Karol G won Album of the Year, Natalia Lafourcade won Record of the Year, Shakira and DJ Bizarrap won Song of the Year, and Joaquina was voted Best New Artist to headline the 24th Latin Grammys, held tonight in Seville, Spain.
For the first time, Latin music’s biggest night was held outside the United States, as Seville rocked to the sounds of reggaeton, hip-hop, merengue, tango, and every genre of Latin music.
It was Karol G’s big night, as the singer took home the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year for “Mañana Será Bonito.” She joked from the stage about how much she loves to talk, but in moments like these, she finds herself speechless.
“Es demasiado chimba,” she said of winning the award, which translates to, “It’s very cool.” Karol G added that the album changed her life and she’s happy it changed a...

When mastering engineer Emerson Mancini works on an album, he typically doesn’t listen closely to the lyrics during his first session. But as he engineered Kendrick Lamar’s “Auntie Diaries,” from the album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, Mancini had an emotional reaction to the words Lamar recited.
“My auntie is a man now/I think I’m old enough to understand now,” the prolific artist raps.
“I was like, ‘What? What’s happening? What is this?’ I ultimately had to stop and play the whole thing,” Mancini admitted. “I needed to know what this is about because I had just started taking testosterone a couple of months prior. The whole experience was really raw at the moment, and it was amazing to me.”

The 2022 Grammy Awards broadcast wrapped up with an upset victory of sorts, with Jon Batiste beating out the likes of Taylor Swift and Kanye west to take home Album of the Year for his excellent “We Are.”
That was his fifth win of the night, following four wins during the “Premiere Ceremony,” where all of the awards not deemed cool enough for television were handed out, hosted by the always wonderful Levar Burton.
Batiste also accomplished a rather ignominious milestone for the Grammy Awards themselves: He’s the first Black artist to win Album of the Year since Herbie Hancock back in 2008. You read that right: It’s literally been 14 years and 3 presidents since the Academy recognized the work of Black artists with this honor. And in case you’re wondering, the only nonwhite artist to win Best Album during that time was Bruno Mars in 2018.
Speaking of Mars, Batiste...

Sure, Beyoncé led the nominations, with Taylor Swift not far behind, but movie fans might have noticed an interesting nomination. It was Billie Eilish getting nominated for her No Time to Die song, from the upcoming James Bond flick. What makes it so interesting is that the Grammy Awards will be given out before the film gets released, so hypothetically it could already be an award winner. Perhaps that’s the star of its run to an Academy Award win? The Oscars in 2022 are a long way off, but it’s something to think about… Here are the Grammy nominees: General Field 1. Record Of The Year Award to the Artist and to the Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s) and/or Mixer(s) and mastering engineer(s), if other than the artist.
