With his short fade, skinny jeans, toned bod, and tattoos, Carl Lentz wasn’t like other men of the cloth. As the lead pastor of Hillsong NYC, a megachurch specializing in youth-courting “come as you are” sermons and “Coldplay for Christ” music, Lentz became a bona-fide celebrity, palling around with A-list congregants like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and Kevin Durant. He also served as team chaplain for the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. At the height of his PR problems, Bieber even crashed with...

Based on its first trailer, FX’s upcoming docuseries about Hillsong Church seems as though it’s going to be as explosive as its subject matter.
In this first look at “The Secrets of Hillsong,” the series accuses Hillsong of “child abuse, labor abuse and sexual assault.” The four-part series is set to premiere on FX on May 19 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.
The trailer features interview footage of disgraced ex-pastor Carl Lentz. The celebrity pastor served as a spiritual advisor to Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner before he was fired in 2020. According to Hillsong Global Pastor Brian Houston, Lentz was fired for “leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.” But as the docuseries teases, there may be more to this story.
“You do not want to be in this chair. I cannot stress it enough,” Lentz says in the trailer.

“They had meetings about not telling anyone” amid sexual abuse allegations against those running the Hillsong Church, FX‘s trailer for The Secrets of Hillsong says. FX is bringing the scandals of Carl Lentz, Hillsong founder Brian Houston, and more to light in its four-part documentary series, premiering May 19 on the network (next-day streaming on Hulu). The series will feature the first-ever interviews from Lentz and wife Laura regarding the infidelity scandal that resulted in their ousting from the global megachurch with a star-studded list of congregants. FX has set a new docuseries, “The Secrets of Hillsong,” which will feature the first interviews with married couple Carl and Laura Lentz since they were ousted as pastors of the infamous megachurch.
The four-part series is based on reporting from Vanity Fair’s Alex French and Dan Adler about Hillsong, which became famous for attracting celebrities like Justin and Hailey Bieber and Kylie and Kendall Jenner — before the church was exposed for involvement in misconduct including marital infidelity and child sexual abuse.
The church was previously the subject of the Discovery+ docuseries “Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed.”
Along with the Lentzes, “The Secrets of Hillsong” includes interviews with former congregants and others connected to the church, such as Tiff Perez, Ashley Jones and Mary Jones, Josh Canfield, Janice Lagata, Geoff Bullock, David Shoebridge, David Cowdrey and Tanya Levin.
Stacey Lee directs the docuseries, which hails from Scout Productions and Vanity Fair Studios.

Sony’s intricate web of Spider-Man-related projects is spinning up plans for a spin-off series focusing on Cindy Moon, otherwise known as Silk. According to reports, a cluster of Marvel characters are scuttling toward the small screen after MGM+, and Amazon Prime ordered several live-action series from Sony Pictures Entertainment. The first project swinging out of the deal is Silk: Spider Society, with The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang acting as showrunner.
The deal to bring Sony’s Spider-Verse to streaming services has been in the works for a while. Arrangements to acquire the rights were a nightmare to organize, but now that a linear network for debuts is secured, the show can get on the road. Projects like Silk: Spider Society will debut on MGM+ (which is changing its name in January), then go to Amazon Prime Video in the States. Amazon will also be the show’s international home across 240 countries and territories.

Amazon Prime and Epix are strapping on their web shooters. The streamer and linear channel have developed a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop multiple television series based on characters related to Marvel Comics icon Spider-Man.
The first show ordered under this multi-series agreement is “Silk: Spider Society,” based on the Marvel Comics superhero Cindy Moon. The show will debut in the United States on the MGM+ linear channel, currently under the name Epix. Globally, the series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories.
According to Amazon, the shows being developed under the deal are based on the “Sony Pictures universe of Marvel characters,” referring to the films that Sony has developed starring characters affiliated with Spider-Man — albeit without the wall-crawler himself. These films include the “Venom” series starring Tom Hardy, this year’s memed-to-death “Morbius,” and the upcoming “Kraven the Hunter” and “Madame Web.

For 20 years, ever since Gilbert Gottfried made the tasteless crack that inspired it just a few weeks after 9/11, “Too soon” has been the mantra we use to jokingly suggest someone is making a joke before the time is ripe for it. But the phrase could also be applied to certain music documentaries. “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” caught the first chapters of Billie Eilish’s career, starting in 2015, when she recorded and posted “Ocean Eyes” on SoundCloud — and though she is still a young star (just 20), the film felt momentous, because her stardom has had such an extraordinary trajectory, and you feel, in a way, that she remade the pop-music world in her own image.

As a psychologist, Stacey Lee understands the impact social media images can have on a person’s self-worth.
“One of the recurrent themes I treat in my profession is body image and its effect on self-esteem,” the Melbourne-based fitness influencer posted on Instagram on Monday. “Self-esteem is defined as confidence in one’s own worth. However, when that worth is tied to an image, a number on a scale, the size of clothes, the smoothness of skin, the smallness of a waist, the bigness of a butt, the definition on your abs or the gap between your thighs, your worth will never be measured correctly.

Here at People, we feel like it's our public duty to answer some of these burning questions. Let's begin with the lightning round:
Where do they go to bathroom? (Anywhere they want. It's the jungle.) Are they really left alone? (Yes. Each night, production goes to base camp, leaving the participants alone with a diary camera.) Do they get paid? (Yes, but just a few thousand dollars. It's all about the experience, not the cash.)

Over the past three months DC/WB has seen a plethora of critics put every decision under a microscope and dissect everything wrong with the Dceu. From the tone of Man of Steel, the appointment of Zach Snyder as the lead of Dceu, the casting of Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot as Batman and Wonder Woman, the interpretation of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and the decision and style of Doomsday. I am probably missing some more critiques that are out there but you all understand my point that there is plenty that Warner Bros., Zach Snyder, and DC have to fix before Justice League. With all of those issues there is one that DC and Warner Bros. got right and did so before Marvel and that would be the incorporation of strong female leads in the Dceu.

****More pictures from HeroesCon, and artist interviews, can be found in the Heroes Con Exclusive Pages****
It was a beautiful weekend in Charlotte, Nc for the 2016 Heroes Con. Fellow writer Mike Connally and I were lucky to attend the Con. I decided to break my review down into categories since there was so much to take in during the event:
1. Artists – Neal Adams, Juan Doe, Paulina Ganucheau, Stacey Lee, and Freddie Williams II were just a few of the 300+ artists who were in attendance at HeroesCon. All artists were eager to speak with fans, sign autographs, prints, commissions, and some would draw an original sketch of your choosing depending on the amount of time they had.
The Artist Stage was also interesting. Artists would take to the stage, paint or draw an original piece while the crowd could sit and watch, and they would later be auctioned.
