Vikings: The Revelation (2018)
Season 5, Episode 11

Ivar is still as insufferable as before
29 November 2018
The First half of the season and what looks to be the rest of it, will still be weakened by the acting of Ivar. The rest seems to still be good enough to hold me as a viewer for now. I hope they Focus much more on Bjorn, and develop King Alfred significantly, but that'll rely on character progression and the actor taking the reigns of developing him into a evolving figure.

And just forget the Floki nonsense, or wrap that up quickly. He was a good character in the earlier seasons, but they truly blew it with that later on in my opinion. And the supporting cast around him are extras with no personality who they give way to much screen time to. It's a shame rolo doesnt look to be making any significant return.

All and all very mixed bag, and compared to earlier seasons.. well, i could rate this much more harshly if i was making that honest comparison. Replacing Ivar's actor wouldnt bother me at all at this stage, it could save the series in many ways. I don't blame a lot of viewers for giving up on this show based just on him. The history of his character is so nonspecific that he could have played the part in so many ways, why did the actor and show runner have to go with irritating, smiling, insecure - annoying psycho. Could have been brooding, quiet, cunning, cold - relentless tactician. In my opinion that would suit the master strategist that he's supposed to be according to folk lore history.

6 1/2 for this ep
