Warning: Spoilers
Clearly the success of Vikings to date was Travis Fimmel. And now he is very very gone. The writing, the directing has all lost its center. And its dynamic. The gruesome battle scene at York checked all the boxes and that was the problem. The viewer could SEE the boxes being checked. The spikes through soldiers eyes, and mouths. The horror and squelch of their bodies as their king steps on them to get past the spikes. Horror . . . for its own sake. To entertain. Because that's all the series has now to keep us in it. Gruesomeness.

I wish Ivar was enough. And with better writing and directing, he could be. But the camera hovered WAY too long on his mad, blood-drenched face as he faced down the Saxon soldiers. Just horrible directing and timing.

And Floki. But even Floki without his 'face' is without power to hold us.

Its gone. I was willing for it to continue without Ragnar and, of course it will. But without me. For me, it has lost its power. It's boring and obvious.
