Here at Et, we're obsessed with a lot of things -- and for the week of June 19 to June 25, this is what we're most excited about:
Why We're Obsessed With 'Boy Band'
While NBC's America's Got Talent has been bringing us solid rounds of auditions, ABC is about to launch their own singing competition with Boy Band. That's right, the twist: Male vocalists battle it out for one of 18 spots in three boy bands to be the next music-group sensation. We have high hopes for this show with Rita Ora as the host, and former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter and rapper Timbaland making up the judging panel. The 10-episode show, created by the team behind Lip Sync Battle, will commence with Carter and Bunton mixing contestants around while viewers will be able to vote to find the best vocal combinations .

“Sausage Party” may be a film about a hotdog that wants to have sex with a bun, but it still represents a watershed moment for Hollywood. The raunchy comedy that’s grossed $65 million after two weeks in theaters is the first R-rated CG animated movie. Co-written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, “Sausage Party” has sex, violence and curse words in a format that has always been reserved for family-friendly fare.

The movie features the voices of comedic stars like Rogen, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, James Franco and Paul Rudd playing anthropomorphized food items who discover their only reason for existing is to be eaten by humans. Directors Conrad Vernon (“Monsters vs. Aliens”) and Greg Tiernan (TV’s “Thomas & Friends”) have backgrounds in traditional animation aimed at children, but there’s nothing traditional about this deranged dark comedy.

Back in 2007, Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl starred in Judd Apatow’s hit comedy “Knocked Up.” The film was well received and became a modern comedy classic, but Heigl quickly seemed to have second thoughts about it. She revealed in a 2008 interview with Vanity Fair that she didn’t like the way she was portrayed in the film and how it “paints the women as shrews,” while the men look “lovable,” further adding that “it was hard for me to love the movie.”
In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Rogen addressed the long-time feud and said that he was surprised by Heigl’s reaction, because he says their time on set was great and there were never any problems.
“I thought she hated us,” Seth told Stern. “We made a movie, I was very proud of it, it was critically very well received. Then we just heard that she...

Seth Rogen’s dark comedy “Sausage Party” hits theaters this weekend. The animated film tells the story of grocery store food finding out what happens to them in the real world where they are chopped up, boiled and cooked so they can be eaten by people. The film is rated R but it was first categorized as Nc-17 by the MPAA because of an eight-minute food orgy scene.
Rogen sat down with Howard Stern to discuss the film and what he had to cut to get the rating he wanted.
“There is a very sexually charged scene in the film, there is a pita bread with a scrotum,” he told Stern, adding that the lunch meat were involved in an orgy. “We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, ‘Ok, these are like our sacrificial lambs.’”

A few days ago, we’d have said that Marvel would have to move heaven and earth to convince Sony to let Spider-Man play in its cinematic sandbox, so now that such a deal has finally come to fruition, it only follows that there are some fascinating details to parse out, both about the financial and logistical aspects of the webslinger’s future.
A new report delineates the specifics of Marvel and Sony’s arrangement, which involves far less money changing hands that one might have suspected. Marvel did not have to pay to snag Spider-Man for Captain America: Civil War and (almost certainly) Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2. However, the studio is also not expected to receive any of the box office from future Spider-Man movies, and similarly, Sony will not get a cut of the profits from any Marvel titles featuring the wall-crawler. Both studios signed the deal confident...

If This Is Your First Time Here: Welcome! This is my weekly column where I talk about superhero movie news, rumors and speculation. Dr. Strange director Scott Derrickson thinks I'm a F*cktard. Sony probably isn't too psyched with me either right now.
This Week: Let's elaborate more on that Aunt May thing. Then, Did You See Attilan On TV Last Night?!?!?!
I guess the best place to start would be with this week’s Aunt May story, namely that Sony is developing an Aunt May solo movie, or that’s what I said. Because Comic Book Resources reached out to their source and got a denial:
When reached by Cbr News, a source within Sony stated that the report of a Spider-Man spinoff starring a young Aunt May is a “silly rumor” with “no validity whatsoever.”
Now, it’s a battle of the unnamed sources, although...

