking for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Gaza conflict. In the initial days, few Hollywood celebrities signed a petition asking to end the war that was taking place in Palestine, and Ruffalo was one of them. The Artists4Ceasefire group, as they called themselves, asked in an open letter for the conflict to end, and for women and children to live in peace.

While Marvel only has one theatrical release this year with Deadpool and Wolverine, 2025 seems to be a packed year for the franchise. Apart from Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four, the MCU will also see Mahershala Ali’s Blade making it to the big screens in November 2025.
After multiple delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and key personnel changes, Ali’s Blade is reportedly headed for filming in the summer. According to Jeff Sneider, the team behind the film has finally cracked a script that will satisfy fans of Blade and that they would be headed to film in New Mexico.

Mahershala Ali has been attached to the Blade reboot for what seems like almost an eternity now. The actor’s casting was received very well. Most importantly, he is not a new face to Marvel fans, since he played Cottonmouth in Luke Cage.
The actor is very well-respected in the industry, owing to his charming personality and acting chops. However, his turn as the Daywalker in the Marvel reboot is still up in the air, with the production yet to take off. If rumors are to be believed, the film looks set to make yet another change, thereby raising questions about Ali’s possible MCU debut.

Marvel’s Blade has been dulled yet again, as star Aaron Pierre has exited the project, marking just the most recent snag in the project, which is set to be part of Phase Six in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As Pierre confirmed to Variety, “Early on, there were conversations…As the project evolved, I’m no longer part of that — attached.” Pierre’s character in Marvel’s Blade was unknown.
There has been a lot of change throughout the development of Marvel’s revisiting of the Blade franchise, most of which relates to talent behind the camera. For starters, Watchmen’s Stacy Osei-Kuffour was hired as writer in 2021 before being replaced by Michael Starrbury (Colin in Black & White) and a handful of others, including True Detective’s Nic Pizzolatto and later Logan’s Michael Green. It’s widely believed that Aaron Pierre’s character would be dropped as subsequent drafts came in.

Fans have been excited beyond measure for Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of Blade in the new reboot for the MCU. While the character has already been adapted once with Wesley Snipes in the lead, this would be the first time that the character would be shown in the MCU and would appear along with other Marvel characters.
While Ali’s inclusion was announced way back in 2019, the film has been delayed numerous times. The actor only had a brief voice cameo in the post-credits scene of Eternals but has not made any other appearances since. It was rumored that the actor was not satisfied with the script and was threatening to exit the role after four years of no updates.

Four and a half years have passed since Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced that a new Blade was in the works, with Mahershala Ali (Leave the World Behind) on board to play the title character. It has been a bumpy ride for the project ever since. It has passed through the hands of multiple screenwriters – Stacy Osei-Kuffour (PEN15), Michael Starrbury (When They See Us), True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf). It had a director in Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli). Tariq cast Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty) and Aaron Pierre (Old) alongside Ali – then he dropped out due to “scheduling issues”, and the character Pierre would have been playing was apparently written out of the story. Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) signed on to direct the film, Mia Goth (Pearl) was cast, possibly as the villain Lilith, and Blade was just weeks away from...

It’s safe to say that Marvel Studios’ Blade hasn’t had the easiest road, but things finally seem to be back on track. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Mahershala Ali provided an encouraging Blade update.
“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you,” Mahershala Ali said. “I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.“
Since Blade was first announced back in 2019, the project has gone through several creative teams. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) was originally attached to direct Blade, but wound up stepping down, leaving Marvel to push pause on pre-production while they searched for a replacement. Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) later signed on to replace Tariq, with Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth joining the cast. Mahershala Ali recently told Entertainment Weekly that he is feeling optimistic about his upcoming Marvel movie “Blade,” in which he will star as the comic book vampire hunter. The film, which won’t begin production until next year, has had a dramatic development period, to say the least.
Marvel first announced the project at Comic-Con 2019. “Mogul Mowgli” director Bassam Tariq came on board to helm the project in July 2021 with Stacy Osei-Kuffour writing the script, but he exited the film just over a year later and with only two months to go before cameras were set to start rolling. By then, Marvel had already set a Nov. 3, 2023 release date for “Blade.” The release was delayed to September 2024 as a result. “Lovecraft Country” director Yann Demange was brought in. Rumors of overhauled scripts plagued development as the Hollywood strikes put a pause on prep. Marvel bumped the release again to Nov.

