Hunter Biden’s federal trial on three gun-related charges kicked off in Delaware this week. The government alleges that the president’s son lied about his drug use on a form to buy a gun, and thus obtained the firearm illegally. On Wednesday, prosecutors called two of Biden’s exes — including Kathleen Buhle, to whom he was married for 20 years — to testify about his drug use.
Buhle, who was married to Biden from 1993 to 2017, said that from 2015 to 2019 she would often search Biden’s car and found drugs or drug...

The defense team for President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, told the jury that the 54-year-old was not an addict when he purchased the gun.

California Judge Mark Scarsi ruled against Hunter Biden’s attempt to dismiss the nine federal tax charges brought against him in California.
On December 7, 2023, Biden was indicted for three felonies and six misdemeanors. They were filed in addition to three federal firearms charges in Delaware, which charged that he lied about his drug use to buy a firearm, which he had for a brief period in 2018.
Federal law forbids gun possession by “habitual drug users.”
Still, a federal appeals court questioned its application as a standalone charge.
Special Counsel David Weiss said Hunter “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills.”
These charges primarily focus on almost $1.4 million in unpaid taxes that Hunter owed between 2016 and 2019, during which he publicly recognized his struggles with addiction. If convicted, Hunter could face a sentence of up to 17 years.

On Wednesday, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill for deposition in the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden, and to deny the claim that the president had any involvement in his business dealings.
House Oversight and Judiciary Committees members interviewed Hunter during a closed-door session on Capitol Hill.
The president’s son came for the deposition before 10:00 a.m. while being flanked by his attorney Abbe Lowell. He did not give statements or speak to reporters.
“I am here today to provide the Committees with the one uncontestable fact that should end the false premise of this inquiry: I did not involve my father in my business,” Hunter told lawmakers in his testimony. “Not while I was a practicing lawyer, not in my investments or transactions domestic or international, not as a board member, and not as an artist. Never.”

The prosecutor overseeing the Hunter Biden investigation last week indicted a key witness in the GOP’s case against Hunter Biden, Alexander Smirnov, for lying to the FBI. But Rep. Mike Turner, GOP chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, wants the Republican impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden regarding his son’s business dealings to continue to “its natural conclusion,” even though Rep. Jim Jordan recently said that “the most corroborating evidence” against the Bidens stems from Smirnov’s claims.
Turner appeared on Sunday’s Meet the Press where host Kristen Welker asked him about Smirnov.

FBI informant Alexander Smirnov has been indicted on charges of concoction of a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme that involved President Joe Biden, Biden’s son Hunter and a Ukrainian energy company.
The claims made by Smirnov have played a central role in the Republican-led impeachment inquiry against Biden.
Court documents say Smirnov, 43, falsely reported to the FBI in June 2020 that executives linked to the Ukrainian energy company Burisma had paid Hunter and Biden $5 million each in 2015 or 2016. Smirnov alleged that an executive had hired Hunter to leverage his father’s influence in order to avoid potential complications. However, prosecutors assert that Smirnov’s interactions with the company were routine business dealings in 2017, and he only made the bribery allegations after he expressed bias against Biden in his presidential candidacy.
After a brief appearance in Las Vegas court, Smirnov was charged with making false statements and creating a fictitious record. He did not enter a plea,...

Hunter Biden walked out of a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday as Chairman James Comer called Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to speak on a resolution to hold the president’s son in contempt of Congress.
Biden made a surprise, in-person appearance at the hearing and offered to address the committee directly. Last month, Biden had flouted a subpoena from the Oversight Committee ordering him to appear before Congress for a closed-door interview. The Fox News chyron blared, “Tempers flare as Hunter Biden crashes contempt hearing.” But on Wednesday, the network was joined by the two other major news networks in focusing on the legal travails of the president’s son.
Biden unexpectedly made an appearance at the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on whether to hold him in contempt after he declined to show for a behind-closed-doors congressional deposition last month. Instead, Hunter Biden said that he was willing to testify in the open.
“What you are watching is pure congressional mayhem,” CNN anchor John Berman told viewers of the scene.
At the hearing, Republican members appeared to be taken off guard by Biden’s appearance.
As Biden sat in the gallery, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Sc) said to him, “My first question is, Who bribed Hunter Biden to be here. My second question is, you are the epitome of white privilege.

