Hollywood veterans Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis are widely regarded as 3 of the greatest action heroes of all time, having gifted some of the most immersive pieces to the cinema. That’s why, when they collaborated for The Expendables films series, the result was nothing short of a pure blissful experience for audiences and big bucks for the actors.

However, years before they even started working together in this action-packed franchise created by Sly — nearly two decades, to be precise — this star-studded trio collaborated for a joint project in 1991 to earn millions of dollars merely from promotion. How? Well, simply because this project was the themed restaurant chain Planet Hollywood, investing in which brought in big bucks for the trio.

Speculation has arisen of late that the WNBA could seek its own media deal in this round of negotiations, but Adam Silver wants to keep the two leagues together.
Just how valuable an asset will Caitlin Clark be to the WNBA? The former Iowa guard’s stardom could be worth tens of millions of dollars to the league, which sees its broadcasting deal with ESPN expire after the 2024-25 season. The WNBA is currently negotiating a new broadcast rights contract jointly with the worldwide leader in sports alongside the NBA, but reports indicate that the women’s league could strike out on its own and make a new deal without the NBA’s help. But speaking at the NBA Board of Governors’ meeting this week, league commissioner Adam Silver said that he believes that the two leagues are best off negotiating with broadcast partners together.

Sony Pictures Television has optioned “Is it Hot in Here? (Or Am I Suffering for All Eternity for the Sins I Committed on Earth),” the debut collection of essays from comedian and writer Zach Zimmerman, for TV adaptation.
“Is it Hot in Here?” is described as a “memoir-esque exploration of selfhood” chronicling Zimmerman’s journey from being a “straight, meat-eating, Southern Baptist to a queer, vegetarian, atheist socialist,” including stories about them learning to overcome their religious guilt or reminiscing over Tinder dates gone wrong. Published by Chronicle Books, “Is it Hot in Here?” was released on April 18.
The option is the second commitment between Sony Pictures Television and Zimmerman, who secured a blind script deal at the studio in 2022.
Zimmerman has previously written essays and humor pieces for the New Yorker, McSweeney’s, the Washington Post and the Independent. They also hosted and wrote for the Scruff trivia game “Hosting,...

“The Man In The Back Seat” (working title) a series development from novelist David Peace (“Red Riding”) and actor-writer, Ted Reilly, is the company’s first foray into the original true-crime genre. Based on events documented in the book “The Long Silence” by Paul Stickler, who serves as a consultant, the series will follow the 1962 criminal case, where after the longest trial in British legal history, James Hanratty was executed for the murder of Michael Gregsten, and the rape and attempted murder of Valerie Storie.

The recent PlayStation State of Play event featured the reveal trailer for a surprisingly intriguing Robin Hood PlayStation 5 (and PC) game called Hood: Outlaws & Legends.
“Hood is not one person. It is an idea. A symbol to the people. A legend,” says game director Andrew Willans via the PlayStation Blog. “Because we are retelling a legend rather than being historically accurate, we have created our own version of Dark Ages Britain, a time when old-world myth and superstition compete with man-made power. In this time of feudal law, a powerful authority known as The State is trying to bring order to the chaos. But this comes at great cost to people’s liberties, and many consider The State to be as brutal as the ruthless militia who are fighting against their rule.”
While that sounds like an interesting take on the Robin Hood character and universe, we’d argue that...

Oscar-winning film producer behind One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Amadeus and The English Patient
The career of the film producer Saul Zaentz, who has died aged 92, was marked not only by his independence (his productions were often largely self-funded) but also by his dedication to each individual film. Unlike most producers, who have numerous projects on the go, Zaentz worked on just one at a time. This resulted in a relatively short CV but one with a high share of Oscars, including three best picture winners: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), Amadeus (1984) and The English Patient (1996).
Zaentz was born in Passaic, New Jersey, the youngest of five children of Russian-Polish Jewish parents, Morris and Goldie. An avid reader and a fan of pop music, movies and sport, he ran away from home as a teenager to work at the St Louis Cardinals baseball team's training camp, then rode...