Marvel Studios’ ‘Blade’ has been both highly anticipated and notably problematic, making it a standout among recent projects we’ve covered. Rumors about the movie’s development initially surfaced in 2016, but it wasn’t until 2022 that production finally commenced, marking the beginning of the project’s challenges. Bassam Tariq, the original director, stepped down due to shifts in the film’s production schedule. There’s a Blade reboot in the works at Marvel Studios that will see the vampire hunter get worked into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there has been some concern that this version of Blade will be watered down in comparison to the R-rated Blade films we got from New Line Cinema a couple decades ago. But during a conversation with Deadline, director Yann Demange assured fans that we don’t have to worry about seeing a PG-13 Blade movie. Like the upcoming MCU film Deadpool 3, the Blade reboot is going to be rated R!

Marvel has apparently been having a very, very hard time rebooting Blade into the MCU, which is kind of strange when you think about it. I mean, how hard is it to crack Blade? The character is pretty simple! He looks cool, he has cool weapons, and he kills vampires. That's it, really. It's not that complicated. And yet, Kevin Feige and company continue to struggle with the project, which is set to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role of the Daywalker. The project, along with Ali's casting, was first announced in 2019, and it's apparently been all downhill since then.

Actor Wesley Snipes feels that he and his Blade films contributed a lot to the superhero genre of films. And he was disappointed when those contributions seemed to go highly unnoticed.
Wesley Snipes believed only a few communities gave ‘Blade’ the respect it deserved Wesley Snipes | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Snipes didn’t feel that Blade was given its just due for its influence over the film industry. Even Snipes seemed to underestimate just how big the Blade franchise would be when he was cast.
“In the beginning, my motivation for doing the first Blade project was to have fun and to do something I knew my homeboys and homegirls would absolutely love. The ones from the martial arts world. The ones from the Shaft world, and the ones who love Kung-fu and all that. We knew that would be attractive to that niche audience, but I had no idea it would have broader appeal.

Blanchett is executive producer of Noora Niasari’s ‘Shayda’.
Actors Riz Ahmed and Stellan Skarsgard will both miss next month’s Locarno Film Festival as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike, while negotiations are ongoing for the participation of Cate Blanchett.

Skarsgard has chosen to forgo his honorary Leopard Club award in solidarity with the strike.

Kit Harington joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman in Eternals. The actor didn’t have the biggest role in the movie, but it was clear that his character was being set up to become the Black Knight. The post-credit scene took the first step towards that Black Knight future with Whitman opening a chest containing the Ebony Blade, but before he could touch it, he was interrupted by an unseen Blade (Mahershala Ali).
With the Blade movie already announced, it was assumed that Dane Whitman/Black Knight would make an appearance. However, Kit Harington told the audience at Superhero Comic-Con that he was never meant to be in the Blade movie. “I was never…I think there was some misunderstanding about whether he was going to be in the Blade movie,” Harington said. “He was never meant to be in the Blade movie.” As the MCU hasn’t...

A few weeks ago, we heard that Mia Goth – whose star is on the rise due to the attention she has received from her performances in the horror films X and Pearl – had signed on to play a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade. Soon after, it was announced that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was coming on board to rewrite the screenplay written by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us)… and then the project had to be put on pause because of the Writers Guild strike. While we wait for the strike to end and for Blade to get rolling again, the well-sourced Daniel Richtman has dropped some details about Blade on his Patreon – including the reveal that Goth will be playing the primary villain, Lilith!
We have to take this as a Rumor for now, since Marvel hasn’t offered any details on Goth’s character,...

Due to the ongoing writers’ strike, Marvel has shut down pre-production on the superhero reboot, which is set to star Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter alongside Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth.
Production was expected to start in Atlanta within the month for an anticipated September 6, 2024 release. Marvel Studios first announced it was reviving ‘Blade’ after Wesley Snipes originated the character on screen in a feature film trilogy from 1998 to 2004 – at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, reports ‘Variety’.

Marvel Studios is pushing pause on its vampire superhero movie “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali, making it the first major tentpole film to be impacted by the writers strike, an individual with knowledge of the production confirmed to IndieWire.
The film was meant to begin shooting next month in Atlanta and was in pre-production. Cast and crew members were notified of the shutdown on Friday afternoon, and production will not be able to resume until whenever the strike ends.
This is the second delay for “Blade,” which was originally scheduled to release in theaters this November before getting pushed to September 2024. Last September, original director Bassam Tariq exited the project two months before production was initially scheduled to begin. Yann Demange was hired in November, and the studio added new talent to the project earlier this month, including Mia Goth in the cast and “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto, who is...

Marvel Studios was set to begin production on Blade next month in Atlanta, but THR has reported that the project has been delayed due to the ongoing writers strike.
Cast and crew members on Blade are being informed of the delay this afternoon, with production set to restart once the writers strike is over. Marvel recently hired True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto to work on the script. Pizzolatto had reportedly been working off the existing script by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) for several weeks, but an insider told THR that “time simply ran out.“
Marvel movies typically involve a lot of story changes during production, so the studio likely didn’t feel confident enough to start shooting Blade with the existing script. Although Marvel has delayed Blade, they do have several projects currently shooting, including Captain America: New World Order, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Wonder Man. In...

There has been another shift behind the scenes at Marvel's Blade – albeit a small one. Nic Pizzolatto, creator of True Detective, has been working for a while now on the script.
The movie, which sees the daywalking half-vampire warrior (and slayer of full fang club members with brutal efficiency) has had a rocky road so far, losing original director Bassam Tariq over scheduling issues that seemed more tied to script worries.
Writer Michael Starburry was brought in to work on new draft and Yann Demange took on the directing job.
Now it would appear we're in for a Detective reunion, with the man due to swing Blade's sword – Mahershala Ali – having starred in the third season of the show.
Marvel and Disney want to have this one in cinemas by September next year, so the clock is certainly ticking.

Despite a very rocky road since its announcement in nearly four years ago in the summer of 2019, Marvel's "Blade" reboot is seemingly headed in the right direction, as a brand new writer has come aboard. Not only a new writer, but a very talented (not to mention unexpected) one at that. The man in question is Nic Pizzolatto, best known as the creator of HBO's "True Detective." As such, this will serve as a reunion between Pizzolatto and star Mahershala Ali.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pizzolatto is taking over for Michael Starrbury ("When They See Us"), who had turned in the most recent draft of the screenplay. Marvel Studios decided to overhaul the project once original director Bassam Tariq stepped away from the blockbuster. Reports have indicated that Ali was unhappy with the direction the story was taking before Tariq's departure. As it stands, the movie is expected...

From True Detective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. THR has reported that Nic Pizzolatto, creator of HBO’s hit crime anthology series, is now working on Marvel’s Blade movie.
Nic Pizzolatto has previously worked with Blade star Mahershala Ali on the third season of True Detective, so this marks something of a reunion for the pair. Sources told THR that Pizzolatto has been working off the existing script by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) for several weeks now. Ali’s work on the third season of True Detective earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
With production on Blade expected to get underway late next month in Atlanta, Marvel must be scrambling to get the script in the best shape they can, particularly if the WGA strike happens. Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is set to direct Blade for Marvel.

Mia Goth is having quite the moment. Between the success of her character from Ti West's horror movies (1980s-set trilogy-capper Maxxxine just kicked off filming) and her scene-stealing turn in Infinity Pool, she's in demand and crushing it. Which has somewhat naturally put her on Marvel's radar, and she's landed a role in Blade opposite Mahershala Ali.
This being a Marvel movie, there are zero details on her character yet, nor do we know if she'll be on the heroic side, the villainous side, or somewhere in between.
Ali will play the titular Daywalker, a human-vampire hybrid thanks to his mother being bitten and killed by a blood-sucker during childbirth. A Marvel comics staple since the 1970s, he was most famously brought to screens by Wesley Snipes across three movies before the MCU was even in existence.

Mia Goth is ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline reports that Mia Goth is set to join Mahershala Ali in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade movie.
Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is set to direct the Blade movie, with Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) penning the script. In typical Marvel fashion, plot details for Blade are being kept under wraps at this time, and it’s also not known who Mia Goth might be playing. Any guesses?
The character of Blade was originally created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan for The Tomb of Dracula #10 in 1973. Blade is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires in order to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) was originally attached to direct Blade, but he wound up stepping down last year, leaving Marvel to push pause on pre-production while they searched for a replacement.

Feige also confirmed to EW that “Deadpool 3” will be the first R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Stephen Dorff is expressing his thoughts on modern superhero movies loud and clear.
The 49-year-old actor recently called the new wave of films, including Marvel’s upcoming “Blade” film, “worthless garbage,” questioning its chance of success against that of the original 1998 film, which he starred in as villain Deacon Frost with Wesley Snipes.
“God bless them, they’re making a bunch of money, but their movies suck,” Dorff said of Marvel in a recent interview with The Daily Beast.

“Nobody’s going to remember them,” he added.
“How’s that PG ‘Blade’ movie going for you, that can’t get a director? Because anybody who goes there is going to be laughed at by everyone, because we already did it and made it the best,” the actor said, referring to the fact that Marvel Studios...

Stephen Dorff has reiterated his thoughts about modern superhero movies and the planned remake of Blade, which he starred in, in 1998.
In 2021, Dorff went viral after telling The Independent’s Adam White that he was “embarrassed” for Scarlett Johansson for appearing in the “garbage” Marvel movie Black Widow.
In a new interview with The Daily Beast, Dorff said he wouldn’t revisit a comic book movie (Blade was based on a character from a series of Marvel comics in the 1970s) unless they were “more like when I started when we made Blade, or the few that have been decent over the years, like when Nolan did The Dark Knight and reinvented Batman from Tim Burton, who’s obviously a genius… when they were interesting”.
He continued: “But all this other garbage is just embarrassing, you know what I mean?”

Back in 2021, when Marvel Studio’s Black Widow was released, Stephen Dorff went off on Marvel films and stated he was embarrassed for Scarlett Johansson. Now, Dorff has doubled down, stating how sick he is of “Marvel garbage.” Variety reports that while Dorff showcases his new film Divinity at Sundance, he laughs off the notion of wanting to be in a superhero film unless they were akin to the original Blade, which he co-starred in, or something like The Dark Knight.
All this other garbage is just embarrassing. You know what I mean? I mean, God bless them, they’re making a bunch of money, but their movies suck [laughs]. And nobody’s going to remember them. Nobody’s remembering ‘Black Adam’ at the end of the day. I didn’t even see that movie. It looked so bad.”
Dorff may actually be speaking for superhero movies in general since he cited Black Adam,...

Stephen Dorff is slicing through the upcoming “Blade” remake from Marvel.
The star of the original 1998 comic book film, led by Wesley Snipes, criticized the expected PG-13 rating for the new movie, set for a September 2024 release. Dorff’s former “True Detective” co-star Mahershala Ali takes on the “Blade” title role with director Yann Demange now helming the adaptation after Bassam Tariq exited the film two months before the slated production start date. While Marvel executives have boasted “Blade” to be the first MCU “horror film,” Dorff called out the intended PG-13 rating.
“I heard it’s going to be PG-13, which I think might be a mistake, because R-rated comic book movies are the ones that seem to be good and the other ones…” Dorff exclusively explained during the 2023 IndieWire Studio at Sundance, presented by Dropbox. “‘Blade’ is a pretty dark comic so you want to go where it’s supposed to go,...

Stephen Dorff may have been in the original Blade, but he’s not a fan of modern comic book movies. The actor aired his grievances (again) in a recent interview with The Daily Beast, opining that the “worthless garbage” of the superhero genre won’t be remembered the same way Real Cinema will.
Dorff is promoting his new film Divinity, which is premiering at Sundance. His rant began because he was comparing the indie film to today’s moneymakers, which usually come from DC and Marvel. “I think Divinity should be bought by the majors, and if the majors were smart — if DC or any of these companies were doing cool things — they would look for the next Eddie Alcazar, because that’s the future. Not making Black Adam and worthless garbage over and over again,” he said.
The actor clarified that he’s more exhausted with the formula of today’s blockbusters,...
