This week marks the 20th anniversary of one of the most iconic gross-out moments in reality TV: Gervase Peterson eating grub worms on the second episode of the first season of “Survivor.” The date was June 7, 2000. Gervase’s Pagong tribe had won the previous week’s inaugural immunity challenge and was spared from voting someone out at tribal council, so they came into this second challenge with a lot to lose. All they had to do was eat grub worms faster than their Tagi tribe counterparts, and a fresh-faced Jeff Probst would give them the immunity idol again. How did it all play out? Watch the “Survivor: Borneo” flashback video above.
SEESonja Christopher still a ‘Survivor’ fan 20 years after being first person voted off: Tony Vlachos is a ‘loose cannon’ but ‘it worked for him’
“In Borneo this is considered like sushi,” Jeff explained as he revealed the fish bowl filled with dirty beetle larvae.

Monica Culpepper made it all the way to the very end of Survivor: Blood vs. Water, and ended up taking home the $100,000 second place prize after getting the one vote that did not go to winner Tyson Apostol. But the season ended on a bittersweet note, as she was hammered at the final Tribal Council, and not over any moves she did or did not make, but rather just for the type of person she was. We spoke with Monica the morning after the Survivor finale to get her thoughts on what went down, and she tells us about the painful ordeal,...

In many "Survivor" seasons, Katie Collins would have been the first person voted out. Her tribe lost the first challenge and she took responsibility for a big part of that failing. Instead, Brad Culpepper and his male alliance targeted Marissa and Katie was off on a surprisingly long run that ended on this week's episode only after a Duel in which her mother, Season 2 winner Tina Wesson, offered repeatedly to let her take second and stay in the game for another day or two. Katie declined her mother's offer and, months later, she sounds pretty comfortable with that...

John Cody lasted a long time on "Survivor's" Redemption Island this season, just missing re-entering the game at the merge when he lost the final duel. He tells Zap2it that it was frustrating to be faced with a challenge that clearly did not favor him.
Are you glad you did "Survivor"? Was it everything you hoped it would be?
"It wasn't everything I hoped it would be because I hoped to be sitting at the end and pleading my case at the final tribal council, but I'm definitely glad that I did it. It was an awesome experience, a great opportunity. And even though things didn't work out the way I hoped, it still was incredible."
You lasted so long on Redemption Island, how frustrating was it to lose to someone who had not been there very long?

Brad Culpepper was the latest eliminated castaway on "Survivor: Blood vs. Water." He tells Zap2it that the game wasn't hard at all and he's really not like how some of his fellow castmates thought he was.
Are you glad you went on "Survivor"? Was it harder than you thought it would be?
"I loved every minute of it. It was not hard at all. Playing close to 10 years in the NFL is very hard. That's my job, that's my life and the pressure that goes along with it is severe. Being a parent of teenagers is pressure-filled.

Candice Cody was one of the first people voted out of "Survivor: Blood vs. Water," as she was shipped off to Redemption Island by her tribe of returning castaways before the game even really started. She tells Zap2it that being out there with a loved one turns you into a crazy person.
Are you glad you returned to "Survivor," even if you got sent to Redemption Island right away?
"Yeah. I mean, that was the really tough break to have 30 seconds into the game. I showed up less than 24 hours before the game was going to start. Everyone else had been there for four or five days, counting up their numbers and figuring out who they wanted to work with. It was a tough break. But I was glad to have the opportunity to come out and play and ... to have the experience with my husband is beyond, it's out of this world.

The third time was definitely not the charm for Candice Cody (formerly Woodcock). She returned to play again alongside her husband John for Survivor: Blood vs. Water, yet found herself voted out of her tribe mere minutes into the game. Yet the threepeat offender managed to last all the way to day 11 due to her dominance at Redemption Island. However, her skill/luck finally ran out, losing to hubby John and arch-nemesis Brad Culpepper in a duel. Candice called into Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105) this morning to talk all about it. And there was a lot to talk about.

