A stuntwoman, stunt coordinator and actor, Zoë Bell (Kill Bill, Death Proof) is on board to direct the upcoming action-survival thriller Free Fall, Variety has reported this morning.
Zachary Levi (Shazam) will star in the upcoming film. From XYZ Films, Free Fall “tells the story of a father’s attempt to reconcile with his estranged daughter on a rock-climbing trip that turns deadly as an accident leaves them stranded hundreds of feet in the air.”
Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker wrote the screenplay.
“This script is the perfect combo of heartfelt and heart-stopping,” Zoë Bell said in a statement shared by Variety. “Between the producing team, the cast and the New Zealand crews, words don’t do justice to how thrilled I am to be bringing this film home.”

An unknown man sits in the menacing glow of his open laptop. We know he's a man of class as he sips espressos and martinis. Only a man of refined taste would indulge in such decadent beverages. Other than these small details he's a man of mystery. We only hear his fake accent, taunting his victim on the other end of the phone line. This victimc Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) and his day is about to go from bad... to worse. Not too long ago, Brent and his wife moved to Sofia, Bulgaria in an effort to leave his old life behind. It was a life that began as a race car driver before he "washed out" and turned to a life of crime, a life he isn't at all proud of. However, his skills as a driver will be put to the test once again as he comes home...

Getaway kicks off with a rip-roaring car chase through the busy streets of Bulgaria with dozens of police hot on Ethan Hawke’s tail. About ten minutes later there’s another rip-roaring car chase through the busy streets of Bulgaria with dozens of police hot on Hawke’s tail. Then another. Getaway starts spinning its wheels early and not only never recovers, it just keeps getting worse and worse until it’s to the point where it’s so awful it’s almost great. But no.….it’s just awful.
Ethan Hawke is Brent Magna, a former racecar driver forced to steal a Shelby Mustang Super Snake loaded with surveillance equipment and follow the remote orders of “The Voice”, a mysterious kidnapper played by Jon Voight, (or at least played by the many close-ups of Mr. Voight’s jaw) who’s watching Magna’s every move through the cameras and microphones mounted within the car.

And thus does a summer that started with a silly car chase picture end with a sillier one."Getaway" has some of the elements of a good gear grinder -- a B-movie where a car takes a pivotal role in the cast.
It's got Ethan Hawke, doing enough of his own driving to pass muster with the likes of Ryan Gosling ("Drive"), Dax Shepard ("Hit and Run"), or Paul Walker ("Fast & Furious"). It's got a cool car -- a Shelby Super Snake version of the Ford Mustang.
It has an unusual city setting -- Sofia, Bulgaria.
And then Selena Gomez shows up as the mouthy, tech-savvy sidekick dragged along for a long, Christmas season chase through the not-quite-generic (tramlines, train tracks) mean streets of Sofia.
That's where the silly kicks in. Things turn pulse-pounding in the third act, but that's entirely too late to rescue this end-of-summer orphan.

You know how Hollywood car chases can sometimes be chaotic, loud, smashy, and too overbearing? Well, Getaway is about 90 minutes of that forced upon you through Add-styled filmmaking, as we enter the driver’s seat of a souped up Shelby Super Snake Mustang in the very first scene, and we’re never let back out. The film might have been better titled “Courtney Solomon Shows Us How Many Ways He Can Flip A Car,” or “Try To Catch This Car Chasing Action While Your Head Spins,” or simply “Vroom Vroom, Bang Bang, Explosion Sounds, Let Me Out!” There’s often pleasure to be found in simplicity, especially concerning the action genre, but unfortunately this fast and furious thrill ride is much better at causing headaches, confusion, and unwanted laughs. F*ck it, get out of here, just drive!