If you thought that Sony’s plans for the flailing Amazing Spider-Man franchise were crazy before, I suggest you buckle up because this new development is quite a doozy. We know that Sony is still reeling from the disappointment that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and that the studio’s plans for the future of the series are uncertain. The planned Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs are spinning their wheels, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been delayed until an unspecified date in 2018, there’s been talk of doing a “soft reboot” of the character through Sinister Six (if that movie even happens), there’s talk of bringing Gwen Stacy back, and the proposed female-led spin-off film, dubbed Glass Ceiling, is a head-scratcher.
The one thing that all of those films have in common, however, is that they at least feature superpowered characters within the Spider-Man universe who could, with the right approach,...

It's known that Sony Pictures isn't sure of what to do next with its "Spider-Man" franchise. Yes "Sinister Six" and "Venom" are planned, but for now it seems various ideas and possibilities are being floated about.
There also seems to be a push to give female characters in this universe their time in the sun, with the rumor the other week being of a spin-off codenamed "Glass Ceiling" involving several female "Spider-Man" characters teaming up.
This week's rumor though tops that in terms of sheer unexpected craziness. Latino Review reports that the studio is looking to do a spin-off film about Aunt May, yes Peter Parker's aunt.
According to the site, the project essentially sounds like Sony's attempt at an "Agent Carter" style scenario with a young May Parker caught up in a "Mad Men"-era espionage story.
At present, "Sinister Six" is the next actual film coming from the...

If anyone thought that Sony Pictures still had the ability to save The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, you may want to sit down for this. It's no secret that the studio has been struggling with The Amazing Spider-Man as the comic book movie series hasn't been nearly as successful as they hoped. Is it fatigue with Spider-Man, or has Sony just not done anything good enough for fans who have seen what Marvel Studios can do with their superheroes? It's tough to say definitively, but an idea that's being developed at the studio proves that they have absolutely no idea what they're going to do with the property beyond Spider-Man. There have been rumblings of a female-led Spider-Man universe movie (the latest includes a team-up of female Spider-Man universe characters codenamed Glass Ceiling), but Latino Review has heard that Sony Pictures has been developing a movie focused on Aunt May (recently...

Despite the struggles Sony has had with the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, they are still attempting to structure a universe revolving around the famed Wall-Crawler. Much of this world-building is happening through the spinoffs they.ll be releasing in the coming years, There.s Sinister Six, the Venom spinoff (which may also include Carnage) and a a project tentatively titled Glass Ceiling that would feature several female Spider-Man characters teaming up. Now, there.s a fourth idea that.s been thrown into the mix, and it.s doubtful that anyone saw this coming, and if you did, congratulations, you.re clairvoyant. According to Latino Review, Sony is working on a movie about Peter Parker.s Aunt May. Apparently the film would follow her as a young woman, long before she was tasked with raising her nephew, and would be an "espionage story" in the vein of the AMC series Mad Men.

Here comes Trouble, and I might mean that literally.
It’s been obvious from the various and absolutely crazy rumors about upcoming Spider-Man movies that Sony is struggling to find a direction for the franchise and the crazier the rumors get the more it seems like they’d rather milk the property from every single angle rather than give the main character back to Marvel. What started as rumors of villain-centric series, The Sinister Six and Venom, has been transformed by the increasing chorus of disappointed sighs from Amazing Spider-Man 2 to Venom: Carnage and “a female lead Spider-Man movie” that might be a crazy movie codenamed Glass Ceiling that features female Spider-Man Universe characters that have never been team-up before in history, let alone on screen.
Now, it’s my solemn duty to put another wild Sony thrashing Spider-Movie on the pile of rumored Spider-Man movies. I was...

