Paniyamma - A movie based on M.K Indira's novel depicts the life of a child widow Pani. As per orthodox Brahmin custom, Phaniyamma was married off at the age of nine to 15 years old Nanjunda. Within two months, the boy dies and the young Pani is widowed at a tender age. The movie beautifully portrays her emotions and horror suffered by her in the name of orthodoxy. The movie highlights the plight of a widow and her struggle for survival. The film's cast comprised mainly from theater background including L. V. Sharadha, Prathibha Kasaravalli, Archana Rao, Vishwanath Rao, Kasaragod Chinna to name a few. Actor Ananth Nag made a guest appearance in the film.
