I have to admit I'm not a fan of del Toro's movies. His movies are often visual appealing, but his stories are odd and often too fantastical for my liking. I just don't understand why this is got an Oscar. The Hellboy movies are just awful, Pan's Labyrinth was weird, and The Shape of Water is to slow and too long to tell a love story of a woman falling in love with an Amazonian fish-man creature in captivity. The cinematography is great and the scoring is likable, but the story ruined the movie for me. None of the cast was memorable enough for me to take notice of their performance. The only del Toro movies he contributed too I can tolerate are the Hobbit series, and those weren't original or new storylines but an adaption of someone else's work.