According to House Democrats, former President Donald Trump received at least $7.8 million from foreign governments during two out of his four years in the White House.
The revelation came in a report released by the House Oversight Committee’s Democratic members on Thursday.
According to the report, 20 foreign governments in countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait helped finance Trump’s businesses within two years that the committee was able to look over.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland), the committee’s top-ranking Democrat, mentioned in the report’s foreword that these payments originated from some rival governments. It was confirmed in the report that most of the money came from China, which paid $5.5 million to properties owned by Trump.
“This is a limited window on a far-broader universe of foreign government spending that took place,” Raskin told the reporters on Capitol Hill.

Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) has once again flopped in his latest attempt to link President Joe Biden and his son Hunter to purported business dealings with foreign entities.
On Monday, the House Oversight Committee announced that Comer had released subpoenaed bank records allegedly “revealing Hunter Biden’s business entity, Owasco PC, made direct monthly payments to Joe Biden.” The statement touted that the committee allegedly found 20 shell companies and “uncovered how the Bidens and their associates raked in over $24 million dollars between 2015 and 2019 by selling Joe Biden as ‘the brand.

Hunter Biden said in a letter from his lawyer that he is willing to testify before a Republican-led House Oversight Committee on December 13.
Hunter was subpoenaed earlier this month to appear for a closed-door interview as part of Republican’s impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden.
“We have seen you use closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort the facts and misinform the public,” wrote his lawyer Abbe Lowell to Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Kentucky) on Tuesday.
“Your Committee has been working for almost a year— without success— to tie our client’s business activities to his father,” said Lowell. “You state that one of your purposes is to review how a President’s family’s business activities raise ethics and disclosure concerns to inform the basis for a legislative solution.”

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, agreed to testify in a public hearing before the House Oversight Committee. Republicans immediately shot him down.
According to a Tuesday letter addressed to committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), Biden agreed to testify before the committee on Dec. 13 — as long as the hearing was public. In the letter, Biden’s attorneys quoted Comer’s own demand, issued in November, that given Biden’s “willingness to address this investigation publicly up to this point, we would expect him to be willing to testify before Congress.

President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, plans to plead not guilty to federal gun charges, his attorney stated in a Tuesday filing, according to The New York Times.
Last week, Hunter Biden was indicted on three counts related to possessing a firearm while under the influence of narcotics. He is requesting to hold his initial court hearing over video instead of in person, per the filing.
“Mr. Biden also will enter a plea of not guilty, and there is no reason why he cannot utter those two words by videoconference,...

It didn’t take long for Hunter Biden’s lawyer to reject a request made Wednesday by House Republicans for documents regarding the president’s son’s business dealings.
The morning after Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, wrote to Hunter Biden seeking financial and scheduling documents as well as communications with his father, uncle, and aunt from Jan. 20, 2009 to Jan. 20, 2021, Biden attorney Abbe Lowell sounded off, writing that the committee “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose,” as Biden is a private citizen, according to The Washington Post.

President Trump built a not insignificant part of his political career on demonizing Hillary Clinton for using a private email server to conduct government business. On Thursday, Americans were provided with more evidence that the problem is rampant within Trump’s own administration.

When Trump’s inaugural team filed documents with the Federal Election Commission last year showing it managed to raise a record $107 million — nearly double the previous record set by President Barack Obama in 2009 — it prompted questions among critics and observers, mainly: Where did all that money go?
A new investigative report now suggests some of that money may have been funneled into the Trump Organization in coordination with the president’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump.
According to interviews, internal emails and receipts reviewed by Wnyc and ProPublica, the inaugural committee may have paid inflated fees to the Trump Organization for rooms, meals and event space at the company’s Washington hotel.
