Urban legends are mostly just that, the stuff of legends. They can inspire some people to do horrifying things and create urban legends of their own. Very often, these stories get the movie or show treatment whether they hue close to anything factual or not. One of the most famous examples of this urban legend which has a serial killer acting out some of the most famously told tales. Often movies that use the “inspired by” tag don’t have much to do with their source material like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre being merely inspired by Ed Gein. What happens when a legend inspires a movie and then the real story comes out years later?...

The film world is still reeling from the recent loss of actor Rick Dalton, whose passing was first announced on May 19th, 2023 by The Video Archives Podcast's official Twitter account. Dalton, who passed away at his Honolulu, Hawaii home (shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday in April), is survived by his wife, one-time Italian starlet Francesca Cappucci.
The Video Archives Podcast, created and hosted by filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary, aired an episode on May 22nd that is apparently part one of a multi-episode run that revolves around the directors' memories of Dalton and his work.
While other friends and fans of the actor such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt have yet to make any official statements or remembrances, Tarantino has made sure that Dalton's name isn't fading into the ether like so many stars of yesteryear. The "Pulp Fiction" director made sure to include a tribute to...

One of the many films that were tangled up in the video nasty debacle of the early 80s, Don’t Go In The House tells the story of Donny, a somewhat disturbed man who lives under the thumb of his overbearing and sadistic (in the sense that she likes to burn his arms on the stove) mother. That is until his mother passes away and Donny’s already disturbed psyche finally cracks. Living only with the voices in his head, Donny seeks out female companionship, only his idea of bringing a girl home to meet mother entails tying them up in his steel-walled burning chamber!

One of the most memorable and terrifying cult horror films of the 1980s, Alone in the Dark is a white-knuckle shocker from director Jack Sholder (The Hidden) features gory make-up effects from Tom Brumberger (Don't Go In The House) and Tom Savini (Friday The 13th), delivering one seat-jumping scare after another, along with a thick slab of pitch-black humor!
At a secluded mental institution, Dr. Bain (Donald Pleasence) maintains order while electricity fuels the asylum's hi-tech security system that keeps the nearby neighborhoods safe from menaces like Frank Hawkes (Jack Palance) and "Preacher" (Martin Landau).

When little Harry sees his Dad in a Santa Claus outfit, groping his mother one Christmas Eve, life changes for the quiet little boy. Thirty odd years later, now all grown up and disgruntled by his dead end job in a depressing toy factory – he’s making a list, checking it twice and descending into a self-created Christmas nightmare where he is Father Christmas and his judgement is final! Dressed as St. Nick, Harry is going to show his bullying co-workers and all the other naughty people what the true spirit of the season is.
Lensed in 1980 and described by cult director John Waters as “greatest Christmas movie ever made,” Christmas Evil is one of only a [growing] handful of Yuletide-set shockers to ever grace movie screens.

Having a rotten mother will fuck you up.Twenty years after Mrs. Bates' incessant badgering and criticizing of a weak willed Norman turned him into a psychotic terror, Joseph Ellison's Don't Go in the House unleashed another unhinged mama's boy in Disco Donny. Arrow Video's budget label, Arrowdrome, brings this nasty little underseen gem to UK DVD uncut for the first time. A blatant riff on Alfred Hitchcock's adaptation of Robert Bloch's Psycho (itself inspired by the gruesome real-life story of Ed Gein), Don't Go in the House exceeds it's predecessor in terms of blood and gore by a country mile, while throwing in bits and pieces of other more contemporary films like Saturday Night Fever. Don't Go in the House is definitely one that every...

You'll see Elisabeth Shue in Alex Aja's Piranha 3D in August and now you'll be seeing her in the Psycho-esque thriller House at the End of the Street. House at the End of the Street will be in good company with all of the other horror flicks that cleverly use the word House in their titles (and yes, I really do love 'em all): House at the Edge of the Park, Don't go in the House, Last House on the Left, House, Hausu, Last House on Dead End Street (stop me when you've had enough), House II: The Second Story.... According to THR, House at the End of the Street centers on 'a teen girl (Jennifer Lawrence) who moves with her mom (Elisabeth Shue) to a new town and learns that their home is across the...
