Seventies revisited
The_Pc1 December 2005
A top level manager starts losing it when his own company expropriates his mother and puts her in a hospital. He slowly sinks deeper and deeper in his madness. This movie is slightly reminiscent of Falling Down. Modern society and its greed changing permanently the values of the past. The only movie of Willem Ruis. A typical 70s Flemish/Dutch movie, with it's theatrical overacting and slightly amateuristic filming style. DVD I found was a straight copy of a damaged film original. Enjoyable but could have gotten more out of it. Little piece of Dutch/Belgian film history. Things have luckily moved on since then, check out De zaak Alzheimer.

Boring, boring...

Very boring Flemish film. Looks like a school project. Willem Ruys is not an actor, badly cast. Incredibly stupid boys book story without any depth. Soundtrack a combination of dull music. Some nudity, of course. Fifty years earlier, better films were made.

It's an okay movie with a surprisingly good Ruis.

In Holland, Willem Ruis was a known show-host. His way of presentation and participation with the guests on his shows has been a welcome guideline to many new presenters. His sudden passing away in 1986 is still a very sad thing.

In this movie he shows himself in another way, a way in we've hardly seen him before but is sure no punishment to see. As Harry Melchior, a very powerful tycoon and investor in big projects, finds out that his elderly house in which his mother still lives, has to be broken down because of a project his company pays for, he snaps. He turns against his partner and doesn't avoid extreme violence.

The movie works because of Ruis' wit and credibility.
