Episodes 4 and 5 of “A Gentleman in Moscow” mark a turning point for Ewan McGregor’s Count Alexander Rostov as he gets to put his paternal nature to the true test.
In the Paramount+ and Showtime series, adapted from Amor Towles’ best-selling novel, the count becomes confined to the Metropol Hotel after the Russian Revolution due to his class and title. The penalty for his leaving the hotel is death, so he makes the most of his situation by befriending those who frequent the building.
One friendship he makes in the beginning with Nina Kulikova changes the course of his life. A grown-up Nina leaves her daughter Sofia (portrayed by twins Billie and Beau Gadsdon) in the care of the count when she decides to follow her husband, who gets arrested and sentenced to five years of corrective behavior in Sevvostlag, a camp in Russia.

Plot: Count Alexander Rostov, in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past has placed him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.
Review: Ewan McGregor is a singular talent. The acclaimed actor can sing, share the screen with Winnie the Pooh, fight Darth Vader, and play a convincing heroin addict. He has also proven himself adept at sharing the screen with family members.

Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are husband and wife, and despite being married since 2022, the couple still used an intimacy coordinator on the set of the series A Gentleman in Moscow.
McGregor revealed in a recent interview why having an intimacy coordinator on the set was important while filming sex scenes for the series.
“It’s still necessary, because it’s also about the crew, and it’s odd to be naked in front of people, it’s odd to be intimate in front of the camera,” McGregor told Radio Times. “If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer. It’s an important part of the work now, because it’s somebody that the director and actors meet in the middle.”
The actor also noted the importance of intimacy coordinators, especially now that his daughters Esther and Clara are also actors.

What would it take for you to believe that your partner has been compromised by a foreign power? Muttered Russian words in their sleep? A stash of secret documents under the floorboards? Mysterious phone calls during movie night? These are the questions posed in Netflix’s new conspiracy thriller, Treason, which finds Charlie Cox at the reins of MI6 but under the spotlight of both the CIA and his wife.
Adam Lawrence (Cox) becomes the new C, head of the Secret Intelligence Service, after his predecessor (Ciarán Hinds) is poisoned in a London private members’ club. “Your whole career has been building up to this,” his wife Maddy (Oona Chaplin) tells him. “Will you still be taking the bins out?” Of course Adam will still be taking the bins out! That’s because he balances a high-flying career with being a reliable family man. Two kids from his first marriage,...

As we head into the Christmas holidays, it seems like a good time for my semi-annual discussion of in medias res openings. You know, that thing where something exciting but confusing is happening for a minute or two at the top of a TV episode and then you get a “Two Weeks Earlier” title card.
You see them all the time and mostly, I hate to say, they’re not very good.
As I figure it, there are exactly two correct uses for an in medias res opening.
Use one: Present a scene so outlandish and packed with bizarre details that curiosity is unavoidable. A man wakes up in bed. The camera pulls back to reveal that he’s spooning with Dr. Ruth. The camera pulls back to reveal that the man and Dr. Ruth are surrounded by the corpses of 50 adorable white rabbits.

It's a good time to be named Charlie Cox. Netflix's — and now Marvel's — "Daredevil" star is set to lead the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the blind lawyer with excessive Catholic guilt in "Daredevil: Born Again." With that renewed social currency, Cox is finding a wealth of other stories to tell. Among them is Netflix's upcoming limited series, "Treason," which the United Kingdoms and Ireland branch of the streaming juggernaut's Twitter account revealed the show's release date.
The announcement came bundled with a collection of first-look images showcasing Cox and some of his fellow cast members (more on them later) all looking very serious in suits and bulletproof vests. Considering "Treason" is set to be a spy thriller piece in the same vein as "James Bond" and "The Bourne Identity," the attire seems appropriate.

"I can't talk about it, but I'm on a secret mission." Blue Fox has debuted a new official US trailer for the film The Railway Children Return, which already opened in the UK back in July. It's now opening in the US in late September. It's a "sort of sequel" / remake of the 1970 British film The Railway Children, about three children who move with their mother to Yorkshire. Jenny Agutter returns to her role as Bobbie from the original and is joined by Sheridan Smith, Tom Courtenay, and John Bradley. This one also follows a group of children who are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during the Second World War (to keep them safe from bombings), where they encounter a young American soldier who, like them, is far away from home. The cast of children also includes Beau Gadsdon, Eden Hamilton, Zac Cudby, Kj Aikens, Austin Haynes. It's described as "enchanting,...

Even upon its release 52 years ago, Lionel Jeffries’ adaptation of “The Railway Children” was something of a throwback: a kindly, low-conflict family entertainment, faithfully drawn from E. Nesbit’s 1905 children’s novel, that hearkened back to an Edwardian-era England of steam trains, rolling green fields and close-knit village communities. At the time, it caught a wave of nostalgia that got it firmly cemented in the popular British canon, even if it never attained quite the same classic status abroad. Half a century later, it’s still regarded with “they don’t make ’em like they used to” fervor. A very belated follow-up, Morgan Matthews’ “The Railway Children Return” aims to prove that, in fact, they do.
Effectively piling nostalgia upon nostalgia upon nostalgia into a triple-layered Victorian sponge of particularly English sweetness, this good-natured, resolutely old-fashioned film will likely make any adults who grew up on Jeffries’ original a little misty-eyed.

Happy Halloween everyone! To celebrate, I’ve got a great horror short for you to watch today called Salt.
The story follows a mother who is protecting her sick daughter from a demon who is on the hunt for them in their house. The only way to keep the demon away is salt, but this defense mechanism has its flaws and the demon won’t stop.
The film was directed by Rob Savage and stars Alice Lowe (Sightseers, Prevenge) and Beau Gadsdon (Girl in the Spider’s Web, Star Wars: Rogue One).
The short film features some impressive special effects work and the cinematography is beautiful. The film is only two minutes long and totally worth your time so check it out!
