In “Prom Dates,” two high school besties are sent reeling after their carefully orchestrated plans for the future take an abrupt turn, forcing them on a wild overnight adventure across town. If this set-up sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because director Kim O. Nguyen and screenwriter D.J. Mausner have combined a handful of ingredients from “Booksmart” and mixed them with some of the farcical odyssey of “After Hours.” However, unlike this teen raunch-com’s brilliantly conceived inspirations, its main friendship dynamic and ensuing shenanigans fail to resonate due to sloppy character construction and a cadre of cringe-worthy circumstances.
As innocent middle schoolers, Hannah (Millie Thorpe) and Jess (Hailey Philip) took a blood oath – one that went hilariously awry – to make their prom night the best night of their lives. But as seniors, the besties are finding that making good on their pact might prove difficult. Hannah (Julia Lester) is struggling with her sexuality,...

You didn’t think that final scene of Georgia (Brianne Howey) being driven away in the back of a cop car was the last you’d see of the Miller clan, did you? As if Georgia would ever go away that quietly. Well, bust out the peaches and cream, because Ginny & Georgia will be back for two more seasons. Better yet, Season 3 is officially filming right now!
“We ended Season 2 with Georgia arrested for murder — ruining her fairy tale wedding and leaving the fate of the Miller family hanging in the balance,” creator and executive producer Sarah Lampert tells Tudum. “It’s always been Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia against the world, but the world has never come for them quite as hard as it will in Season 3. We are beyond excited to finally kick off production and keep bringing our fans the characters they love.”

He stars as Davis in the film adaptation of Green’s novel Turtles All the Way Down, out May 2. The writer and director of slasher-comedy Freaky are reuniting for a brand new time-traveling slasher movie titled Time Cut, with Christopher Landon producing and Michael Kennedy writing the script alongside Hanna Macpherson (“Into the Dark”). On Wednesday, Netflix's first formal Upfronts presentation brought some exciting news for fans of the streaming service's most beloved shows.
Ginny & Georgia, which has been in limbo since January, has secured a pickup for two more seasons, keeping the show on the air through what will likely be the fourth -- and final -- season.
In an exclusive post-mortem interview in January, then-showrunner Debra J. Fisher teased that she and series creator Sarah Lampert had mapped out a four-season run for the show.
The renewal announcement's delay is shocking, especially considering the show has been a strong performer for Netflix.
However, the streaming service confirmed that Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: Next Class) will take over as showrunner from Fisher.
There is no reason for the switcheroo, but fans will be happy knowing the show is returning.
Ginny & Georgia Season 2 concluded with countless cliffhangers, including Georgia being arrested for murder.

Netflix has renewed drama series “Ginny & Georgia” for two more seasons, naming a new showrunner to helm the next installments.
Debra J. Fisher oversaw the first two seasons of the show, which landed on Netflix in January 2021 and December 2022, respectively. The third and fourth seasons will be overseen by former “Degrassi” producer Sarah Glinski.
Glinski’s appointment took place before the Writers Guild of America went on strike.
Last we saw the dynamic mother-daughter duo, Georgia (Brianne Howey) married Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter) in a dreamy wedding ceremony, but the cops interrupted the nuptials by arresting her for the murder of Tom Fuller. Updated: Netflix has renewed Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, for a third and fourth season. Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has been named showrunner for the upcoming seasons. She replaces Debra J. Fisher, who served as showrunner on the first two seasons.
Given Ginny & Georgia’s very strong performance and very appealing economics, the two-season order is not a surprise; Netflix has done it on other series with similar pedigree, including Virgin River.
What is surprising was the four-month wait for a series of that level of ratings success to be renewed. According to sources, the pickup was done awhile ago but held for Netflix’s upfront.
As for the showrunner change, there had been rumors about friction between Fisher and Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert. By April, there was speculation that Fisher would be departing the series.

Netflix is keeping Ginny & Georgia — one of its most popular series of 2023 to date — around for a while.
The streamer has picked up two more seasons of the mother-daughter dramedy starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. The renewal will take Ginny & Georgia through its fourth season. Along with the pickup, the series has also tapped a new showrunner in Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation). Glinski, who was hired before the Writers Guild of America began its strike, will take over for Debra J. Fisher, who ran the first two seasons.
The show’s second season, released Jan. 5, ended on a cliff-hanger. Fisher told The Hollywood Reporter that based on the ending, “season three is going to be a big roller coaster.” She also noted that when she and series creator Sarah Lampert pitched the show, they did so with four seasons in mind.

The Wellsbury Peaches are here to stay for at least two more seasons.
Netflix has ordered a third and fourth season of “Ginny & Georgia.” The streamer shared the announcement on Wednesday during this year’s Upfronts presentation.
Created by Sarah Lampert, the dramedy follows Ginny (Antonia Gentry), a 15-year-old who is more mature than her 30-year-old mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey) in a New England town, where Georgia decided to settle down with her daughter and son, Ginny and Austin (Diesel La Torraca). Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter and Raymond Ablack also star.
In January, Season 2 ratings for the Netflix drama took down “Wednesday” for the No. 1 spot on the Netflix Top 10 English TV List with 180.47 million hours viewed following its debut, making it the most-watched title on the streamer for the week of Jan. 2-8. I have all the details from inside the event, which as usual attracted the most elite of the Hollywood set who poured in after watching Everything Everywhere All at Once score seven Oscar trophies including Best Picture.
We managed to get our hands on the guest list for the event, held in a 3,000-square-foot indoor reception area, with additional courtyards and other outdoor lounge spaces. The main bar, a prime gathering spot, was 40 feet long. The guests danced into the early-morning hours.

The 2023 awards season is nearly to the finish line, and it’s now time to say hello to the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards.
From “White Lotus” to “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” Hollywood’s biggest actors from TV series and films of the year will go head-to-head. Hosting the event is part of the streamer’s move into live programming, as the streamer has been developing its own livestream technology, which will officially launch with Chris Rock’s comedy special “Selective Outrage.”
Like the Globes, the SAG Awards recognize projects in both TV and film, and the titles are voted on by all SAG-AFTRA members who are in good standing and have paid their November dues by their respective due deadlines.

The Golden Globe Awards are in the market for a new broadcast partner.
While the Globes have aired on NBC for each of its televised years since 1996, that longstanding contractual connection has run up as of the 2023 ceremony, TheWrap has confirmed, which leaves room going into the 2024 proceedings for NBC to either re-up its partnership or for another network or streamer to step in with their own bid.
The Golden Globes and Dick Clark Productions announced Tuesday that the 2024 ceremony, its 81st, will return to its traditional Sunday night slot after airing on Tuesday this year. The 2023 Globes moved to Jan. 10 to avoid overlapping with an NFL game between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers, which also broadcast via NBC. Looking to 2024, the Globes have locked Jan. 7 as the date for their live telecast.