The Walking Dead returned on Sunday. And not only is it the first episode of season 4, but it will also mark the first episode of the Scott M. Gimple era. Gimple, a writer on the past two seasons of the AMC drama, replaces Glen Mazzara as showrunner. Mazzara, of course, himself replaced original showrunner Frank Darbaont. So there has been quite a bit of replacing going on. It’s kind of like a semi-famous Minneapolis punk band or a goofy Keanu Reeves movie.

Marissa Peterson never really had a chance in this "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" season. Well, she had a chance, but the chance got messed up pretty quickly. She responded negatively to future tribal ringleader Brad at the very first grouping of the castaways, putting a target on her back. Then, when the Returning players defeated the Newbies in the first Immunity of the season, Marissa's uncle Gervase, a veteran of the very first American "Survivor" season, made a display of enthusiasm that rubbed Brad the wrong way and made the target even bigger. Wednesday night's episode of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains saw the biggest upset so far this season, as Caleb boldly and publicly orchestrated the ouster of the Tadhana Tribe's ringleader Brad. Now, Et is catching up with former Tadhana member Marissa, who may have lost her Redemption Island Duel, but not her frustration with Brad. Read on to hear her explain why she thinks Brad is responsible for Tadhana's troubles, and her dish about her surprisingly close bond with Redemption cohort Candice.

“F— you, Brad Culpepper!” That was Marissa Peterson while she was playing Survivor: Blood vs. Water after Brad engineered her ouster from the tribe. She called into Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105) to share her thoughts with Jessica Shaw and me on the man that has angered so many in so little time. “One Armed Dude and Three Moms”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Brilliant. In a season filled with twists, it’s the simple moves that can change the game. After watching his fiancé quit last week, Caleb steps out of the shadows and executes a stunning move at Tribal Council. Nothing ever happens at Tribal Council! When change-ups occur, they usually use the immunity idol. This move involves doing math and realizing it wouldn’t take much to kick out the figurehead. By announcing his vote for Brad in front of everyone, Caleb realizes he can sway the girls’ votes and create a 3-3 tie. Players don’t want to pull rocks, so the odds of taking out Brad are very good. There’s a chance that everyone votes out Caleb, but that still leaves the guys in power. It makes little sense for Katie...

Look, you can sigh in relief that Colton Cumbie‘s exit from the show last week spared us a season’s worth of his humiliating antics. Sure. Well, get this: Since Colton left, everyone else on the show is suddenly meaner. Not kidding! It’s balanced out nicely. Almost poetically. It’s reality TV Zen, actually.

Marissa Peterson became the latest Survivor: Blood vs. Water castaway sent home in Wednesday night's episode. The 21-year-old student from Chapel Hill, N.C, lost at Redemption Island to married couple John and Candice Cody, leading to her elimination. When we last left our "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" castaways, two people had gone home -- Colton claims he quit to help Caleb's game. Uh huh. Who will go home tonight?

Candice is understandably dismayed to find her husband arriving at their Redemption camp. He's like, "Sorry you've been here without me" and she's like, "Dude, it's not good that we're both here." We appreciate the sentiment, but c'mon, John.
The next morning at the duel, Candice is mad at John's tribe, saying she wished it was Brad who walked into Redemption. The show's editing acts like her saying he's "somebody she could hate" and calling him a "child" is akin to her running over his dog with a truck or something. It's a game, gang. Calm down.

When we last left our "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" castaways, Rachel had been voted to Redemption Island in the hopes that Tyson would leave Galang in order to save her.
Galang
At approximately 6 a.m. in the morning, Colton wants to decide who is going to sit out the next challenge. "I love 'Survivor' blah blah nobody wants to strategize blah blah this is so boring blah blah." Oh, spare me, Colton. Just take a pill, dude. As Aras says, just relax and enjoy yourself for a while. You'll have plenty of time to wheel and deal later.
Why in God's name does this guy not play "Big Brother"? He seems ready-made for those shenanigans. "Survivor" is clearly not for him.
(No) Redemption Island (for Colton)
Interestingly, Tyson totally has Tadhana's strategy pegged as to why they voted out Rachel. Rachel tells Tyson not to switch places with her, so he does not.

