Although she didn’t end up topping the charts, Billie Eilish just earned her biggest week ever on the Billboard Top 200. Hit Me Hard and Soft landed on Number Two on the charts this week, just behind Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department.
According to Billboard, Eilish’s 339,000 equivalent album units is the highest in her career, including nearly 200,000 album sales, also a career peak for the 22 year-old singer. This is Eilish’s first studio album to not debut at Number One, due to the record-setting numbers from Swift’s latest release.

Morgan Wallen had a grand opening of his Nashville bar scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. But his past bad boy behavior came back to haunt him, forcing him to cancel and postpone the bar opening for a later date. What happened?
Morgan Wallen Cancels Nashville Bar Opening After Arrest
Morgan Wallen was arrested in April after allegedly tossing a chair off the roof of Eric Church’s bar in downtown Nashville. He has three pending felony charges of reckless endangerment. He was originally slated to face the music in court in May, but the hearing date has been changed. The arrest came just as the singer finally rehabbed his image following the 2021 scandal when he was caught on camera using a racial slur.

Morgan Wallen’s history of bad behavior caught up to him on Tuesday when the Nashville Metro Council voted 30-3 against the construction of a 20-foot sign advertising “Morgan Wallen’s This Bar” in the city’s downtown district. As The Tennessean reports, council members directedly cited his past use of the N-word and recent incident throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar.
“I don’t want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs,” said At-large Council member Delishia Porterfield. District 33 Council member Antoinette Lee added that voting against the proposal might “help folks who are doing these harmful actions think twice.”

Even Council member Jacob Kupin, who voted in favor of the sign, admitted he couldn’t “let this individual just slide through quietly.

Going into the 2024 ACM Awards, you didn’t have to be clairvoyant to nail some key predictions. Host Reba McEntire was sure to be both corny and unflappable, Lainey Wilson was a lock to win Entertainer of the Year, and country interloper Post Malone, scruffy and face-tattooed, was going to charm the pants off everyone.
That all of that happened isn’t a bad thing. In fact, there was something especially comforting about the predictability of this year’s ACMs, held for a second year in a row at the...

The country music world shared the stage at the 2024 ACM Awards, where Post Malone performed songs from his upcoming country album, Dua Lipa joined Chris Stapleton for a duet, and Avril Lavigne and Noah Kahan partnered with country musicians onstage.
It almost felt like Beyoncé — who recently made history on the country charts with Cowboy Country — might pop up. She didn’t Thursday night, but host Reba McEntire did reference Queen Bey’s historic project during her opening monologue.
“We’re here to talk about country music and how everyone is invited and welcome here at country music’s party of the year. From Mother Maybelle to Cowboy Carter, country music is so big in 2024 that there’s room for everybody,” she said. “We all love country [music] and we all are country, and we’re keeping the circle unbroken, but growing it to even bigger and better.”

Nominee Ashley McBryde and actor Noah Reid stole the show while presenting Single of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. The pair performed parodies of this year’s nominees while presenting the award.
Reid has sung a bit on both Outer Range and, most memorably, on Schitt’s Creek, which McBryde complimented at the beginning of their time on stage. Reid said he was nervous presenting at the show, so McBryde pulled out a ukulele and launched into a version of Parker McCollum’s “Burn It Down,” this time about Reid being new in town.

Taylor Swift continues to reign on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Her latest 31-track opus, “The Tortured Poets Department,” held on to the number-one spot for a third week, this time with 282,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streaming performance. Read all about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
It was a good week for Dua Lipa too, though, despite not coming close to challenging Swift for the top spot. Her third studio album, “Radical Optimism,” debuted at number-two (an all-time career high for the artist) with 83,000 album units (also a career best), including 51,500 in traditional album sales. Her previous album, “Future Nostalgia,” peaked at number-three but had tremendous staying power on the chart thanks in large part to its blockbuster singles “Don’t Look Now” and “Levitating.”

