Exclusive: Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is teaming up with filmmaker Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil!) to co-write a narrative screenplay about the now-cult rock concert Dickinson played during the height of the Siege of Sarajevo in 1994.
Risking their lives, Dickinson and his band Skunkworks were smuggled into the besieged city by the Un to play a concert for its beleaguered citizens amidst the chaos of war. The journey was captured in a 2016 documentary Scream for Me Sarajevo.
The Siege Of Sarajevo was the longest siege in modern history lasting 1,425 days and resulting in more than 11,000 killed, including 1,600 children. The city was decimated, infrastructure destroyed, and there was wide spread damage to many cultural institutions, government buildings, hospitals, and schools.
In 2019, the Sarajevo City Council granted Dickinson the title of “Honorary citizen of Sarajevo,” in remembrance of his visit and the band’s performance at the peak of the Bosnian war.

The classic rock biopic craze continues with MGM, which is producing a film based on Culture Club frontman Boy George.
Boy George, one of the most recognizable faces from the 1980s, is the next music icon to get swept up in the film industry’s classic rock biopic wave. Indeed, in the spirit of the Oscars-dominating Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, and the buzz-generating Elton John biopic, Rocketman (which hits theaters this weekend), the ostentatiously gender-bending frontman of Culture Club is getting a big screen portrayal of his own from a major studio.
The Boy George biopic, currently untitled, is in the works at MGM, which will produce the film, reports Deadline. The studio has already found its creative fulcrum in Sacha Gervasi, who will serve as director and writer, joined by producers Kevin King Templeton (Creed) and Paul Kemsley, as well as executive producers George and Jessica de Rothschild.

BAFTA weekend is upon us as nominees and execs prep for London revelry throughout Sunday night’s awards and into the wee small hours afterwards. Last year, we saw a contrast in the pre- and post-festivities as new hosts stepped up to take over from The Weinstein Company, which had fronted some of the hottest tickets in town until the company was engulfed by scandal.
This year there are even more exclusive soirées to choose from (or to be chosen by). While Sunday sees eOne, Fox and Lionsgate return to Soho House’s Greek Street hub in a repeat of what was a terrific 2018 event, new on the bash block is Netflix which will take over the Chiltern in Marylebone that same night.
The streaming giant scored its biggest haul of nominations this year, largely for Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma which has seven, tied with Warner Bros’ A Star Is Born,...

Hervé Villechaize, most familiar for his turn on “Fantasy Island” before his premature death, is an unlikely biopic subject. As the assistant Tattoo on the TV drama, Villechaize was treated as if his short stature made him a supernatural freak. His cultural impact has been an accented catchphrase (“De plane!”) and his status as a widely known, and generally patronized, little person. It’s a story that seems too sad, and too sadly marginal, to entice viewers.
“My Dinner With Hervé,” HBO’s film about a late-in-life Villechaize, isn’t quite a reclamation project. It doesn’t do enough to center his story, focusing instead on how the star changed a journalist’s life. But it will begin to make you see Villechaize in a new light, not least because of Peter Dinklage’s performance. Dinklage inhabits the late actor’s unique diction and the ballistic energy he brought to his performances and,...

Now retired as Christian Grey, Jamie Dornan needs something else to do — so why not co-star with Peter Dinklage in “My Dinner With Hervé,” a new biopic set to debut this October on HBO?
In the 30-second teaser trailer below, the premise of HBO’s latest biopic gets laid out pretty cleanly: Danny Tate (Dornan) is a journalist assigned to speak with Villechaize (Dinklage), “the most famous dwarf in the world.” Villechaize promises he has a story to tell about his life as the star of projects including “The Man With the Golden Gun” and “Fantasy Island.”
While Dinklage does not share Villechaize’s French/Filipino heritage, he is a two-time Emmy winner for his work on “Game of Thrones” and seems committed to mastering the accent work involved. Per HBO, the cast also includes:
