Another Fun Summer of Camp...
14 February 2024
Sleepaway Camp came out a few years after the famous Friday the Thirteenth. It's a ripoff, but I was really impressed with it. Friday the Thirteenth mostly focuses on the consolers, a lot of sex and a lot of grizzly murders. Where as Sleepaway camp, feels more like an actual summer camp. It's very down to earth. And lets us know some of the campers and relationships going on.

The movie has a very realistic feel to it. With a mixture of all ages of kids. Many pranks and boy's being boys moments. Finding first love or just fooling around. And as always there's a bully or two to make life harder. It's very practical. The first actual attack takes a while to happen. But all the kills are grizzly, gross and very practical and realistic. By making it that way, it adds to the creepy feel, because it makes you think, oh wow, that could happen at my camp.

The ending is what makes the movie shine. I did guess from the start who the killer would be, but I did not guess the full extent of the twist at the end. And it really was a twist that you don't forget. The movie also touches on subjects that are not normally in a horror flick, especially for the year it was made. I think this movie will always have a place on the charts for it's shocking ending.
