Promenade, a new film from John Jencks, has begun production in Brighton this week. More on the film below.
We’re hearing rumbles that a new British film is heading our way sooner rather than later from director John Jencks. The Hippopotamus director is helming Promenade, a Brighton set whodunnit, next and the project has just started filming, we hear.
The announcement comes with an ambiguous tagline: “50 Cast, 12 Stories, 1 Plot. No Heroes.” Colour us intrigued.
Here’s a synopsis for the film: In Brighton on the South coast of England, sharpened by the sting of sea spray, and mellowed by numinous light, a tight-knit community of oddballs and heart-felts live together in a tatty old mansion, the Fletcher Apartments. When a golden feather, the priceless antique mascot of the building, unexpectedly disappears, the residents have a mystery to solve. Will they find the talisman that previously bound them together, or will their community,...

A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.
Levine said, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design,...

Coming a few days after a set of first-look images, Scoop’s trailer shows Gillian Anderson as the notorious Emily Maitlis, whose grilling of Prince Andrew on the BBC led to an enormous humiliation for the prince, who has since settled a sexual assault case filed against him by Jeffrey Epstein-accuser Virginia Giuffre.

Maitlis is joined in Scoop, which launches April 5, by Rufus Sewell, who plays the prince, and Billie Piper, who plays Sam McAlister, the author of the source material that the movie is based on. Others featuring in the film include Romola Garai,...

The Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve) started filming last November, then underwent quite a shake-up earlier this year when the director of the first two episodes, Johan Renck (who executive produced and directed all five episodes of the HBO limited series Chernobyl) decided to leave the project over creative issues, then Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) – who had been cast as one of the show’s lead characters – followed him out the door. Now IGN reports that Dune: The Sisterhood has gone through another change, but this one much less drastic than having to start over with a different director and star. This one is simply a title change. Dune: The Sisterhood is now going by the title Dune: Prophecy. IGN also reports that the show is expected to start streaming in the...

Exclusive: Max’s Dune prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood is set to relaunch production in Budapest “any day now” and will continue throughout the course of the WGA and SAG strikes, a source close to the show tells Deadline.
The series thus takes the path of House of the Dragon and Industry, given that, like those HBO titles, which we reported on earlier in the day, The Sisterhood is an Equity contract production with some from SAG-AFTRA also in the mix. And per guidance from the actors guild stateside, members working under Equity contracts are to “continue to report.”
The Sisterhood resumes production following a November launch, leading into a hiatus that always was planned, our source tells us, to get around winter conditions in Hungary. The show also notably lost director Johan Renck, creator and pilot writer Diane Ademu-John (as co-showrunner) and stars Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma earlier this year,...

Ciarán Hinds is opening up about the great number of sex scenes the HBO series Game of Thrones had and weighed in on intimacy coordinators on set.
The actor who played the character of Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall, in the medieval fantasy epic was not a fan of the amount of sex the show featured.
“I was rather put off by the amount of sexuality that was going on in it, because it was taking away from the actual political storytelling,” he told The Independent in an interview. “But that’s business, I guess, from their perspective.”
In the same interview, Hinds also talked about intimacy coordinators on the sets of television shows that help ensure actors feel safe shooting a sex scene and facilitating dialogue with the production.
While having a conversation with his actor daughter Aoife Hinds, Hinds said, “I was asking her [about intimacy coordinators] because it seems to me strange.

The HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve) is having a rough ride on its way to the screen. First, the show lost showrunner Jon Spaihts (co-writer of the first Dune film) – and when he stepped away from the show it was said that he would be focusing on working on the screenplay for Dune: Part 2 with Villeneuve instead. The Hollywood Reporter’s sources also informed them that Spaihts had turned in one script and a revised outline for Dune: The Sisterhood, and the producers at Legendary weren’t happy with his work. So the decision was made that he was better off sticking with the features. Spaihts was replaced by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker… and then Ademu-John stepped down as well, leaving Schapker as the sole showrunner. Villeneuve had been planning to direct the first two episodes of the series,...

HBO Max’s “Dune” prequel spinoff “The Sisterhood” is going through some changes. Both director Johan Renck and star Shirley Henderson have exited the HBO Max series, Variety has confirmed.
The news comes as the production takes a “pre-scheduled hiatus,” according to the streamer.
“There are some creative changes being made to the production in an effort to create the best series possible and stay true to the source material,” a HBO Max representative said in a statement. “Johan Renck has completed his work on the series and a new director will be brought on; through mutual agreement Johan is moving on to pursue other projects. Additionally, Shirley Henderson will be exiting the series and will no longer be playing Tula Harkonnen.”
These aren’t the first departures to hit the production. In November of last year, series creator Diane Ademu-John parted ways with “The Sisterhood” as co-showrunner. However, she...

