Exclusive: On April 18th of this year, at a parole board hearing in New Hampshire, convicted murderer James Parker was granted parole for his role in the brutal 2001 stabbing murders of Half and Suzanne Zantop, a pair of married Dartmouth professors. After acquiring rights to Judgment Ridge, a work of nonfiction detailing the chilly story of those murders, producers Randy and Steven Toll have enlisted Matthew Gentile (American Murderer) to direct a feature adaptation from his own script.
Written by Dick Lehr and Mitchell Zuckoff, Judgment Ridge evokes clear memories of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, as it delves deeply into the inexplicable behavior that led to these ruthless murders. It was at age 16 that Parker conspired with his best friend to commit the murders of the Zantrops. He and co-conspirator Robert Tulloch came to commit the crime after plotting to put together the $10,000 they needed to move to...

“The Parent Trap” meets “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” with “Dicks: The Musical,” A24’s first forray into movie musicals. Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson star in the adaptation of their Off-Broadway show as two womanizing, misogynistic business salesmen who, when their companies merge, find out they are long-lost identical twins. The pair, then, hatch a plan to swap lives and get their parents back together, a task that proves much harder (and weirder) than they thought. Also starring Nathan Lane, Megan Mullaly, Megan Thee Stallion, and Bowen Yang, “Dicks: The Musical” will make its streaming debut on Friday, Feb. 2 on Max. You can watch with a 7-Day Free Trial of Max.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” now streaming on Disney+.
The first season of the long-awaited “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series on Disney+ has come to a close, and it ended the same way Rick Riordan’s first book did: Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) part ways before the school year, knowing that they’ll reunite in the not-so-distant future with a bit more world-saving to do. But the journey to get there was often unpredictable, even for fans of the novel.
Most notably, Percy fails his quest. He and his friends miss the summer solstice deadline to find and return Zeus’ (the late Lance Reddick) stolen master lightning bolt, kicking off a war between Zeus and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) — and marking the series’ biggest departure from the book. Still, the kids plunge...

Despite some initial confusion over the series premiere date and time, Percy Jackson fans showed up in full force, with the series pulling in 13.3 million viewers in its first 6 days on Disney+ and Hulu. While only the first episode of the series is available to watch on Hulu, Percy Jackson and the Olympians still came out as one of the top five most watched season premieres of the year on both streaming services.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the middle-grade books of the same name, follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he learns about a reality, hidden from mortals, where Greek gods and monsters are very real and very dangerous. As a demigod, Percy’s role in this world is bigger than he could have imagined, and he’s almost instantly thrust into a quest to save the world from a war between the gods.

This article contains spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 3.
In the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, prophecies are a big deal. The oracle who resides at Camp Half-Blood doesn’t just give them out willy nilly, they are given to those that fate has deemed worthy. For the demigods of Camp Half-Blood, a prophecy typically signals the beginning of a quest, and the chance to prove oneself in the eyes of their deified parent.
Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) receives his first prophecy not long after he first arrives at Camp Half-Blood. He, Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri) are tasked with retrieving Zeus’ missing lightning bolt before the Summer Solstice and stopping an impending war between the gods. Before they set off, Percy receives valuable insight from the Oracle, though it’s not clear what parts of the prophecy mean.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium,” Episode 3 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”
This story also contains a discussion of sexual assault.
For fans of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books, Medusa represents one of Percy’s first big victories: After being tricked into spending time with “Aunty Em,” he beheads the snake-haired woman, and her cursed, dead eyeballs are later used to turn another enemy into stone.
But for those with a deeper knowledge of Greek mythology, and for many women, Medusa is a symbol of something darker.
In many tellings of the original myth, Medusa is a human woman who takes a vow of celibacy out of devotion to Athena, the goddess of wisdom. However, Medusa eventually enters a relationship with sea god Poseidon that becomes sexual one night. Some interpretations, beginning with the Roman poet Ovid’s,...

The series premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians left some fans confused after Disney+ decided to drop the first two episodes of the series the night before they were originally scheduled to premiere. Some eagle-eyed fans found hints that the show would be arriving early on Dec. 19 instead of Dec. 20, but there was no formal confirmation that this would be the release schedule until episodes 1 and 2 appeared on Disney+.
While the early arrival of Percy Jackson episodes was a welcome surprise for many, it also left some fans confused and scrambling to change their plans so they wouldn’t miss out.

Lyrics that include the words “dick,” “fuck” and “pussy” are not the typical wholesome, family content the Academy’s Music Branch tends to recognize. But occasionally, they have allowed a couple to slip through. A24’s “Dicks: The Musical,” the opening night Midnight Madness at TIFF, has an onslaught of hilarious and catchy tunes that I wish the Oscars would be brave enough to nominate.
With so many hilarious tracks to choose from, including “Gay Old Life” and “The Sewer Song,” Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion brings down the house with her delivery on the rap and dance number “Out-Alpha the Alpha.” It could and should be one of the many songs to consider for this year’s Academy Awards, and distributor A24 confirms they’ll submit the movie for Oscar consideration.