Survivor Review, Season 27, Episode 2
“Rule in Chaos”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
During the early stages of Survivor, luck plays a huge role in determining players’ fates. The votes can knock out people who barely get a chance to compete. An alliance forms and starts taking out the others, and it’s a scramble to grab a chair before the music stops. The Blood vs. Water twists have added new reasons to vote out a fellow tribe member. Instead of just targeting weak players and potential threats, the majority must look at the other tribe. The change allowing players to substitute for their loved ones creates the scenario of removing someone to entice a strong opponent to “pull a Rupert” and jeopardize their game. This fate befalls Tyson’s girlfriend Rachel this week, and it’s frustrating to watch a good competitor leave so early. It may lead to great drama next time,...

Each week, host Jeff Probst will answer a few questions about the most recent episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water.
Entertainment Weekly: So, I need some clarification here, sir, on one of the twists. It was my understanding that any one of the loved ones of someone at Redemption Island can sub in before a duel if they like, but we only saw you asking Gervase if he’d like to take Marissa’s place. Is it only the most recent person that was sent there that can be subbed out, or did you just not show you asking Rupert...

It's time for the first elimination on "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" -- who do you think will go home out of Rupert, Candice and Marissa?
Redemption Island
It should be against the rules to call the first vote a "blindside." How can you be blindsided at the first Tribal Council, especially if you haven't formed an alliance yet? Guess what -- if you haven't formed an alliance, there is one that you're not a part of.
Interestingly, at challenge time, everybody is crying about their loved ones being safe or voted out, in Gervase's case. Geez, you guys. It's been one day! Stop crying!
Marissa informs the returnees that she was voted out pretty much because of Gervase's celebrating at the challenge and he just vows to keep doing it. Ok, then. He also doesn't take her place in the challenge.
The challenge is moving wooden spools through...

Survivor 27 Blood Vs Water eliminated Rachel Foulger & Rupert Boneham in episode 2 tonight. The show kicked off with very revealing conversation footage. Marissa, Rupert ,and Candice sat around and griped about being the first people ousted from the main game and sent to Redemption Island. Next, Colton revealed that his whole attitude change was nothing more than a front, and we saw the old ,vindictive Colton quickly come back out. It was great, lol!!! John's name came up for next elimination. Meanwhile ,John was feeling guilty that he decided to stay ,while his wife,Candice, went to Redemption Island. Next, they showed Redemption Island challenge footage. Gervase was given the opportunity to swap places with his niece, Marissa, but opted not to without hesitation. From there, Rupert,Candice, and Marissa battled it out. The first two to complete their challenge, got to stay on board. Candice and Marissa beat out Rupert,...

Check out these exclusive sneak peek photos of the "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" Immunity Challenge this week. In the challenge, the tribes are tasked with barrel-rolling one tribe member from station to station to raise flags.
We are not at all envious of the tribemate who is riding inside the barrel. Goodness.
This is also the episode that CBS teases the "old Colton" is back, so that ought to be interesting. We thought he had changed so much during the premiere last week. Also, there's the first Redemption Island face-off, this one between Rupert, Candice and Marissa. Who do you think will be the first castaway sent packing?
"Survivor: Blood vs. Water" airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on CBS.