When Justin Bieber's favorite actress, Selena Gomez, survives a bad B-movie with more dignity than her costar, Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, the end times must be near. Hawke is Brent Magna, a failed race car driver turned crook turned reformed husband who returns to his Sofia, Bulgaria, apartment to find that his wife has been kidnapped. By cell phone, a mystery man (Jon Voight) orders Magna to steal a smokin' hot Shelby GT500 Super Snake Mustang and drive it recklessly—endangering Christmas revelers citywide—as ordered, or the wife dies. The villain has more on his mind than killing pedestrians, but since their hero is a washed-out depressive (a Hawke specialty), screenwriters Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker provide Magna with a brainy passenger known as The Kid (Gomez...

After running a trailer for the action thriller Getaway starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez last month, we realized this was actually the same trailer which arrived in June. That just goes to show you how memorable the film seems to be. Sadly, this second trailer isn't much more engaging and it just highlights the explosions, car crashes and senseless plot following a getaway driver (Hawke) told he must follow directions from a mysterious guy on the phone to save his wife. And Gomez plays a little troublemaker who gets caught up in the nonsense along the way. Yeah, this definitely looks super silly and plainly ridiculous. If you did a double-take when you first heard that Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez were in a movie together, or raised your eyebrows when you then heard that the Getaway movie wasn’t about something involving angst-riddled teens and heart-wrenching drama… and, if you thought a selection of new images would clue you in to something beyond cars, explosions, and moody pictures of Hawke and Gomez very near each other… well, frankly, I’ve lost my train of thought.
However it all works out, this Getaway movie looks fantastic. There’s probably a really good reason that Gomez’ character has a custom Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake for Hawke to steal, but… no, I’m kidding.
Still, it may be fun. Have a look at some hot new images, and get ready to choke on everything you ever said about Selena Gomez’ acting ability.

You can't Getaway from these new images from the Courtney Solomon action thriller. The Warner Bros. release, which we had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Solomon for at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, opens on August 30th, and looks like a rivetting ride. On board are Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez, Jon Voight, Paul Freeman, Bruce Payne and Rebecca Budig. Exclusive Getaway Comic-Con Interview with Director Courtney Solomon Courtney Soloman has a knack for making small things big. As a director, he's just made his third film, Getaway, a driving thriller that stars Ethan Hawke, Jon Voight, and, wait for it, Selena Gomez. But he's been involved with dozens of low-to-mid-range budget films, turning out the sort of horror and action films that the major studios rarely focus on these days. It's a business model that pays off, and as a result, Getaway has ended up being one of the largest movies in his canon, and one that's getting a worldwide distribution deal from Warner Bros. Soloman sat down with Upcoming-Movies.com at this year's Comic-Con to talk about casting Ethan Hawke, turning a profit on smaller films, and why he decided to give Selena Gomez a grown-up role. Warner Bros. Pictures' Getaway opens in theaters on August 30th, 2013. Also on board Getaway,...

Lately it seems that Ethan Hawke has found success with lower key horror films like The Purge and Sinister, and now he's taking his talents to action. Getaway follows Hawke as a former race car driver working against the clock to get his kidnapped wife back. It's a pretty generic plot, but the high speed action might offer some kind of fun. Selena Gomez continues to stray away from her Disney image following Spring Breakers, but this doesn't necessarily look like anything impressive. Coming from the director of the sloppy adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons from the year 2000, we weren't expecting much anyway. Watch! Actor Ethan Hawke’s career has always been an interesting one to film fans, with performances in films by Sidney Lumet and Antoine Fuqua interspersed with key roles in movies such as Dead Poets Society and Gattaca. The actor’s range and role selection is particularly on display in 2013, as Hawke leads three distinctly different movies, one of which is a romance, the other of which is a horror, and the third an action film. Titled Getaway, the latter sees co-writers Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker make their feature film writing debut, with Hawke joined in the cast by Selena Gomez, Jon Voight, and Paul Freeman. The first trailer for the feature has now been released, and can be seen below.

Solomon and Levy direct the whole thing from a script written by Gregg Maxwell Parker and Sean Finegan, and just in case you still have some doubts about this project we’re here to remind you that this film is actually an original story, and has nothing to do with the 1972 film The Getaway which starred Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw.