The Academy of Country Music Awards show set for May 16 is getting some additional octane in its performance lineup with the addition of two of the biggest artists of the moment from outside the country genre, Post Malone and Noah Kahan.
Malone looks set for a solo moment on the ACM Awards show, while Kahan will join female artist of the year nominee Kelsea Ballerini for a duet.

Just like Florida Georgia Line itself, the bro-country duo’s Nashville bar is kaput. Fgl House, which first opened its doors in June 2017 with a ribbon cutting by members Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, has closed and will be replaced by a new Lainey Wilson venture.
The shuttering of Fgl House marks the first country-star branded bar of the modern era to close in Nashville. Tc Restaurant Group, which operates bars by the likes of Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, and, formerly, Florida Georgia Line, will partner with Wilson to create Bell Bottoms Up.

Taylor Swift‘s record-breaking debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart with “The Tortured Poets Department” has unsurprisingly been followed by a second week on top. It achieved 439,000 equivalent album units for the tracking week that ended May 2 based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. Read more about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.

Entertainer of the Year is the biggest prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards, honoring an artist’s incredible year across all metrics, like touring, streaming and radio. While there is no specific formula on how to predict the winner, it’s often someone who dominated the country sphere in more ways than one, and who solidified themselves as the face of country music. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the seven-person race for this year’s award.
If we are going by process of elimination, perhaps the first person out is Kane Brown. He is one of country music’s most popular artists of the past 10 years, undoubtedly so. However, 2023 wasn’t necessarily a standout year for him, evidenced by the fact that he is only nominated in this category. Plus, Brown is surely going to be back in a stronger year, perhaps with...

Morgan Wallen is expected to appear in court when his chair-throwing case picks back up in August (unless it’s settled before then).
As People reports, Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, appeared on the musician’s behalf at a hearing in Nashville on Friday, May 3. The court had waived Wallen’s right to appear at the largely procedural hearing, where the charges against him were discussed and a next court date was scheduled for Aug. 15.

Universal Music Group chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge has applauded a new music licensing deal with TikTok which ends a recent months-long standoff over royalties to be paid out around the social media platform.
“It’s another significant step we’ve taken to guide the industry’s evolution to a future where human artistry must be respected,” Grainge told an analyst call after the release of his company’s first quarter financial results. He argued the resolution of the TikTok dispute had impacts beyond a single social media platform.
“The income from social media is increasingly important income to artists, songwriters, labels and publishers, which is why we’ve pushed so hard and we will continue to push hard to protect and to develop it,” Grainge warned.
“Ultimately, the point of engaging in such conflicts is to find a higher common ground from which new and greater progress can be made.

Miranda Lambert Has Been Keeping Herself Busy

Morgan Wallen closed out the 2024 Stagecoach Sunday night with a hits-filled set that included guest appearances by Post Malone, Eric Church, Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman, and Ernest.

The first snippet arrived in December, with another preview coming in hot on the eve of Stagecoach’s opening night.

It has only been three weeks since their first collaborative album hit number-one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, but Metro Boomin and Future are at it again. “We Don’t Trust You” debuted on top of the chart dated April 6, and now their follow-up “We Still Don’t Trust You” has done the same on the chart dated April 27. The buzz around this year’s Stagecoach Festival, kicking off Friday in Indio, California, is among the loudest in the country music fest’s 16-year history. Tickets sold out in less than a month after going on sale last September — hitting that mark months before sister festival Coachella — and giving Stagecoach its biggest sales ever. Credit that to the current country music boom and to a stellar lineup put together by Stacy Vee, EVP of festival talent for Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach.

At the beginning of April, country musician Morgan Wallen was arrested in Nashville, Tennesee, for launching a chair from the six-story roof of Chief’s Bar. At 11 p.m. on a Sunday, two Nashville police officers saw the chair fall to the ground from the top of the building. Wallen was arrested for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Following his arrest, Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, said Wallen was “cooperating fully with authorities.”
Wallen has now spoken out about his actions that night. On Friday, the country artist posted to X, “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”
“I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe.
