First off this isn't what I was expecting. I think most of us were expecting the fabled horror stories of legend like the original Penny Dreadful series addressed. But honestly, that series ended and people need to accept that. I admire this new direction for the show. I think they are probably following in the footsteps of AMC's THE TERROR and will have different stories and cast for subsequent seasons. Not a bad idea. As for CITY OF ANGELS....there is a lot to like. It plays off the film noir of 1930s/40s Hollywood. Personally the "supernatural" part of the story feels weak after just one episode, but they are holding true to the original series concept. Overall once you get past that...its quite an enjoyable show.
