This show is a gem. Episode 1 features excellent character development and episode 2 further builds on that, giving you very textured characters you get to deeply care about. Much of that is owed to the impressive young actress Isla Johnston playing young Beth and of course Anya Taylor-Joy whose stares and subtle expressions come with such intensity that no words are even needed. Notice how that chess game at the end has zero dialogue yet the tension and suspense are so palpable.
