A Justice Department probe has determined that President Joe Biden did not violate any laws in his handling of classified documents found at his home and office.
In a 388-page report released on Thursday, Special Counsel Robert Hur revealed that the department had “uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” but that “the evidence does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
“We decline prosecution of Mr. Biden,” the report says.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) submitted a resolution on Thursday seeking to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), accusing the Somali-American congresswoman of making “treasonous statements” and of having “revealed herself to be a foreign agent acting on behalf of a foreign government,” through her support for the Somali community.
There’s just one problem: Omar didn’t actually give the statements quoted by Greene in her resolution. Greene’s is what appears to be an egregious mistranslations of a speech Omar gave at an event in Minneapolis — home...

Jim Jordan shed even more support from his caucus in a third failed vote to secure the Speakership, and on Friday the Republican caucus deemed that he is no longer their Speaker Designate.
Twenty-five Republicans voted against Jordan’s nomination during a Friday floor vote, an increase in defections from the 22 who voted against him on Wednesday, and 20 on Tuesday. Hours later, Jordan lost a secret ballot during a closed door conference vote, effectively ending his run for the gavel.

California’s Dianne Feinstein, the longest-serving female senator in U.S. history and three-time mayor of San Francisco, died Thursday at the age of 90. An icon of Democratic politics who was planning to step down at the end of her term amid a series of health issues, she is being remembered by the many colleagues she had over her decadeslong career in public service.

George Santos weaseled his way into Congress by flat-out lying about nearly every major aspect of his backstory. Some Republicans, including those in his home district, have called for him to resign, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has stood by Santos, even assuring reporters that he’ll sit on committees like everyone else. The bit about sitting on committees appears to be too much for Santos, though, who reportedly told colleagues on Tuesday that he is temporarily recusing himself from doing so.

“We still have absolutely no idea how this will end,” CNN’s Jake Tapper declared Tuesday as the House of Representatives appeared to come up short for the third time to vote in a Speaker.
Suffering humiliation on humiliation, GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy saw 20 far-right members of his fractious caucus put their third-ballot support behind another top Republican. With business for the new 118th Congress frozen until a Speaker is selected, McCarthy had 202 votes to 212 for House Democrats caucus chair Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and 20 votes to Republican Rep. Jim Jordan – the latter a top McCarthy ally who has urged members to vote for the California Republican.

Republican members of Congress who refused to hold then-President Donald Trump accountable for delaying congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine are now criticizing President Biden for not providing more military aid to the nation.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), a fierce opponent of impeaching Trump for trying to extort Ukraine into digging up dirt on Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 election, had the nerve to blame Biden for not doing enough to equip Ukraine. “The challenge that we have is, it’s the actions that we could have done before from...

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday that this week’s high-stakes, unresolved and unpredictable drama on Capitol Hill was “like an episode of a TV show.”
A reporter quickly asked, “What TV show?”
“Maybe The West Wing, if something good happens. Maybe Veep if not,” she said.
She was talking specifically about the prospects that a key part of Joe Biden’s agenda, the roughly $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, will even make it to the House floor, as is planned, on Thursday. The fate of that piece of legislation, already passed by a bipartisan majority of the Senate, depends on whether Democrats can come to an agreement on a much larger $3.5 trillion package, known as the Build Back Better Act, which would expand the social safety net and provide huge outlays to tackle and counter climate change.
Democrats need every vote in the Senate for the latter piece of legislation to stand a chance.

When Punchbowl News, a startup from veterans of Politico, launched earlier this month, it promised politics from a different D.C. vantage point: The Capitol, often overshadowed by national media coverage of chaos in the White House.
Their focal point has proved a bit fortuitous in the past month, with the Capitol siege, a second impeachment and an inauguration — and much more to come in February.
“Anna and I have a very deep, abiding belief that Congress and legislating is the center of the political universe,” says Jake Sherman, who founded the site along with Anna Palmer and co-founder John Bresnahan.
On Monday, Sherman and Palmer will launch an early-morning podcast, The Daily Punch, for Entercom’s Cadence 13, in which they will set up what they see as the events of the day in D.C. The nonpartisan focus is “insiders in Washington and how people exercise power, but in a really accessible way,...

“I don’t want you to lose your job, but why should you exist?”
This is what Siena College Research Institute Director Don Levy says a reporter asked him earlier this month after it became clear that he and his fellow pollsters drastically underestimated Donald Trump’s support, four years after making the same mistake ahead of the 2016 election.
Levy seemed gobsmacked by the question, but it wasn’t out of step with much of the media’s reaction to the polling industry’s whiff. “Polling seems to be irrevocably broken,...

Politico is launching a new streaming series during the Democratic and Republican conventions tied to its popular Playbook newsletter and franchise.
Plug In with Playbook will be streamed at 9 Am Et each morning of both conventions, with Democrats starting on Aug. 17 and Republicans a week later, on Aug. 24.
Plans for the show are moving forward even though both conventions will be close to all virtual. On Wednesday, Democrats announced that Joe Biden would no longer travel to Milwaukee to deliver his acceptance speech and instead would do so from his home state of Delaware.
Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman, co-authors of Playbook, will anchor the 45-minute show, with plans to interview politicians and party insiders. Guests for the DNC include party chairman Tom Perez, convention CEO Joe Solmonese, Biden campaign senior adviser Symone Sanders, and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-va), who was the vice presidential nominee in 2016. Kevin McLaughlin, executive director...

After decades of spreading stupidity at a super-human clip, Rep. Louie Gohmert is now doing his best to spread a deadly virus.
The Texas Republican tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday prior to joining President Trump aboard Air Force One for a trip to Texas, where the pandemic is currently wreaking havoc on the state’s residents.
Now, this was an understandably confusing turn of events for Gohmert. He was probably pretty excited to join the president on a trip to his home state, and certainly didn’t expect to...

Update 3:30 Pm Sept. 23: Brett Kavanaugh plans to contest Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations by using calendars from the summer of 1982. Kavanaugh’s calendars do not show a party consistent with Ford’s contentions, according to the New York Times, quoting an anonymous source working for his confirmation.
The Kavanaugh defense will argue that the calendars provide no corroboration for Ford’s account. The calenders, the Times said, will show he was out of town much of the summer, either at the beach or away with his parents. While at home, the calendars list his basketball games, movie outings, football workouts and college interviews. While a few parties are mentioned, none those friends other than those identified by Ford.
Meanwhile, the Time’s Up organization has sent out a tweet calling for a nationwide walkout on Monday in support of Blasey Ford’s accusations.
