Where does Survivor find these people?
No, that's not a rhetorical question. We really want to know.
When the long-running reality show returns for its 32nd season, Survivor: Kaoh Rong, on Feb. 17, they've found a new batch of contestants to compete for the $1 million prize. Survivor's strength has always been in its casting, and, by the looks of this crew, they may have done it again.
There's a bounty hunter from Detroit, a Minnesota ER doctor, a semi-retired NBA player and a female bodybuilder from Georgia. There's a 19-year-old student and a 72-year-old(!) former FBI agent from Florida.

"Survivor" Season 31 (yes, can you believe it?) is now airing, and "Survivor: Second Chance" is one of the best competitions CBS has ever aired. Maybe it's the returning players, all "losers" hungry for a win, or the many twists that have only improved the gameplay and have yet to feel like desperate gimmicks. It's rare to have so many players pushing to win, with very different strategies, and we can't wait to see who ends up the sole survivor of "Survivor: Cambodia."
Who will it be?
Well, the edits certainly give us some hints. For example, we could've told you it wouldn't be Kelly Wiglesworth even before she was eliminated in Episode 9, since she had almost no screen time, including confessionals. Spencer Bledsoe is still the confessional king. The producers have him narrating the season, like this is his story and everyone else is a supporting player. Then again,...

Survivor: Second Chance recap “You Call, We’ll Haul,” Season 31, Episode 8 (original airdate Nov. 11): It’s day 20 and we’re down to 12. “Brilliant plan. Executed to perfection,” Andrew Savage tells Jeremy. He’s referring to voting off Kass. Their plan for the go forward is to keep their alliance intact and stay the course picking off the Ciera’s, Abi’s and Wentworth’s. That, however, wouldn’t be the case. Reward Challenge Two teams of six were formed. They need to paddle and navigate a row boat, while grabbing some obnoxiously sized crates and then stack them in a puzzle pattern onshore. … Continue reading →

On the last episode of Survivor: Cambodia, we saw the game's biggest merge in the history of the show with 13 players. Now, Chaos Kass is gone, so that means that things are going to be more peaceful around camp, right? Wrong. Let's see what fresh trouble these all stars can get themselves into now that their biggest pot-stirrer is safely watching them from the jury.

For a show in its 31st season, Survivor has managed to keep things remarkably fresh and new.
A lot of the credit goes to host Jeff Probst and the producers, who throw in a liberal amount of twists and turns so that contestants never truly know what's coming. Over the years, we've seen tribal swaps, fake merges, hidden immunity idols and double eliminations. (We're going to pretend that Redemption Island and the outcast twist never happened.)
But sometimes, the twists are not masterminded by the producers. Contestants have come up with ingenious strategies to change the game.

This week "Survivor: Second Chance" threw us another curve ball by creating the largest merge in the game's history, made up of 13 second chancers. Kass McQuillen couldn't keep the chaos at bay and paid the ultimate price, becoming the first member of the jury. Woo Hwang came into this season of Survivor with a lot of baggage.
When the 31-year-old martial arts instructor played in Survivor: Cagayan, he made a colossal mistake in taking eventual winner Tony Vlachos to the finals even though he may have had a better chance against Kass McQuillen, who had rubbed some of the contestants the wrong way.
That choice cost him the game.
During his second chance, Hwang's game never really got off the ground. He went to nearly every tribal council and watched as his allies were voted off.

According to current Gold Derby odds, Kass McQuillen has leading 13/10 odds to be the first elimination of the new merged tribe. This is the worst way to leave "Survivor." To promote tonight's October 28 "Bunking With the Devil" episode of "Survivor: Cambodia," aka Season 31, "Survivor: Second Chance," CBS teased, "One castaway is pulled from the game due to a family emergency; the players drop their buffs for a second time and switch tribes; players chow down on local delicacies to win immunity."
The promo showed Jeff Probst visiting one tribe at night, which is never a good thing. We heard Kass McQuillen say having someone go home like this is worse than anything you can imagine in "Survivor." And when Chaos Kass gets emotional you know things are serious.
What happened?
They showed it at the start of the episode, on Day 13 of the game. Terry Deitz, 55, of "Survivor: Panama" was pulled from the game when his son Danny was said to be seriously ill and hospitalized. Terry's wife called production and,...