Much like how the original "Dune" novel was seemingly cursed to never make it to the screen, its prequel series may be developing the same notoriety. That's because "Dune: The Sisterhood," the prequel series to Denis Villeneuve's 2021 epic, has lost a significant number of creative talent as it undergoes an alleged overhaul. Deadline exclusively reported that star Shirley Henderson, who was slated to play Tula Harkonnen, has left the project alongside creator and co-showrunner Diane Ademu-John and director Johan Renck.
As of right now, there isn't one precise reason that can be traced to these exits. However, it does appear as if these exits were done separately on each party's accord. In a statement sent to Deadline, HBO Max implied that at least Renck's departure was on amicable terms, conflicting with the trade's sources that imply creative differences forced the director out. This could be the same reasoning behind the departure of Ademu-John,...

HBO Max’s return to Arrakis is taking a bit of a setback. The “Dune” prequel series has lost both its director and one of its stars, IndieWire has confirmed. This news does not in any way affect the release of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” this fall.
Johan Renck, who was set to direct the first two episodes of the show, and Shirley Henderson, who was set to play one of the leads, have both exited the series following the beginning of production in November. Production on the series, currently under the working title “Dune: The Sisterhood,” has reportedly been put on hold until replacements for both are found. A statement from HBO Max attributed the change to an “effort to create the best series possible.”

Chernobyl executive producer Johan Renck, who had signed on to direct the first two episodes, has exited the project. Search is underway for his replacement as production has been put on hold. Shirley Henderson, who had been tapped as one of the leads, also is leaving. Her role as Tula Harkonnen will be recast. A few of last year’s most notable horror movies are still without physical media releases, and that’s because they ended up being streaming exclusives. That list includes Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hulu’s Prey, along with Hulu and David Bruckner‘s Hellraiser.
We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.
The UK DVD release of Hellraiser (2022) arrives on March 27, 2023. As always, you’ll be able to watch the disc here in the States but you’ll need a Region Free DVD player first.
David Bruckner (The Night House), who helmed Netflix’s The Ritual as well as sections of Bloody Disgusting’s horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, directed the relaunch of the Hellraiser franchise for Spyglass Media,...

Talk about a match made in heaven — "Raised by Wolves" star Travis Fimmel has joined the cast of the upcoming HBO Max series "Dune: The Sisterhood." According to Variety, Fimmel, who played religious zealot Marcus on "Raised by Wolves" and starred as Ragnar Lothbrok on hit History Channel series "Vikings," will play a soldier named Desmond Hart. Could Desmond Hart be like Jason Momoa's character Duncan Idaho but for "The Sisterhood"? One can only hope.
Details are still somewhat scant for the "Dune" prequel series, which will take place 10,000 years before the events of "Dune: Part One," but Fimmel being added to the equation is definitely a huge bonus. After all, if anyone can handle the kind of wild and weird genre storytelling that happens in a "Dune" series, it's going to be the guy that played the most fascinating character on "Raised by Wolves." A new “Hellraiser” is upon us. The long-running horror franchise has a new, 11th installment, but this one – in a twist of fate – is good, actually!
“The Ritual” and “The Night House” director David Bruckner takes the helm of this “Hellraiser” reboot, which isn’t quite a remake of the original film but doesn’t completely upend the rules of the franchise either. It’s a new twist on the franchise with an emotional hook (the protagonist is an addict) and a new Pinhead (played by Jamie Clayton), but it delivers on the gore and practical effects that those coming to a “Hellraiser” movie would expect.
If you’re wondering how and when to watch the new “Hellraiser,” wonder no more.
When Did “Hellraiser” 2022 Come Out?

"Hellraiser" is back to bring you all the pain and pleasure you've been missing. Director David Bruckner's reboot "lifts the series out of the gutter to give it a touch of old-school charm," as Chris Evangelista wrote in his review for /Film. The movie follows brand new characters, including a brand new version of the iconic Pinhead character, and a whole lot of carnage.
The film works wonderfully as a first introduction to the world created by Clive Barker in the '80s, telling you just enough about the Cenobites without diving into the convoluted mythology of the ten-film franchise, all while still having plenty of references for fans.
Following the film's world premiere at Fantastic Fest, /Film has the chance to talk to have a spoiler-filled conversation with filmmaker David Bruckner and star Jamie Clayton about the ending of "Hellraiser," what the hell the main characters do after the carnage they experienced,...

Plot: A reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner in which a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Review: The Hellraiser franchise has had to weather a lot of mediocre sequels, nine to be exact, since Clive Barker’s directorial debut unleashed Pinhead upon the cinematic world. Defining the sadomasochistic world of the Cenobites, Barker’s 1987 horror film has ranked as one of the most iconic horror creations of all time. In the decades since, multiple filmmakers have tried to deepen the mythology of the original story by giving us origin stories and alternate realities featuring the puzzle box and demonic entities. None of these films has managed to evoke the sinister feel of the first movie or capitalize on the story’s potential until now.

It’s not likely that any review, positive or negative, will effect the reception of the latest “Hellraiser,” now the 11th addition to the cult horror franchise. Once certain properties attain cult status, its followers will delight in any offering, even if only to fuss over its ranking in the canon. Based off of Clive Barker’s 1986 novella and originally adapted by Barker in one of the great writer-to-filmmaker transformations, “Hellraiser” belongs to the freaks, punks, and fetishists who saw themselves in the S&m-inspired looks and story of unhinged sexual exploration.
Unfortunately, It’s Disney does “Hellraiser,” which — incidentally — is exactly who paid for this latest iteration the classic.
Shedding the subtitles like a cenobite’s skin, “Hellraiser” is a 2022 rebirth for the franchise, free of all the sexy subversion that got it here in the first place. It’s perfectly entertaining, using Barker’s inventive tropes to tell a solidly gory nightmare,...

