Code 8 (2019)
5/10
Not Satisfying.

A movie about police, crime, drugs, same old same old, but add in powers and robots. I'm not sure why they thought adding in abilities and robots would make it better? When you add in an element like powers and the cool technology like robots and stuff, I expect things to be different, fresh and interesting. A different kind of world with different issues. But instead the movie gave us the same over-used boring things. A film about drugs and police trying to stop the drugs and put the criminals behind bars...

The special effects were fantastic, the filming was great, the story is where the movie faltered. It gave us no hero or enemy. It gave us no one to root for or hate. And it didn't really give us a cool story that sticks in the mind and makes you want more. It was just "ok". The movie had so much potential for something amazing. Like a revolution or war or the underground world or something cool like humans fighting ability people. But instead it came up very tame. We never really got to see the limits or how far one could go with their powers. An uprising would have been really fun to watch. And even the robot action was very short lived. There really wasn't a lot of action in the movie and when there was it was much tamer then it needed to be, very short lived.

One of the most disappointing things about the movie is Stephen Amell. He's not mean, he's not good, he's just there. Soft spoken and apparently a big bad drug lord. But he doesn't act like one. It's not believable. He's not believable. It felt more like he was a face for the movie. He's well known and it would get some attention to the film if he was there. His brother Robbie Amell is a better actor, but he always looked so innocent and "good". He doesn't come off like a tough guy or someone willing to do whatever it takes. Even though that's what he's trying to convince us he is.

The movie is interesting with the abilities and stuff and gives a tiny spice to the normal plot that we know so well. But it's not memorable and falls very flat on the radar of "great". There's very little emotion in the film, which makes the viewer feel next to nothing. And the ending is very unsatisfying.
