Warning: Spoilers
This film is currently on the BFI player. It is the English of a film made in 3 languages.John Longden plays an Austrian officer who is responsible for the shooting the son of a Jewish elder of the village. When the Austrian army is driven out by the Russians he is hidden by the man and his daughter Norah Baring.Naturally they fall in love. The father tries to get rid of the officer in a way that unhappily backfires, cue a downbeat ending.Although there are implicit references to anti semitism this film is rather a slow plod.It is notbhelped by the directors stretching the dialogue to ridiculous lengths. It was virtually the end of his career for many years to come.
