Veronica Falcon has had quite the 2021 — and we’re only halfway through it. This year alone the actress has created eye-catching characters in the Paramount+ series “Why Women Kill” and HBO’s “Perry Mason,” as well as made a very brief appearance in Disney’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” But while Falcon is getting audiences’ attention now, fans of hers have already been supportive, whether that’s for her numerous respected performances in her native Mexico or as the villainous mother/drug queenpin Camila Vargas on “Queen of the South.”
Falcon is a unique presence in this industry, and her journey is reflective of that. Falcon and her family were drawn to classic film stars like Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, and Liza Minnelli. It was Minnelli who Falcon was especially struck by, but because the actress didn’t see herself as a strong dancer or singer, Falcon initially turned to choreographing.

Queen of the South was a creative, intriguing, heart-pounding ride that, oddly enough for a show about the violent world of drug cartels, left fans smiling in the end.
Did our TV Fanatics, Whitney, Jasmine, and Christine, enjoy the series finale? Were they disappointed at the ending? And what are their thoughts on this female-driven narco series as a whole?
Read below as we dive into the end of Queen of the South…
What were your thoughts on the series finale? Did you have a favorite moment?
Whitney: Deep down inside, I am a romantic. So I absolutely loved the ending and seeing James and Teresa and Pote and Kelly Anne together again and enjoying a meal together.
Happy endings are so rare on television, and I love that these four who have been through so much together got to have that moment, even if it took a long time to get there.

The final season of USA Network’s drama “Queen of the South” dropped this week, and to see the conclusion of drug queenpin Teresa Mendoza’s (Alice Braga) story is bittersweet. Teresa’s presence in the narco landscape was unique — from a media perspective, women in this world are often relegated to mules, victims, and sex workers, or a combination of all three. Teresa was never a victim, but instead used the drug world to call out its horrors, leading the audience to question her altruism in a world that does inherently hurt others.
When the show first premiered the emphasis on it being about and for Latinos was amped up, from music videos with Latino rappers being aired on USA and even having Argentinean soccer announcer Andres Cantor recapping the previous seasons in anticipation of the World Cup in 2018.

To watch Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga) over five seasons of USA Network’s “Queen of the South” is to examine femininity both within the narco culture and within the Latino community. The show has looked at human trafficking, sex work, and rape within the confines of the cocaine business, but also cast an eye towards the culture of misogyny that often boxes women in to be nothing more than compliant, happy wives. Teresa, as Braga herself describes her, is a survivor: A naïve girl transformed into the boss she was always meant to be.
Braga has created fantastic characters, from her role as Angelica in the 2002 feature “City of God” to her most recent work in HBO’s “We Are Who We Are.” But “Queen of the South” was not only Braga’s first foray into television, it was also her first time leading a television series. Unlike a feature,...

It was all about family on Queen of the South Season 4 Episode 12 and how that family handles a loss.
When it comes to Teresa's family, a loss must be avenged and Tony's death brought the entire crew back together.
But to Teresa's credit, she wasn't about to start spraying bullets all over New Orleans. She wanted her rage to be focused on the appropriate party.
Teresa: Taking a shipment is one thing. Killing Tony and trying to kill me is completely different.
Pote: Then who else could it have been?

There was no reason to suspect Judge Lafayette. As Teresa pointed out, she had just paid the man $30 million. He should have been happy, or at least as happy as the man is capable of feeling.

Even Marcel was quick to point out how profitable their relationship with Teresa has been.

There's no question that Queen of the South Season 4 Episode 1 has a new vibe as Teresa moves her empire to New Orleans and trades in her white business suit for white motorcycle leathers.
But it's clear that her goal of getting a footing in a legitimate business in America won't come easily.
The culture of corruption, not to mention racism, has the lines between legal and illegal looking blurry at best and it's going to take all of Teresa's skill to pull this off.
Has she underestimated how difficult this latest step in building her empire will be?
Running a cartel is like driving a motorcycle a hundred miles an hour in traffic, any miscalculation, any mistake can have fatal consequences.

Teresa is juggling a lot of proverbial balls in the air right now.

By the end of Queen of the South Season 3, Guero was dead, James had left, and Camila was on the run...but Teresa, Pote, and King George are still building an empire.
With Queen of the South Season 4, that empire will extend to New Orleans with new business opportunites, high drama, and gators!
Recently, I spoke with Alice Braga about how Teresa Mendoza has grown over the last three seasons, what makes her different than the other drug kingpins she's gone up against, what attracted Alice to the role in the first place, and who are her two loyal bodyguards!
I’m a huge fan of the show. I’ve been watching it since the beginning. What made you want to play Teresa Mendoza?
Thank you so much. It’s so interesting, because I read the book, I guess, like nine years ago maybe, it was a long time ago.

There is no business without a product to sell, and with El Santo in the wind, Teresa was left scrambling for a new supplier on Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 12.
She ended up playing her own version of Let's Make a Deal starting with Camila as her first contestant.
Do you think Camila requested that specific red dress or did James pick it out for her? Personally, I think the low cut front made her look trashy and even more desperate.
Camila always falls back on her power color, red, but Teresa does not need costumes. She owns her power without them.
Teresa: Camila is dangerous.
Pote: Yes she is but you’re safer with her under your nose.

Any deal with Camila Vargas would be tentative at best. Camila did her best to...

After the two seasons he spent slaying spirits on The Exorcist, you’d think Alfonso Herrera could face any foe with confidence. Then again, he hasn’t met Queen of the South‘s Teresa Mendoza yet.
Herrera joins the cast of the USA Network drama beginning Thursday, Sept. 6 (9/8c), and TVLine has an exclusive first look at his character — Javier Gallegos, “a mercenary willing to kill for a highest bidder” — in action. According to Javier’s official description, “his brash, untamed nature puts him at odds” with Teresa, his new boss.

Teresa Mendoza and Camila Vargas are similar creatures. They're both highly intelligent, resourceful, and driven.
And the people who underestimate or dismiss them because they are female generally live to regret it.
When last we saw Teresa Mendoza, she and Pote were on the run, leaving behind Guero but taking their Bolivian drug connection with them.
As Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 1 opens it's clear that the ends may very well justify the means as Teresa is expanding her drug empire throughout Europe.
Unfortunately, a one night stand with a handsome waiter threw a hitch into Teresa's plans. Damn loneliness and hormones! But I'm not convinced that living like a hermit would keep her much safer.

Not all mothers are created equal.
We love to celebrate the nurturing, supportive, and selfless moms on the small screen, but for every Jane Villanueva there's a Cersei Lannister.
Skip the Mother's Day cards for this group of the most selfish, manipulative and overbearing TV moms we love to hate.
1. Cersei Lannister (Game of Thrones) Cold and power-hungry are just two of the best ways to describe Cersei. She also gave birth to the worst child ever, Joffrey. Although she tries to paint herself as a mom who would do anything for her kids, when it comes right down to it, she's always looking out for number one. 2. Diana Dubois (Empire) It's hard to believe that the same woman who played one of the most beloved TV moms in history is also behind the cruel and conniving Diana Dubois.