Survivor: Blood Vs. Water may sound like a gory new edition of Mortal Kombat, but let me assure you it’s actually grittier than that.
This new Survivor pits veterans of the show in one tribe against their loved ones in a second tribe, and that means every immunity challenge is an emotionally charged, bittersweet event. If you win, you’re sending your beloved husband/wife/niece/brother/dairyman to Redemption Island, which is back in play. On this first episode, returning season-one vet Gervase’s niece Marissa Peterson earned a ticket to the Redemption Death Circle for what I’m interpreting as absolutely no reason. I liked Marissa! She was straightforward and competitive. But because Gervase was cocky when his team won immunity, her team took out their collective shame on her. Maybe we’ll see her again after Redemption Island, but she has to contend with the two...

In the 27th (!!!) season of ‘Survivor,’ contestants have a new, unique challenge: going against their loved ones in order to win.
After the 4th season of the 13-year-old hit show Survivor, tribes stopped being divided into simply two teams of eight. It then went off into tangents of age, gender, returning contestants, and more. However, the competition has never been returning contestants going against their loved ones! Looks like family rivalries and relationships are about to get heated in the Philippines!
Survivor, Blood vs. Water: Season 27
It’s crazy to think that Survivor has been on for 27 seasons, but when you think about, there will always be people up for the challenge of venturing to a deserted global location with strangers to win a million dollars! However, it’s not strangers anymore on this season of Survivor, set in several islands in the Philippines, mainly Palaui. Now, former contestants are...

Survivor Review, Season 27, Episode 1
“Blood is Thicker than Anything”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When the many twists was announced for the new Survivor season, it felt like the producers were over compensating for a flimsy premise. Besides having a silly name, the Blood vs. Water concept introduced elements that didn’t mesh with the formula. How could family members vote each other out and truly compete for a million dollars? The challenge is selling that concept without making it feel cheap. When it’s added to Redemption Island and its related twists, the danger grows larger. This baggage makes the success of the premiere a surprise. There are some lunkhead players who get too much screen time, but the cast is more interesting than the normal group. Even returnees who weren’t inspiring on their original season like Laura and Monica seem more confident this time. The loved ones...

Survivor 27 Blood vs Water eliminated Candice Woodstock,Rupert Boneham & Marissa Peterson in episode 1 tonight. The premiere episode, kicked off with the introduction footage. Then host, Jeff Probst, got right down to business, and revealed the new twist, which was that the team of loved ones would be playing against each other. He then split up the new players and returning players into 2 separate tribes: "Galang and Tadhana." The returning players were thrown into the Galang tribe, while new players were thrown into the "Tadhana" tribe. Next, he had the tribes immediately vote someone off! Rupert's wife,Laura, got voted off her tribe of newbies. Then Candice got voted off her tribe of returning players. From there, Jeff, dropped yet another twist. Redemption Island was back in play, and that the people voted off, would get a chance to get back in the game by winning challenges at Redemption Island.

Intro and Re-Intro. Water! Blood! It's a structurally interesting start. The 10 pairs are being dropped off in 10 locations and they don't know that they aren't playing together. Let's meet and re-meet them! "I am the original, the Og," says Gervase, whose niece Marissa was nine when he originally played. Oh God. We're all so old. "It's cute that he thinks he's going to win," Marissa says. Ah, Kat and "Big Brother" winner Hayden. I assume their conversations mostly involve smiling prettily. "It is 'Survivor' in a house," says Hayden, who apparently knows precious little about "Survivor," while Kat insists...

It's here, "Survivor" fans. The "Blood vs. Water" premiere is upon us and we are very excited. Not only does the loved ones twist add an interesting facet to the game -- the promos have already demonstrated how some loved ones would never vote against each other and others would totally do it -- but there are some awesome returning players.
Will the tribe of returning players have an uber-advantage over the newbies? We hope the disparity isn't too great, that won't be very fun to watch. But we definitely have high hopes about this season.

Jeff Probst would officially welcome the 10 couples competing in Survivor: Blood vs. Water at sunrise on Sunday May 19, 2013 and set them on their way for a 39 day adventure. But for the players, the game actually began the night before, when the 10 couples were dropped off at sunset to fare for themselves overnight in 10 different spots along the beach or jungle.