Now that DC and Marvel have each set out their respective superhero stalls for the next five to six years, all eyes have turned to Sony with one burning question at the forefront of everyone’s mind: what is the future of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise?
We know that the company has postponed the third instalment in the series for at least two years, meaning the threequel won’t crawl onto the silver screen until 2018 at least. And it appears as though the studio wish to use that extended window to overhaul or, at the very least, fine-tune the series going into the future.
Since then, the rumour mill has been in full force as just last week reports suggested that Sony will adopt an all-female Spider-Man pic under the Glass Ceiling moniker. But today, we’ve learned of another speculative tidbit that suggests the company may bring back Emma Stone...

We still have yet to see what Sony Pictures plans on doing with Spider-Man. We've heard rumors that the character will possibly be rebooted yet again with Sinister Six as a Dirty Dozen kind of story. We've also heard that Marvel might be in negotiations with the studio to introduce Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe. Who knows what's really going on with Spider-Man at this point other than those who are directly involved with making things happen?

Sony Pictures still seems to be sorting out how to move forward with their "Spider-Man" franchise and today, one of the more interesting rumors about what they are considering has emerged over at Badass Digest.
The site says the studio is developing a project currently going by the in-development (and decidedly not final) title "Glass Ceiling". The project aims to bring all of the female Spider-Man characters together.
This could well be the female-lead Spider-Man movie that Lisa Joy Nolan was hired to pen the script for back in August this year. At the time it wasn't certain which character would be the focus, but this would seen to indicate it won't be one but an ensemble.
The site suggests the likes of The Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Girl, Silk, Spider Woman and Firestar are all mentioned as possibilities for the project. None of this is confirmed, and for now...

DC has played its cards. Marvel has played its cards. So what's Sony up to with its Spider-Man movie universe?
The deafening silence from Sony over the future of its planned Spider-Man movie universe is doing little to dampen down the rumour mill. The last we heard, the planned Venom movie was off the schedule, and the Sinister Six film - that Drew Goddard has been involved with - would introduce a new actor as Spider-Man. At this stage, it'd be a surprise to many if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 actually went ahead as originally planned.
Something else that was rumoured was that Sony would be the first out of the traps with a superhero movie headlined by a woman. The obvious choice, given that she was seeded in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is Black Cat. But while Sony has been making its mind up, both Marvel and DC have stolen its thunder.

There was a hot 20 minutes the other day before Marvel announced it's complete Phase 3 line-up that people were thinking it was going to be a big return home for Spider-Man, currently looking pretty broke and exhausted over in Sony Pictures land.
I do no think that is possible. If you're Sony, why give away all that potential superhero franchise money to the people who Obviously do not need their once-banner property back? At least not until you drive it all the way into the ground, and Amazing Spider-Man 2 is not rock bottom.
Thusly, we get rumors of a Sinister Six movie that will re-boot the character, or a Venom movie, maybe (because give that character another chance to kill the franchise, why not?). Now, in the craziest, zeitgeist-chasing-ist, wacked-out rumor of a Spider-Man movie yet, we get some rumored details on that "female lead" installment we've suspected.

Out of the four studios concerned with comic book movie adaptations, it’s safe to say that Sony is not leading the charge. The studio’s rebooted Spider-Man franchise was ushered in too soon after Sam Raimi’s trilogy wrapped up, and it has suffered dire consequences as a result. If the material had worked and audiences’ interests were suitably piqued, Sony’s eagerness to reboot the webhead would have made no difference. But then The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit – and suffered an onslaught of critical derision, not to mention a dissatisfying box office return. Now, it seems Sony is attempting to beat a dead horse by reviving Spider-Man via an entirely new idea, under the title Glass Ceiling.
According to Badass Digest (via Collider), Sony is rumoured to be developing a new feature that will include a team of female Spider-Men. The idea first landed back in August, when...

After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to do the business Sony must have expected, it's become clear that they're not really sure how to continue. A third movie is still on the cards, but before that there are plans for several spinoffs, including Venom, Sinister Six, and a female-led flick that will focus on a supporting character from the Spider-Man comics. Well, Badass Digest claim to have some new info regarding a couple of these movies. First, they reckon the Sinister Six film might actually be a soft reboot, which would see Spidey team up with the villains for a "Dirty Dozen style story". Then, instead of just one female character taking the reigns, they mention a "team-up movie that would bring the female Spidey characters together." The current title is said to be "Glass Ceiling", but that'll likely change if the project gets off the ground -- and that...