Pity the poor monsters of legendary horror movie franchises: Time and familiarity and cruddy sequels render them toothless and soft, formerly ferocious animals one can now pet, their evil energy sapped by fan adoration. To be fair, there is entertainment value in the cartoonish experience of Freddy Krueger as a wisecracking quip machine, or viral videos posted by proud parents of deranged six-year-olds who terrorize playgrounds in Michael Myers costumes. There is Count Chocula.
But inevitably something is lost, and that has also been the fate of the “Hellraiser” film series, of which there were three released theatrically and seven more for the home market. As more and more sequels played fast and loose with creator Clive Barker’s thematic vision for his Cenobites — extra-dimensional entities that sought carnal experience, preying on conflicted human desires and obsessions — the quality suffered and those giddy, early thrills faded from memory. The films’ leading Cenobite,...

If the event you've ever played with a Rubix's Cube and thought you'd prefer more of a challenge, then Jamie Clayton has quite the contraption to share with you. After a string of movies based on Clive Barker's 1986 novella "The Hellbound Heart," most of which aren't that stellar, a reimagining of "Hellraiser" from director David Bruckner ("The Night House") will be streaming exclusively on Hulu within the coming weeks.
Although specific details on what Bruckner's film is going to be about, the film's synopsis indicates that whoever gets their hands on the Lament Configuration this time around is in for a very bad time with the hell demons known as the Cenobites:

David Bruckner's feature adaptation of Clive Barker's 1986 novella "The Hellbound Heart" brings forth a new Pinhead, the leatherbound nail-studded horror icon formerly popularized by Doug Bradley. Written by "The Night House" scribes Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski from a story developed with David S. Goyer, "Hellraiser" stays true to themes raised in Barker's original 1987 adaptation while offering a new iteration of the soul-harvesting Pinhead, played by Jamie Clayton.
Clayton struck friendships on and off the set, often hanging out with co-star Aoife Hinds, previously known for her role on BBC Three/Hulu drama miniseries "Normal People." In "Hellraiser" Hinds is one of several loved ones in the crosshairs of the Cenobites due to her proximity to Riley, who fiddles with the shiny death box and wreaks havoc on everyone. It's only a matter of weeks now until the dark priest of hell shows us all such sights with Hulu's new take on "Hellraiser." Based on Cliver Barker's novella "The Hellbound Heart," this new film from director David Bruckner ("The Night House") seems less concerned with whether it serves as a remake, reimagining, or sequel, and more with the prospect of making Pinhead scary again.
The film stars Hiam Abbass, Odessa A'zion, Adam Faison, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Selina Lo, Drew Starkey, and Goran Visnjic. Little is known of what "Hellraiser" is all about besides another group of curious minds toying with the deadly Lament Configuration, but the brief synopsis shows that, much like Ashley Laurence's Kirsty Cotton, another poor soul is about to come face to face with the infamous leader of the Cenobites known as Pinhead:

Get ready to have your soul torn apart.
Hulu’s “Hellraiser” reimagines Clive Barker’s iconic 1987 horror film for modern audiences, thanks to “The Night House” director David Bruckner. The film premieres October 7 as part of the streamer’s annual Huluween offerings.

Director David Bruckner has such sights to show us. The time to taste the pleasures of hell is soon upon us as the cenobites are set to invade your television on October 5 with the upcoming release of the highly anticipated "Hellraiser" reboot. The 1987 film, adapted by Clive Barker from his novella "The Hellbound Heart," and its subsequent sequels posit the great Doug Bradley as the legendary cenobite Pinhead. But the time has come for new blood to torture those curious about the Lament Configuration.

Akin to most horror icons, if an actor embodies the role for long enough, it can make it difficult for folks to adjust to a new actor filling their shoes. Bradley has already done enough direct-to-video "Hellraiser" flicks,...

"It opens up, and it cuts you! And then they come to collect…" Hulu has revealed an official trailer for Hellraiser, their brand new take on this classic horror franchise. David Brucker, of The Night House and The Ritual, directs from Clive Barker's original book, reuniting him with David Goyer as producer / writer. The big twist in this one is that the new Pinhead is a woman - played by Jamie Clayton. And she looks freaky!! Can't wait. In this reimagining of Clive Barker's seminal Hellraiser franchise, a young woman must confront the sadistic, supernatural forces behind an enigmatic puzzlebox responsible for her brother's disappearance. The ensemble cast includes Odessa A'zion, Jamie Clayton, Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Jason Liles, Yinka Olorunnife, Selina Lo, Zachary Hing, Kit Clarke, with Goran Visnjic and Hiam Abbass. This is gnarly, holy shit!! Looks like it might be brutal and extra gory.
