Before “Bob Marley: One Love” hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, the musical biopic about the Reggae legend was expected to sing its way to No. 1 on the charts.
But box office projections indicated the Paramount movie — which chronicles Marley’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) rise to fame in the mid-1970s and complex relationship with his wife Rita Marley (Lashana Lynch) up until he died in 1981 — would start slow. It looked like it would collect $30 million and $35 million during the six days between Valentine’s Day on Wednesday and Presidents’ Day on Monday.
Instead, “One Love” smashed those expectations, earning $52 million during the extended holiday stretch. It remained victorious in its sophomore outing (despite the presence of three new releases), raising its domestic total to $71 million. After three weeks in theaters, the film is nearing the $150 million mark globally. It’s an impressive benchmark for a PG-13 drama that’s aimed...

Lashana Lynch says playing Bob Marley's widow Rita Marley in 'Bob Marley: One Love' brought her a lot of "peace" in her own life. The 36-year-old star always learns something from the various characters she plays, and it was no different when she took on the role of the reggae legend's wife in the new biopic about his life. She told Film Stories Magazine: "I've been able to harness a stillness that I've been looking for in my life as me and as an artist and as a woman through learning about how much we're able to do everything."Sometimes this industry can be so chaotic. Creating art can be so taxing at the worst of times. As the hunt for the next James Bond continues, many have weighed in with their dream casting, with names like Idris Elba, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Paul Mescal circling the role. For some, the role is overdue to be given to somebody other than a white British dude. But what about a female Bond? Well, the idea has been shot down across the board, most recently by the son of the franchise’s most consistent 007.
In a new interview, Roger Moore’s son, Geoffrey, suggested he’s not actively against a woman playing a vital role in the franchise but that it would be impossible for there to be a female Bond, saying the code number is assigned only to James himself. “Then it’s no longer James Bond,” and thus no longer a James Bond movie. “I mean, she could be 006, 008, or 009…Maybe there will be a ‘From the filmmakers...

For Lashana Lynch, 2022 was all about showing off her range. In Sony’s The Woman King, she plays Igozie, a member of the historical, all-female warrior unit known as the Agojie, led by Viola Davis’ General Nanisca. While it required intense training (and doing her own stunts), it fit right along with the other roles in Lynch’s filmography — among them a pilot in Captain Marvel and a secret agent in No Time to Die. But it was Netflix’s Matilda the Musical, based on the Roald Dahl novel and subsequent stage musical that played the West End and Broadway, that was the major departure from Lynch’s string of badass characters. As Miss Honey, the kind and supportive teacher who attempts to protect the young title character from the cruel and brutish headmistress Miss Trunchbull (played by Emma Thompson), Lynch had to embrace her softer, less confident side — and belt some tunes.

When actress Lashana Lynch took on the role of Miss Honey in Netflix’s “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical,” she found herself immersed in the part in ways she didn’t quite expect.
“I stepped so far into Miss Honey that I started to worry about the children’s mental health,” she told TheWrap in a recent interview, referring to the contentious dynamic between Miss Honey and Emma Thompson’s evil Miss Trunchbull. Indeed, she said Thompson immersed herself similarly deep into the villain role, so much so that Lynch felt protective over the children on set — mirroring their onscreen dynamic.
“There were hundreds of children just watching Emma walk around with prosthetics and these teeth and these massive boots, and she was so unbelievably mean as this character,” Lynch continued. “She’s so committed as a thespian that you can’t not believe it. And a couple of times I was like ‘Emma,...

It took a lot of work for Viola Davis to become a fearsome warrior.
Speaking to People magazine, the 57-year-old Oscar-winner opened up about the intense training she went through to feel “like a bada**” starring in “The Woman King”.
“When I was a girl wanting to win the Miss Central Falls Recreation Contest — wanting to look good in a bikini, wanting to be thin and cute and delicate and pretty — I just wanted to be willowy and thin,” Davis said.

“I was always muscular and thicker, and I felt like my femininity could not be created with this canvas. And then all of a sudden, with this role, my muscles, my arms, my thick legs, my heavy voice were perfect. I felt unapologetic about it. I celebrated it physically in every way,” she continued.