The House of Horrors investigation continues on this week’s Scott & Bailey, in addition to Rachel’s very recent marriage rapidly crumbling. Fun times in Manchester!
If there is anything positive about this investigation, it’s that we get to see more of Dsi Julie Dobson. The episode starts with her and Gill examining the grim row of skeletons exhumed from the Bevan household, and as they drive away, talking smack and figuring shit out like the damn fine detectives they are. This convo is brought to a halt, however, when they get a call informing them that yet another body has been found at the home, this one wedged between some floor boards. It turns out to be the missing sister, Sheila. Which really makes you think, if you didn’t already, that it’s a wonder Helen and Julie got out of that piece alive.

Hanging with bikers, vampires and surfing bank robbers, Kathryn Bigelow has made a name for herself chasing after adrenaline. After mixed reviews and a bad box office break for her Soviet submarine flick K-19: The Widowmaker, Bigelow developed one of writer Mark Boal‘s articles into a television series for Fox called The Inside, then chose to work with him to turn his experiences embedded in Baghdad-patrolling bomb squad into The Hurt Locker. The film — which she never took to studios, opting instead for independent financing and freedom — was a marvel, earning a massive amount of critical love and earning both the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director for Bigelow. She’s a fierce talent who has weathered a decades-long career to emerge as an important modern storyteller who takes on difficult, true-life events and spins them into profound works. So here’s a bit of free film school (for fans and filmmakers alike) from a...

For a performer so deeply rooted in physical comedy, Tituss Burgess comes across as awfully moody on his new album, "Comfortable." But as it turns out, the 33-year-old actor, singer and songwriter intended it that way.
"I'm a person who does not like to journal, I don't like to sit down and write…i don't even like sending emails," Burgess, who stole scenes from Alec Baldwin and fellow guest star Sherri Shepherd on "30 Rock" as the sassy hairdresser D'Fwan, says. Still, he cites recent events -- among them the U.S. presidential election -- as providing him with ample emotion: "We're living in a time when people are no longer hiding their dislike for one another; in some cases, they're proud of their hatred."
A stage veteran whose New York credits include "The Little Mermaid" and "Guys and Dolls," Burgess gets surprisingly introspective on "Comfortable," with tunes that pair soaring vocals with mellow,...

I have little story I’d like to tell about the Hollywood Glass Ceiling.
I frequently talk with my director girlfriends about how hard it is for women to get directing gigs on major TV Shows and studio feature films. But I rarely question the system. Until now.
Recently, something wonderful happened to a film school acquaintance of mine – he had won the Student Emmy for his truly great thesis film. This very prestigious award was presented by a producer/director of a prime-time television drama on Fox. This producer was impressed by my acquaintance’s thesis film and invited him on set to shadow the director (shadowing is when someone observes a working director during film or TV production). After shadowing, my friend was hired to direct an episode.
This guy is a terrific person, very deserving and very humble. He knows how fortunate he was...

Old Gods never die: They either make TV or movie deals. Well, not exactly. In Marie Phillips's best-selling debut novel 'Gods Behaving Badly,' the old Greek gods and goddesses are living in a tumbledown house in modern-day London and facing a very serious problem: their powers are waning, and immortality does not seem guaranteed. Apollo is a TV psychic, Aphrodite is a phone-sex worker, Artemis, the goddess of the moon, chastity and the hunt, has been working as a dog walker. Now transpose that to a brownstone in New York, put the film in the hands of Marc Turtletaub (producer of "SherryBaby" and "Little Miss Sunshine") as his feature directorial debut, add a gigantic cast of Hollywood stars and you get one interesting production: Christopher Walken as Zeus, the king of the gods; John Turturro as lord of the underworld, Hades; Sharon Stone as...