Rumor has it that there was a contestant named Monica Padilla on this season of Survivor – although it's not surprising if you didn't notice.
For whatever reason, the editors of Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance chose to hide her for much of the season, giving her hardly any airtime. When she finally did get some confessionals on Episode 5, she went home.
It was a surprising lack of character development for a smart contestant who could have been lethal. Before the season began, several of this season's contestants told People that they were afraid that Padilla would aggressively walk away with the game.

For 36 hours after being voted onto the all-star season of “Survivor: Second Chance” in a live TV special last May, the cast of the CBS reality hit were sequestered in a hotel, preparing to depart for Cambodia. Without TV, phones, or Internet, they didn’t even have any idea how the moment played out on TV. However, during the L.A. press availability for Season 31, TheWrap asked returning “Survivor” alums including Kelly Wigglesworth, Kass McQuillen, Spencer Bledsoe, Stephen Fischbach, Terry Dietz, Jeff Varner and Andrew Savage to watch and respond to the news they had been hoping for — some of them for 15 years.

Well, this should be fun.
CBS has released the first details of Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance, and the season sure looks like a winner.
In May, America voted for the cast of the long-running franchise's 31st season. They chose 10 men and 10 women who had competed once before but hadn't won the game.
By and large, America got it right, although the omission of Survivor: Africa's Teresa Cooper was a heartbreaker.
Still, multiple sources have told People that the season turned out to be one of the franchise's strongest in its 31-season history. Here's what to expect:

A new "Survivor" champ has been crowned and the winner is ... Mike Holloway! The Texas oil driller walked away with the million dollar check during the landmark 30th season of "Survivor: Worlds Apart," and after that finale, there was no doubt that the 38-year-old would take home the top prize. This season, the competitors were divided into tribes based on their social class: white collar, blue collar and no collar. Holloway was a member of the blue collar tribe, Escameca, ending up in the top three with Carolyn Rivera and Will Sims. He beat out his competition in all three challenges and got some help from an unexpected guest ... his mom! Congrats on being the Sole Survivor, Mike! Besides crowning a winner, host Jeff Probst also revealed the cast of season 31 of the hit series, which will feature fan-favorites from previous seasons of the show. Kelly Wigglesworth (Season 1)Kimmi Kappenberg...

Rather than selecting returning players unilaterally and listening to fans complain about the latest return for Rupert or a confusing return for a castaway even superfans don't remember, "Survivor" has left the decision somewhat up to America to determine the 20 castaways for Season 31. On Wednesday (May 6) at the end of the latest episode of the less-than-lackluster "Survivor: Worlds Apart," CBS formally announced what had long been rumored across the Interwebs. There are 32 candidates up for the "Second Chance" season. As the word "second" implies, this season will only be open to one-time former players who didn't win, so all of your Hantzes and Ruperts are out. Thank God. Instead, this group of 32 includes contestants going back to original "Survivor: Borneo" runner-up Kelly Wigglesworth. And then there are five candidates from the current season, including two who haven't been eliminated yet, which is either an annoying spoiler or not, but I'm...

In its 30 seasons, Survivor has worked hard to keep things fresh.
Each season has included twists and turns, keeping contestants – and viewers – on their toes. "Sometimes, people love what we do," host Jeff Probst told People in February. "Sometimes, they just want to throw things at us."
For the show's 31st season, producers have come up with one of the show's biggest twists: letting fans of the show choose the 20 castaways who will compete.
Voting opens on Wednesday and continues for two weeks. Fans can visit Survivor's website to view personal videos from the 32 finalists – all contestants who have played the game once before,...

There were supposed to be 10 pairs of loved ones competing on this season’s Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water (which debuts Sept. 24 on CBS). But then, just days before filming began in Nicaragua, one of the couples was forced to bow out after a last minute-medical check turned up something that gave the Survivor medics pause. The same thing actually happened during the last Blood vs. Water season when Rc Saint-Amour and her father had to drop out while on location due to medical reasons involving the dad. In the days since Tony Vlachos won the $1 million prize on Survivor: Cagayan, he has had some time to think.
Portrayed as a villain, he made a lot of promises he didn't keep – swearing on his wife, baby, father and even his police badge. And things turned ugly: During the final tribal council, his closest ally, Trish Hegarty, ripped into him for his untrustworthiness.
There were consequences outside the game, as well. Vlachos, a 40-year-old cop from Jersey City, has been in the center of a local debate after a congressional hopeful said that he should be fired for lying on TV.