Sadly, one of Hollywood's great movie producers has died. The winner of three Best Picture Oscars and the Academy's coveted Irving Thalberg Award, Saul Zaentz fought for quality and boasted extraordinary taste which he never compromised. Paul Zaentz wrote in an email that his uncle, who was 92, died Friday. He was at home in the Bay Area, where he had lived most of his adult life. Zaentz, born of immigrant Jewish parents in Passaic, New Jersey, defined the creative producer. He painstakingly developed material for years, was willing to mortgage his Zaentz Film Center for financing if need be, and saw every movie through to completion and release. His first film, Darryl Duke's "Payday" (1972), was a gritty indie starring Rip Torn as a tough country singer. Next the producer backed "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," the surprise United Artists drama that took home five Oscars in 1976 including Best Picture,...

Deborah Kerr in the classic ghost story The Innocents, screenplay by Truman Capote.
The Anthology Film Archives in New York is holding a unique film festival throughout the month of September honoring screenwriters who were best known for their work as novelists. Here are the details:
On this calendar we are highlighting the screenwriting work of writers best known as novelists – including pulp novelists like Richard Matheson, Donald Westlake, and Elmore Leonard, cult figures such as Don Carpenter and John Fante, and such highly respected authors as Truman Capote and Joan Didion. Paying homage to the long tradition of novelists trying their hand at writing for the movies, we will present a selection of films based not on these writers’ novels, but on their original screenplays (which are sometimes adaptations of other novelists’ work).
From The Pen Of is programmed in close collaboration with author/musician Alan Licht.
Very special thanks to Alan Licht,...

Embattled actor Rip Torn is writing his autobiography in a bid to show fans he's more than just the alcoholic he's been portrayed as in the press.
The "Men In Black" star, 80, embarked on a career in Hollywood after graduating from Texas A&M University, landing roles in films such as "Payday" (1972), "The Man Who Fell To Earth" (1976) and "Cross Creek" (1983), for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. But Torn, who also enjoyed several stints on Broadway, has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late, following his arrest for a drunken bank break-in last year.
The actor was sentenced to probation and ordered to enroll in a treatment program after he was found sprawled on the floor of the Litchfield Bancorp building in his hometown of Salisbury, Connecticut clutching a revolver. The star reportedly told cops he thought the building was his home.

Capri in the acclaimed 1972 film Payday
Sad to report that Ahna Capri was killed in a car accident over the weekend in La. She began as a child actress in the 50s and morphed into a sexy 60s starlet who resembled a cross between Sandra Dee and Joey Heatherton. Using the name Anna Capri, she appeared in such films as Kisses for My President and The Girls on the Beach (co-star Gail Gerber remembers Anna as "such a lovely girl. I remember when first meeting her I couldn't believe how beautiful she was.") She popped up all over TV in such series as The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Wild Wild West, The Invaders, Run for Your Life, and It Takes a Thief. In the 70s, a la Mariana Hill, she changed her name also to Ahna Capri (she remarked, "Too many people pronounce 'Anna' with a flat 'a' and it comes out as ugly 'Aaana.

The Alamo Guide
for December 10th, 2009 If you’re at the S. Lamar theater this weekend, and you see a bunch of groggy ass, smelly, crazy-looking people wandering out of the theater around noon on Sunday, don’t worry. They won’t hurt you, they will have just sat through a full 24 hours plus of movies and they’ll be in desperate need of sleep. I’ll be one of them. It’ll be awesomely exhausting! Aside from that, if you got tickets already (if not, toooo bad), you can see the folks from Broken Lizard with their newest film The Slammin’ Salmon, but the most important thing that you should do is Go See Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans!!! Yes, the name is long, and the trailer makes it look kind of silly, but the hype over at Alamo Headquarters is ridiculous and the few people in...

The Anthology Film Archives in New York City is presenting the films of actor Rip Torn between March 5- 15. Screenings include titles rarely seen on the big screen including Beach Red, Sweet Bird of Youth, Payday, Coming Apart and Tropic of Cancer. The festival is most welcome, as it puts the spotlight on one of the most interesting actors working today. Our only gripe: the schedule doesn't include the Man From U.N.C.L.E. feature film One Spy Too Many in which Torn became one of the great villains of the medium with his portrayal of Alexander the Greater, a man who plans to conquer the world through breaking each ot The Ten Commandments in turn.
Here is the text of the press release from Anthology Film Archives:
