AllBlk has greenlit the new anthology series Snap co-created by Eric Benet and Devin Hampton.
Production on the six-episode project— described as in the vein of Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone—is set to begin in mid-March with Benet portraying one of the leads. It’s slated to premiere in December.
Snap follows a perfectly imperfect god named A.O. who serves as the “moral compass” for the protagonist of each episode. When A.O. comes across a protagonist facing an unexpected scenario, he/she/they challenge(s) them to see themselves from the outside looking in…which in a “snap” will change the beliefs they’ve held onto for most of their lives.
“A truly original series that we haven’t really seen before is a perfect addition to our programming slate as we continue to expand and diversify our content offering at AllBlk,” said Brett Dismuke, General Manager of AllBlk & We tv.
Production on the six-episode project— described as in the vein of Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone—is set to begin in mid-March with Benet portraying one of the leads. It’s slated to premiere in December.

Allblk, AMC Networks’ streamer for Black content, has greenlit “Send Help,” a coming-of-age dark comedy created by “Insecure” recurring star Jean Elie and writer and story editor Mike Gauyo.
“Send Help” will follow Fritz (Elie), a young first generation Haitian American struggling to overcome the challenges of “making it” in Hollywood, while coming to terms with a recent family tragedy. He relocates to L.A. from Brockton, Mass., all while trying to be the new man of the family and exploring the Southern California dating scene. Throughout the series, Fritz fights to conquer his feelings of imposter syndrome, the Hollywood community and his family issues. Rather than address his shortcomings head on, he chooses to deny and avoid the issues that everyone else can see.
In “Insecure,” Elie played Issa’s (Issa Rae) younger brother Ahmal. He has also appeared in episodes of “The Eric Andre Show” and “American Crime.

AMC Networks topped 6 million streaming subscribers across its subscription video on demand platforms last December, hitting its projection of reaching more than 4 million by the end of 2020, the company revealed while reporting its fourth-quarter and full-year earnings Friday.
That subscriber growth, which is up 157% from 2019, counts customers across AMC Networks’ AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now and Allblk.
Also during Q4 2020, which counts the three months ending Dec. 31, ad sales at AMC Networks’ national networks, dropped 5.5% compared to Q4 of the prior year. That includes ad revenues from AMC, We tv, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios.
“The decrease in advertising revenues was primarily related to shifts in the timing of original programming as a result of production delays caused by the pandemic, resulting in lower inventory, partially offset by Cpm increases driven by healthy scatter pricing,” the company said in a statement. AMC Networks is in the midst of rebranding Umc, or Urban Movie Network, the SVOD service founded by BET founder Robert L. Johnson in February of 2015. Now titled Allblk, the streaming platform features “urban-themed” series and movies, including the channel’s library of live stand-up performances by Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx and Charlie Murphy, as well documentary films, reality series and stage plays. Umc, the AMC Networks-owned streaming service focused on Black TV and film, will rebrand as Allblk in January.
The new name and look comes on the heels of a corporate realignment of the service. Last week, AMC Networks shifted it under the aegis of Gm Brett Dismuke along with linear network We tv.
Robert L. Johnson, the businessman known for founding BET, created Umc (short for Urban Movie Channel) in 2014. Johnson’s Rlj Entertainment, which also had streaming assets like Acorn TV, was acquired by AMC Networks in 2018.
“Umc began as a distribution model for Black creatives to directly reach the then largely underserved African-American audience without the restrictions of legacy content development and traditional broadcast models,” Johnson said in a statement. “As technology advances and programming demands from our community evolve, the rebranded Allblk will be well positioned to breakout as the preeminent streaming destination for viewers seeking Black entertainment.

Long before what is now referred to as the streaming wars began, Robert L. Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television (Bet) and Chairman of Rlj Entertainment, announced Umc — Urban Movie Channel, Rlj’s proprietary streaming network. Officially launched in February 2015 featuring “urban-themed” series and movies, the service, which is now known only as Umc, is part of a suite of channels and streamers owned by AMC Networks, after the media company acquired Rlj in late 2018.
