King Aethelwulf and Bishop Heahmund find a weak spot to attack York; however it is a trap plotted by the Northmen and they are defeated. Ubbe and Hvitserk wants to negotiate peace with the Saxons to farm the land against Ivar's will. They are betrayed and humiliated and Ivar wins the leadership of the Great Army. Ubbe decides to return to Kattegat. Meanwhile Astrid is imprisoned and changes her behavior toward Harald.

The battle in York has great action scenes and the humiliation of Ubbe and Hvitserk is predictable, but why the brothers were spared by Bishop Heahmund? He knows they are brave warriors so why keeping powerful and wounded enemies alive? The conclusion with the sons of Ragnar splitting was not expected. My vote is nine.
