The Addiction (1995)
6/10
An Artistic Film
24 February 2024
I was not prepared for what I was getting myself into when watching this... Not a normal vampire movie. The film is extremely artistic. There's a lot of moments where there is very little talking. Odd camera angles. It's slow and the entire movie is in black and white. This is done for artistic effect and deeper meaning. The blood is very black and thick, it looks gross. It makes vampirism look like a nasty gross addiction. And it also points out the fact that being a vampire is an addiction, to blood, just like any other addiction.

The movie is basically a gospel message, about sin and redemption. It's done in a way that I have never seen before. Especially in a vampire movie. The movie is really heavy with philosophy quotes and the deeper meaning of life. It really tries to hone in on the fact that we love sin and we can't say no to it. Because at our roots we are evil. We were born evil and we can't help but be it... And the only way to beat it, is to die to sin, annihilate self and fill your heart with something Holy... this is the main message of the movie.

It's a really deep movie, with a lot of deep meaning. It's very heavy. And very dark. It's very artistic.