First Time Female Director lead star, writer and director, Chelsea Peretti is a lot of things.
A talented stand-up comedian who can consistently make audiences (including myself) laugh. An energetic character actor who can make even the mundane whacky as evidenced by her character, Gina Linetti, in the police procedural comedy, Brooklyn 99. A sharp and hilarious writer as seen in series like Parks and Recreation and Kroll Show. She is clearly talented in a lot of fields, but unfortunately, I don’t believe that directing is one of them.
Despite First Time Female Director having more than a handful of moments that made me chuckle, and even laugh at times, this is a film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, that feels incredibly amateurish and bare-bones in terms of story, presentation and cohesiveness.

While Benny and Josh Safdie continue to search for cast members for their next Netflix film, Deadline says rapper/actress Megan Thee Stallion is in talks to join the project. This news comes from multiple sources close to the project. However, Netflix is reluctant to confirm our suspicions. The streamer, and the film’s creators, are staying quiet about the specifics of the film. In other words, we don’t have a title, plot synopsis, or other potential casting calls. Thankfully, Adam Sandler is giving news hounds a scrap of information by saying the story revolves around the world of sports memorabilia. Benny and Josh Safdie will co-direct from a script they wrote and will produce the film, with plans to shoot this summer.

It’s a great time to love vintage TV. Not only can you stream almost every show, but a lot of the great shows are back with their original casts. Fuller House sort of started the ball rolling with other ‘80s and ‘90s TV sitcoms looking for a revival.

While fans of any show would consider their revival the best, Showbiz Cheat Sheet tried to take a more objective view. Here are the five best sitcom revivals, with an honorable mention for Night Court because it only has one original cast member but still follows the format successfully.

After a 13-year hiatus, the third season of “Party Down” premiered on Starz last month, proving it’s still the most underrated laugh riot on TV. The series boasts an all-star cast including Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge and Megan Mullally, working as caterers whose hopes at Hollywood superstardom have been dashed.
With a stellar rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ consensus reads, “Returning after a long layoff, Party Down brings patient fans a third season that’s every bit as sharp — and laugh-out-loud funny — as its predecessors.” Ignored by major awards shows for its first two cycles, the comedy created by John Enbom, Dan Etheridge, Paul Rudd and Rob Thomas won the AFI TV Program of the Year Award in 2010, where they called it “wickedly funny” and “television’s best-kept secret.” Read our review roundup for Season 3 below.

Leslie Jordan's cause of death has been confirmed as a "sudden cardiac dysfunction."
The Call Me Kat star died on October 24 when a medical event caused him to crash his car into a building in Hollywood.
At the time of the incident, it was suspected that the actor and comedian had suffered a medical emergency while driving.
"The world is definitely a much darker place today without the love and light of Leslie Jordan," the actor's spokesperson said in a statement at the time.
"Not only was he a mega talent and joy to work with, but he provided an emotional sanctuary to the nation at one of its most difficult times."
"What he lacked in height he made up for in generosity and greatness as a son, brother, artist, comedian, partner and human being."

Television has provided unrealistic standards of life’s many truths for as long as it’s existed — from being able to hang out in a coffee shop during the work day to going on thousands of dates in a single year. But one of the most bothersome standards TV has warped audiences into thinking is what kind of apartment New Yorkers today can realistically afford.
Millions of residents live in the five boroughs, and more people move there every day with dreams of getting a 212 area code and a mailing address in the big city. If only they knew what they were actually in for. The 15 TV characters ranked below lease or own apartments that have become characters in and of themselves, leading New York natives and newbies alike to think they can afford an apartment like Monica Geller’s from “Friends” or Hannah Horvath’s from “Girls.” So, exactly...

Jean Smart is a legendary actor with a career that spans decades, but she has shockingly never won a SAG Award. This year she aims to change that fact thanks to her dynamite take-no-prisoners role in HBO Max’s “Hacks.” Will she soon be able to add “SAG Award winner” to her impressive list of accomplishments?
It’s odd that Smart hasn’t prevailed with her peers in the actor’s union considering the Emmys have been going gaga over her for years. The actress has racked up an astounding eleven Emmy nominations, winning four times: twice as Guest Comedy Actress for “Frasier,” once as Supporting Comedy Actress for “Samantha Who?,” and finally for Lead Comedy Actress for “Hacks.”
SAG hasn’t fawned over the actress in the same way. These awards don’t have categories for guest performers, so that eliminates several of her notable TV roles from contention.

“What’s going on with our girls?” asks the emotionally drained mother of a tween girl in James Ponsoldt’s Summering. As any parent (or relative) of a pre-teen can attest, that’s a complex question with no simple answer. The manner in which Ponsoldt answers said question is ultimately what sinks Summering, a ho-hum coming-of-age dramedy. Summering does not trust that its characters will hold the attention of its audience—a crucial miscalculation that derails this Sundance entry that is certainly promising on paper.
That miscalculation is the decision to force a murder-mystery subplot into a sweet story of four friends’ final days before the start of middle school. No surprise seeing that type of useless diversion wedged into the film. What is a surprise, though, is the degree to which that mystery takes over and ultimately dominates Summering. Perhaps this film, scripted by Ponsoldt and Benjamin Percy, is...

