Peter Gunn: The Death Frame (1960)
Season 3, Episode 6
Spotty Plot with Compensations
14 June 2015
The plot may be familiar, but the many stylish touches lift the storyline. Pete's framed for murder by a racketeer intent on expanding into new territory. Nothing particularly new here. However-- consider Edie's gripe with her chef, the fey bone-loving tipster, Pete's bent neck, and the gnarly ham-fisted thug— all add color to the proceedings. Include Pete's bantering chemistry with Jacoby and the inventive camera angles, and we've got an uplift even when the plot's pretty spotty. I expect this was also one of the first mentions of 'karate' martial arts, then new to these shores. No, this isn't A-grade Gunn, but it still manages to hold interest. Besides, I'm wondering if the gorgeous Ms Albright had any daughters.