Ahead of its Season 2 premiere, Fox has renewed animated comedy The Great North, from Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, for a third season.
The early renewal comes as Fox continues to double down on animation. It follows renewals of animated series including Bob’s Burgers, Duncanville, Family Guy and The Simpsons and new series Housebroken.
The Great North follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as a single dad, Beef, voiced by Nick Offerman, does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close – especially his only daughter, Judy (Jenny Slate), whose artistic dreams lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall.
Cancellations/Renewals Scorecard: TV Shows Ended Or Continuing In 2020-21 Season
Rounding out the family are Judy’s older brother, Wolf, (Will Forte) and his fiancé, Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), her middle brother, Ham (Paul Rust), and ten-year-old-going-on-fifty little brother,...

Fox has renewed the animated comedy “The Great North” for a second season before the first has even aired.
The show was ordered to straight-to-series last year and is currently slated to debut at midseason in 2021. It hails from Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin from “Bob’s Burgers” as well as Minty Lewis. “Bob’s Burgers” creator Loren Bouchard executive produces.
“Wendy, Lizzie, Minty and Loren delivered a show that embodies our animation brand so strongly, they left us no choice but to give this stellar series an early renewal ahead of its midseason debut,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment for Fox Entertainment. “Of course, we’d also like to thank our friends at 20th, who continue to be tremendous partners.”

Fox has renewed animated comedy The Great North, from Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, ahead of its premiere.
The renewal of the show, which is set to launch midseason, comes as Fox continues to double down on animation. The network has been aggressively ramping up its slate of animation over the last few years with the likes of Bless The Harts, Duncanville, Housebroken and a new series from Rick and Morty co-creator joining the likes of The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers.
Earlier this year, Fox’s President of Entertainment Michael Thorn told Deadline that animation was a “key part” of its business and it wants to build on this legacy.

Welcome to a special edition of “The Big Ticket,” Variety and iHeart’s movie podcast.
I’m calling it “Frozen 2” Day because the new episode features interviews with the stars of the Disney sequel, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff and Evan Rachel Wood as well as co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and producer Peter Del Vecho.
Here are some of the highlights…
Kristen Bell says “Frozen’s” impact goes way beyond what kids get out of it. “There have been numerous times that people in our team have heard of adults being in a really low place and said, ‘I was considering suicide, and I saw “Frozen” and I realized I can be me,’” she said.
Bell’s new show for Disney Plus, “Encore,” reunites former high school theater club members to perform their school musical. “There’s so few things that unite us all, but...

“Will & Grace” executive producers Max Mutchnick, David Kohan and James Burrows, in conjunction with the cast, have decided to end the “Will & Grace” reboot on NBC with the 2020 season, its third season that follows an original eight-season run.
“We think of the ‘Will & Grace’ reboot episodes the way Karen Walker thinks of martinis – 51 is not enough, 53 is too many,” they said in a joint statement. “That is why, after consulting with the cast, we all have decided this will be the final season of ‘Will & Grace.’”
The comedy, starring Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullaly, initially aired for eight seasons on NBC from 1998 to 2006, before being rebooted 11 years later in 2017.
“In 2016, Bob Greenblatt came to us with the idea of doing a 10-episode reboot of ‘Will & Grace,’” said Mutchnick, Kohan and Burrows. “They say you can’t go home again, but we did.

Megan Mullaly showing one of her dad's residual checks from SAGMegan Mullally served as host for the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards with a droll, endearingly casual approach, often making Lady Gaga the brunt of good natured jokes. But as with most awards show she got out of the way very early. SAG is all awards and no frills. They even shortened the "I am an actor" intro this year, limiting it to just three people. There's no awards show that's faster than SAG but the continually nervous Oscar producers might want to consider, when trying to shorten their own ceremony, that SAG is not even a fraction as popular as the Globes or Oscars, both of which are considerably longer!

“It’s such a wonderfully original character that she creates: this sexually androgynous, tough as nails, ball-busting comedy manager,” Zach Laws says about Alex Borstein in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” But can she win the Emmy for Best Comedy Supporting Actress? According to Gold Derby’s latest predictions, she’s a slight underdog, ranked second with odds of 14/5. Laws joined me and our fellow Gold Derby contributors Riley Chow, Tony Ruiz and Tom O’Brien for an Emmy predictions slugfest to debate the race (watch above).
“Alex Borstein got two nominations, and she’s not one of those people who’s nominated every single year for voice-over. So the fact that they put her back in the category speaks volume for her,” I point out. Borstein was last nominated for Best Character Voice-Over Performance for her work in”Family Guy” in 2013, but she’s back in that race this year,...

Frankly, we think Kate McKinnon is going to go three-for-three, but who else makes the field is quite intriguing. Alex Borstein seems like a lock and former winners Laurie Metcalf and Megan Mullaly seem likely as well. The big question is will the controversy over Jeffrey Tambor and “Transparent” affect Judith Light’s chances at a third straight nomination? Ponder.
